I loved her voice, one of a kind, so pure and angelic. But recently, I heard a voice on an instagram post that I thought was Karen Carpenter. It wasn't. Her name is Tori Holub, please check her out- you will be amazed. It's as if Karen is channeling through her!
I adore Karen’s voice, a TRUE icon. Classy and talented with no flicks and tricks or studio enhancement/correction, just raw talent. Thank you for the music Karen. A beautiful smile and beautiful soul too.The complete package. We miss you. RIP 🙏🏻
@@SharonBee-tl8vn Thats his opinion and millions of others as well. You don't have to belt to the rafters and hit dog whistle notes to be a great singer. I also love the other singers you mentioned, but there is only one that I could listen to all day and her name is Karen Carpenter.
It's amazing how close this live performance is to the studio version. Just different enough to tell, but amazingly consistent with it. She was so perfect.
Yep. When I saw this was TV and Jordan talked about studio versions, I thought it might be "TV live"...but if it is, it's "TV live" using an alternate recording, because, as you say, it's oh so close but not the same...I think it's pure live other than possibly bits of the orchestration. Fil Henley (Wings of Pegasus) does a comparative analysis of Karen's studio v. live vocals...and finds the pure live one is actually fractionally more pitch-perfect! KC was a marvel.
Karen’s voice is just one of a kind and Richard’s gorgeous arrangements elevate the whole Carpenter experience. Thank you Jay for this great reaction of my favorite singer on the planet. She’s truly one of a kind. ❤❤❤
Don’t exactly know what happened between you and Amber but I cried watching this reaction. I was pregnant with my first child when Karen passed. I was devastated. Such a waste. Hope you two find the happiness you are looking for! You are both so sweet.
So your child it almost 42 then :-) Karen died 4th Feb 1983 and I was was just less than 1, born 17th Feb 1982. It's so sad what happened with her struggle. I do wonder what she would be doing now or what songs would have been made etc, what she would think of today's music etc etc.
For some reason that song (a favourite of mine, too) seems to have been many reactors' intro to Carpenters music. And a wonderful intro it would be, too.
One of my favorite songs by The Carpenters is "Now" from The Voice Of The Heart completed after her death in February. This was one of the last recordings before her untimely death in '83. The vocal quality given she was still so very ill is a testament to her remarkable talent. This song saved my life from Anorexia, After hearing that song made me realize that' I need to find a way to feel and be loved.
My fave is Now. It was when I first heard it. It was the last she sang, and ironically it's almost like a goodbye song, like These are the days of our lives by Queen was Freddie Mercury's last one and you could tell.
Karen Carpenter had a voice that was as smooth as silk yet could draw you in with the snap of her fingers to the world described in each of the Carpenters songs. What I enjoyed her sensivity and beauty as a human and a spiritual soul. She was one in a million.
Her voice was amazing so naturally gorgeous. The way she moves through the notes and takes you right with her. A sign of a great singer. Perfect tone . She's right up there with the greats.
Nice reaction, Jay. Karen is the best ever and never duplicated. Every song was like a big warm hug with her voice. She never found her perfect love, but she WAS loved by so many.
This is the first video I've brought myself to watch since the split. I don't know why I hesitated. Jay, you are a beautiful person and your reaction to Karen was genuine, eloquent and... most importantly... consistent. I have total faith in you to continue this channel. ❤
This is one of my favorite songs by The Carpenters. This was also known to be her favorite song. It was very reminiscent of her life. She was so special.
I heard a lot of The Carpenters as a kid. My mother loved The Carpenters and I did too. Still do. Here voice is so beautiful and pure. has a very distinct quality. It sounds so effortless and smooth.
I think he may have done that one. Interestingly Karen did not like that song...but hit it out of the park anyway. Many critics consider Solitaire her best ever lead vocal...
A true vocal icon of the 70's (one of, if not the best voices then and now) her voice and Richards arrangements and song writing abilities were just meant to be.
That's an interesting pairing: I Need To Be In Love was Karen's favourite of all the songs they recorded; Solitaire, conversely, she didn't even like...course she hit both out of the park anyway, and many critics consider her performance of Solitaire her best ever...
I agree to everything you said, voice, personality Richard being such a songwriter and pianist. I forgot this song until now, thanks Rob. RIP Ms Carpenter. you were taken too soon.
From the album A Kind of Hush, which if I remember right Richard himself called a subpar album. I beg to differ-it’s my favorite! I happened to find it for $1 at goodwill and I’ve listened countless times. My favorite is Boat to Sail, very underrated song.
This song will always remind me of my best friend, who I'm still friends with today! She made me some mixed tapes in college of some of our favorite songs and this was on it, she has always loved The Carpenters. We would just belt out the words. It just brings back a lot of good memories of that time.
Omgosh J .. totally agree. She felt what she sang. Always loved singing along with her & her songs. I still remember how terrible I felt the day I learned she was wearing her angel wings. Glad u r enjoying her catalog just as much. Havr a great wknd .. 😊❣️🙏🏼
Hey Jay, cool that you are continuing with Female Friday. Some suggestions: "All my Life" (Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville) "Banks of the Ohio" (Olivia Newton-John) "The Power of Love" (Jennifer Rush)
Always glad to hear Karen Carpenter's voice. They were my first concert in April '72. Listen to Hurting Each Other which had recently come out then. The drummer who sang, and she did both perfectly.
You nailed her voice when you said pure! She had such clarity to her beautiful voice, and of course Richard gave the best background to the total sound.
I think Richard, and their great friend, lyricist John Bettis since college, and Karen were all feeling this. None had yet found their mate. So John and Richard were also feeling the loneliness and pain that Karen was. Which makes it that much more of a masterpiece. I'm thankful that Richard and John ultimately found, and have what they were looking for with their wives and families. Precious Karen never got to experience the love she had wanted, nor her own children and someone to love her like she deserved. She horrifically ended up marrying a gold-digger who tried to take her for everything she had. Thankfully that did not fully happen. But he hurt her, along with many others, to the point she didn't make it. It's painful to hear Olivia Newton-John talk about that last week that Karen was alive. Olivia hears the news on the radio, on her way to meet Karen, that Karen has died. Olivia didn't talk about it much. But she did mention it in her latest book/autobiography. And she talked about it some in the last documentary about Karen - "Karen Carpenter: Starving For Perfection". It's a hard watch. But it's nice to see so many who loved her so much come forward to share some memories of their beautiful, delightful friend. Thank you for reacting to a song by Karen/the Carpenters. They never recorded a bad song in my opinion. I recommend "I JUST FALL IN LOVE AGAIN" by Carpenters, too. They recorded it before Anne Murray did. But A&M & The Powers That Be felt that it was too long for radio play. Another goof by their management team.
Thought maybe this would be "TV live" (synced to studio audio), but if it is, it's an alternate recording, because it's close but not identical to the familiar studio version. That rueful little smile near the end is heartwrenching, because KC is showing there that she has doubts about ever finding what she sings about here...and indeed she never did. I Need To Be In Love was, by the way, Karen's favourite of all the songs Carpenters recorded.
Listen to The Carpenters Christmas album. Her voice really shined on it. Unfortunately she died from an eating disorder. It was her and her brother. The Carpenters
Freaking love love love Carpenters. Karen died when I was just less than 1 year old but I was raised on them. There was something about Karen's voice that I have never really found in other singers. Her range is out of this world. No screeching, but hitting every note perfectly on pitch and giving it that Karen Carpenter touch.
