Back in the 70's when I was a kid, my dad referred to Karen Carpenter as having the most beautiful voice in the Universe. Ya know what, he was absolutely right!
You NAILED it. "There will never be another Karen Carpenter." 4 Grammys, platinum and gold albums. No auto-tune or gimmicks. Her female 'backup voice' was her harmony, dubbed into her songs by Richard. She very rarely needed more than one studio take for her recordings, (her nickname was 'one-take'). Described by many in the music industry as THE best female voice. John Lennon personally complemented her voice. Frank Sinatra supposedly said she was the only performer he would pay to hear. She married a guy for a few months in 1982 who was actually a broke scam artist and mistreated her. She never knew love. Karen was afflicted with anorexia for years and died in 1983 at 32.
im 57 i know what you mean i do the same this song is my # 1 song... it s been 20yrs that i been single and i m afraid i will never find a nover friend...
According to Richard Carpenter this lushly orchestrated piece was Karen’s favorite Carpenter song. It is beautiful, raw, and vulnerable, capturing the sadness of not having found love yet and wanting it to happen so badly. For me, whenever I listen to Karen's vocals in this song, she connects with the lyrics in a deeply emotional way as if she's lived every word.
Karen Carpenter is the best female vocalist ever! I was born in 1964 and to this day 2022, I still believe Karen Carpenter rocks it out of the park! Karen Carpenter makes tears come to mens eyes to this day!
Yes!!!No one can replace Karen Carpenter...she was the only singer who hit my heart so much...im not not born in her era...just 21 in age but she was the only one who can stop me in all my tracks and doings just to listen to her voice..Thanks my second llady Angela for playing this song of KC,its her fav.song...i love you.
You've said in past reactions that we're trying to make you emotional with Carpenter songs. There's no intent, Karen had the voice of an angel on earth it effects us all. A talent like hers only comes along once in a lifetime. I'm just glad it happened in my lifetime.
I have noticed in this reaction... nothing bad on your part Angela just a change. And Im not sure what to make of it. what I think it is ... there was a comment one time from someone who said they could only handle listening Karen in limited amounts only because of the emotional feelings they felt when they heard her voice.
When I first heard their version of (gulp) a Beatles song... Ticket to Ride... I had to RUN to the local record store to buy the 45 !!! That they Dared to cover a song by the Fab Four!! And did it Their way and then, so beautifully. I was hooked. Then... and ever since!
No gymnastics of runs. Just a pure, strong, rich beautiful tone. There has not and will never be a voice like the great Karen Carpenter. I love watching the younger generation dicsover the beauty and talent of old school music. Saw in your eyes you a Carpenter fan for life now. Welcome to the club darlin. Be blessed.
I'm 65 and recall in very early 70's my older sister telling us of this new group the Carpenters, waiting on each song. I remember hearing her Christmas song Merry Christmas Darling on my way home from College for the first time. I then remember coming home to my wife upset hearing Karen had died- we were so shocked.
Karen had a voice that could melt the hardest hearts. Seeing her in the latter part of her life when she was ill and in a loveless marriage is heart breaking to hear and watch. Rip Karen.
Her sweet voice was like hot cocoa and a cold rainy day. She felt like she was my friend. She was an angel who touched us and left too early. RIP Karen. You rock.
I was born the same year as Karen Carpenter and it's mind-blowing to realize she's been gone so long. Her voice is directly connected to my heart and my tear ducts.
Your honesty and authenticity is always so nice to hear. Karen was indeed the queen. And the look she gives at 4:09 tells it all. What a treasure she was. I heard another reviewer, Mel, say it well.....she was like an angel dropped down from heaven from God, loaned to us for a while before he took her home. And we're better off for having experienced her angelic person. Another great review of Karen, Angela.
My mother met Karen Carpenter late in her career. She battled Anorexia and at one time she fainted on stage. She really was a talented singer and her brother was one of the most talented songwriters and composers of all time (nobody recognizes the things that he added to music compositions like adding guitar solo's to love songs or doing overdubs on Karen Carpenter to make her voice sound like multiple singers). I don't know if you did a reaction video to 'All you get from love is a love song' but that is one of my favorites of hers. It is great that you are discovering karen Carpenter and I hope you continue to discover other artists like her.
Listening to Karen Carpenter sing makes a bad day better, and a good day amazing. She was truly special and we are all the benefactors of her talent.Thank you Karen...
Every time I hear her sing, I just start crying 😢, her voice is just so beautiful, and haunting! No singer, and I mean no singer ever evokes such emotions in me as she does!
I was 21 when she was 32. She melted my heart from the time I was 10 years old hearing Superstar. “I would've liked to have known you but I was just a kid.”
Karen...THE voice...it makes you feel like you're wrapped up warm & cozy in blankets. Her pitch is INSANELY good!! And you're so right...you can totally hear the sadness in her voice. She deserved so much better treatment from the press and from others. But, thank you for reacting to her :))
@@andrewkelley434 If you hear sadness in We've Only Just Begun or Top of the World or Sing or You're the One or I Won't Last a Day Without You or any number of other feel good songs then you certainly have a creative imagination - but it's definitely not in her voice...
Never forget this amazing voice. It should last for generations to come, Thank you for bringing her back to life. I remember the day she died. No one Else has been even close to her beautiful voice. I do not care who died at the same time.
She sings like an Angel! You can really feel the angst, longing and sadness in her voice! You must be psychic, I was thinking those very sentiments! She's in Heaven and Paradise as we all will be in one day!

I grew up listening & watching The Carpenters on TV. You are getting a view into our musical life. If Karen was alive today, I think she would be proud & happy that you are reacting to her songs. Thank you
I am thrilled to see young people discovering the phenomenal talents of Karen and Richard Carpenter. You say, “Her voice!” and I know exactly what you mean. No need to mess with PURE PERFECTION!
He was not wrong
Your Dad had incredible taste and insight. And like you said, he was right. Boy, WAS HE RIGHT!!!!!!!!😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Another staggering line: "I know I ask perfection of a quite imperfect world". Amen, Karen, Amen. Simply too imperfect. Sigh.
That look at the end. That look sums up her life in one short facial expression. Now, I am crying again.

Karen’s voice!!! 💗💗💗 Love anything she did!!! Thanks Angela!!

Popular and attractive people have a harder time trusting - because everyone comes at them. It's harder to discern pure motives.
Written by Richard Carpenter, John Bettis and Albert Hammond.
