- Michael Waltrip is one of the best personalities in NASCAR. He also is one of the most popular personalities in NASCAR as well. But what many tend to omit from his legacy in NASCAR is that his team was not only the subject of one major cheating scandal but two. This is about Michael Waltrip Racing. This is modern NASCAR’s most cheating team.

What to you is the legacy of Michael Waltrip Racing?
Interesting
2007 Speedweeks and 2013 Spingate
The team Clint Bowyer nearly won the championship with.
They’re known for spin gate
Spingate 2013
Finishing 2nd in the standings in 2012 with Clint Bowyer
Going from an Underfunded joke into a Competitive Toyota team(until Spingate happened)

Rule 1 of cheating is don't get caught. MWR cheated so poorly, they got caught immediately. That is an accomplishment when it comes to cheating, being caught in the act.
I posit that the "cheating" was so poorly done, plus the animosity toward Toyota's introduction, that it has to be sabotage.
Karma
Honestly I feel that there is some back door NASCAR politics. Plenty of good ol boys cheat and help their team Ted every race. But NASCAR always seems to turn a blind eye to specific teams and burn others for everything.
You are completely off just like everybody else. It was not a orchestrated deal. Ty Norris was talking to one driver trying to get him to pit while a whole different thing was going on with bowyer it was 2 separate incidents and for two different reasons. It was not what the media lied and said. Every team in nascar was doing it. Ty Norris said a Hendricks car kept faking mechanical problems on the track to manipulate the race. Bowyer and his spotter and ty and the driver he told to pit it was not related at all. It was a crucial point in the race and so it happened at the same time along with 3 other teams faked stuff simultaneously as the mwr incident. It was every team in nascar doing it. But because they ran two radio loops together it made it appear they were on the same radio doing it. The reality ty Norris had no clue what bowyers spotter was telling him to do. Ty did tell the one to pit to do something with a lap. But they got thrown to the wolves when literally 4 teams did the same thing as them during this race but the media or someone covered it up.
Nah Rule 1 of cheating now is to just do it with NASCAR's favortism. Its blanant. Just look at Chase Elliott the past few weeks.

