Totally brilliant! Thanks for this video. I've been trying to find the least-cost / best-looking solution to a 120 ft long area on the side of my house. Plain concrete would look trashy, but stamping supplies or a pro would be cost-prohibitive. This looks so much faster and easier than tamping poly mats one-by-one. Thank you again!

Great idea and wow you saved a ton of money. I have been stamping concrete for at least ten year. I have an edge rollet that works great. Id love to try this down one of my walkway projects. We just resealed a patio that was rolled by someone else and it looked really good. Think im going to make one of these out of one of my stamps. Thanks for the insight

    • @TheHowtoDad

think it would be nice if you mix colour with the concrete first I was thinking about doing similar but not with a roller and after poring the concrete just throwing on some different colours like red yellow and black then using a wood float mix it all togather kind of like marbling affect

  • @richdobbs6595
    @richdobbs6595 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Another idea for making the roller would be to start with a Sonotube. A 48"x10" one is about 16 dollars at Home Depot. A lot less work than all of the kerf cutting and glueing. You could cast the hubs out of concrete, with the axle in place, and a hole in the first hub. The hole would provide a means to add concrete for the second hub, as well as filling with sand afterwords. You might want to attach a board inside, along one side, to provide a place to attach the stamp. Heck, now that I think about it, you could just fill it with sand before casting the second hub which would be simpler than flipping it.

I 100% agree! next time I do this, I'd probably use a 10inch PVC pipe

Didn't I? I thought I did...I made this video 4 years ago, I know I recorded that part, but maybe it was too boring and math heavy...Had to use Pi and solve for "x". In any case, YES, you will need to make the barrel a specific size to accommodate the Pattern.

What would you say the consistency should be with like quickcreate

Mix normally. The key is waiting for the poured and floated concrete to set up to a point where it will support the roller. Basically you wait until you can stick your finger into the concrete up to the first knuckle on your finger

Good job man! Very inspirational stuff. Can i ask,im curious to know how long the silicone lasts,Did it work for a few jobs or does it fall apart after a couple of uses?

I used it for 2 jobs, seemed to hold up fine. silicone is really tough stuff! if I do it again, I'd use a 10” PVC drain pipe

Thank you for your efforts to show us how to spare hundreds of $ by making our own mold instead of buying them.
Please tell us what you use for making your mould not stick to the concrete?
What should I search for at the building supplies shop? What you think works best? I saw some guy using some coloured powder.
    Thanks.

I used mineral spirits, but cement dust apparently works well too. just dip a large brush into a bag of cement dust and flick the bush over the work area to cover the work area in the dust

Hey, just wanna ask what did you use as a release agent so that the cement won't stick to the roller?

We used Mineral spirits. I've been told cement powder works Aswell

Great idea with the silicone mold. Not so much with the roller though. I could def see you were struggling to keep it balanced and straight, especially on those long runs. I may attempt the DIY mold, but make a few and attach them to ply wood with handles so I can lay them in the more traditional stamping process. I would never be able to un-see the uneven line joints :D Thanks for the idea and inspiration for us DIYers.

You're right about the long runs. Took a lot of concentration. I'm pleased with how it turned out, but like you said, I try not to look to close. I would say with practice I would get better

Nice why don't create 2 mold and use them walking over them to stamp ? Maybe the quantity of silicone. I will try it to do for floor and wall. Thanks from France man