Didn't Joe Gibbs or somebody else have a Flexible rear part right before the rear spoiler at Talladega the first year they had the car spoiler reduced to 50% of the year before in 2010's, the NASCAR people had to fix this and make the spoiler bigger for the superspeedways and then bigger due to Talladega.
If Talladega were removed from all racing on at least the big oval and forced to race the road course, there would be no loss for me as all almost all racing wants to have the big wreak at Talladega superspeedway. Then remove the non road track part and move grandstands around to fit the new designed track.
@@caseysmith544 yea hass did that
@@cadenchristiansen3553 Okay I was not really watching that year at Superspeedways due to the low downforce being removed for the year prior and that year the incident happened. I think I'm more irritated about Kaufman creating the god awful Charter system than anything else
@Jacob Hendrickse creates no incentive for new teams to arrive at the sport, makes established teams secure of their spots and allows awful teams to have guaranteed spots if they have one charter (RWR as a example).
The Charter system is just a way Kauffman found to get his money from MWR back after helping the team's demise.
Yep just ask Ty Dillon
NASCAR can get rid of the charter system any time they want to, but they won't for some reason.
@@Gucesarl charters offer guaranteed money to its holders, offering an incentive to new owners like Spire, 23XI, and Trackhouse
To this day, I find it incredibly ironic that Reutimann caused the caution that would begin the chain of events that led to Gordon ruining Bowyer’s chance at a title at Phoenix
Oh don't start that with me! And this guy didn't even mention the related controversy where Joey Logano robbed Gordon of a Chase spot due to Penske and Front Row collaborating
Can you give a timeline? I've never heard of that
Mmmmmmm. Boyer team cheated caused him title I think
@@ToumapassarZEZOCA the 2012 saga: Martinsville 2012 Spring, 6 laps remaining. Jeff Gordon is leading and Jimmie Johnson is second. David Reutimann, driving the 10 for Tommy Baldwin Racing, is having an engine go up in smoke. The problem is, if Reutimann goes behind the wall, a car will pass them and they will wind up being 36th in owner points for the next race. After bypassing the pits with an easy route in once or twice, the car gives out and stalls headed into turn 1. Caution flies. After Pit Stops, Gordon, Johnson, and Bowyer are the top 3. On the restart, Bowyer kamikazes, wrecking Gordon, Johnson, and himself, enabling Ryan Newman to slip by and win on the ensuing restart. Now, this win would have been a milestone for HMS, I think #200. Hendrick later stated he flew out executives to this race in case this momentous occasion would have happened. Gordon is livid, and puts it in the memory bank. After a few more brushes on track throughout the year, it all culminates at November Phoenix. Gordon, after Bowyer races him hard and cuts a tire down, has had enough. Under green, Gordon sandbags until the 15 comes around, making a right and wrecking himself, Bowyer, Logano, and Almirola. At the time before the incident, Bowyer was about 18-25 points back from Keselowski. After the race, Bowyer is down (I believe) 48 points. Ultimately, Brad wins the championship as Bowyer placed second, and Johnson blows a transmission, making Brad K the 2012 champion. So, indirectly, Reutimann sets off a chain event where Jeff Gordon removes Bowyer from championship contention. As a Gordon fan, I want to say Jeff did it because he was mad at Clint, not because he was trying to enable a 2 car showdown between Brad and Johnson, as one theory states. As to whether I think what Gordon did was right or wrong, I don’t know. As for a suspension? Well, Kenseth got suspended 3 races in 2015 for the same incident, when only Logano paid for it. So, regardless of my personal opinion, NASCAR was inconsistent in their rulings.
@@emmettm7482 wow. Crazy stuff. Sounds to me like Gordon did it on purpose. He loves Hendrick motorsports. I think he's taking over when Rick steps down
Everyone forgets that Clint Bowyer also lost all his points at the 2015 chase opener in chicagoland, for cheating
Is that true? How?
Actually no, it was 25 points however he finished 19th, and that gave 25 points, it was a coincidence

I honestly love your videos the one thing that bothers me especially working in the performance industry is everyone saying jet fuel like it some crazy explosive chemical jet fuel is diesel or kerosene one of the hardest fuels to even ignite what they most likely used was some form of oxygenator in a gelatin form as a stabilizing agent to when it gets hot it releases extra oxygen as a nitrous does
Speaking of conspiracy theories, you should do a video focusing exclusively on NASCAR-related conspiracy theories. That could get interesting, very quickly.
Are we supposed to believe Toyota had no knowledge of what Waltrip was doing? Really?
For God's sake, he put jet fuel in his manifold. NASCAR caught him.
No one wanted Toyota to come into NASCAR to begin with. Michael Waltrip took on a very difficult task. Once under a microscope, a very dark cloud, he gave everything mentally and financially. I give him credit. He tried to do something to make a difference in the sport. Every one cheats from small tracks to big tracks. But look at the Toyota teams now, and look at Truex. He continues to help our sport. Michael became a huge steppingstone for the sport, Toyota, and drivers. I hope he is well and is enjoying life.

ok...
Smokey Yunick pretty much summed it up. The spirit of racing, in all forms. Is reading between the lines and slipping in some cheating. If they got to rewrite the rules because you had a creative interpretation or you just were so goddamn smart that the techs couldn't figure out your performance gain then that is an innovation.
Like it or hate it all teams from grass roots dirt track, to formula 1, motogp and wrc rally. Plus everything in between including Nascar which has a vibrant history of it. All racing does the amount of sheer competition for any edge leads to this. Gray areas and creative interpretation is all it will ever be for the engineers and race strategists.
The legacy: everyone’s hate of Toyota will forever have justification
At least Mikey WAS TRYIN! If you ain't cheatin, YOU AIN'T TRYIN! :P
