Loved the story of how Harold Ramis and Bill Murray had a falling out in the set of Groundhog Day and stopped all communication for 20 years. but then Bill found out Harold was dying and in 2014 went to Ramis' hometown. Since Bill didn't know where he lived, he went to the police station and asked for his address. He arrived at Ramis' house with a police escort and a box of doughnuts. They then made their peace and said their goodbyes.

You Know I Thought the Same Thing When I Seen this Movie last year in November. Seeing Phoebe Getting Help from her Grandfather Egon in Fighting Gozer was Identical to the Gohan/Goku vs Cell Kamehameha Battle. Though Bottom Line, Director Jason Reitman did not Disappoint with Ghostbusters Afterlife. After a Lackluster Reboot from 2016 from Paul Feig. We Finally got a GB Sequel Film that gave us Everything we Wanted Instead of Things we didn't want.

This is how you do it correctly!! It had all the nostalgia “feels” as well as introduced new characters that were endearing.
Phoebe is just precious and you can tell she is Egon’s granddaughter off the bat. She even talks the way he does. Love it!

Did you catch the 'Easter Egg' at 8:50? The theatre's marquee says "CANNIBAL GIRLS', which was a 1973 movie directed by Ivan Reitman, starring Eugene Levy. It's the same movie that was playing at a cinema in GHOSTBUSTERS II, when a woman came out of the cinema, and her fur coat came to life and went off down the street. I think I was the only one in the I-MAX theatre where I saw this on its opening evening to spot that call-back.

The first movie will always be the best one, in my opinion.
That´s when we were introduced to these characters and fell in love with them.
But I gotta say, Afterlife was better than I anticipated.
I thought I was going to dislike the idea of "children Ghostbusters", but in the end it was a story about Egon´s family and how they reconnected with him after his death.
My only complaint is that they played a little bit too safe when they decided to rehash the Gozer plot line. It was a missed oportunity to do something new.
But other than that, it was great. I cried like a baby when Egon helped her steady the stream.
And seeing all four of them again was a dream come true, even with Egon as a ghost.
It felt like Murray, Dan and Ernie´s way of saying to their friend Harold how much they miss him, as do we all.
For all intents and purposes, for me this is Ghostbusters 3.

    • @RM2011ish
      @RM2011ish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Even though they did rehash GB1 in the third act, I DID like how Afterlife expanded the lore on Gozer and Shandor. It was cool to see one of his operations outside of New York since he had a powerful cult.

That's not that controversial of an opinion. I can totally see why you like this film more than the original. But, it raises an interesting question: would you have liked this film as much if you had never seen the first 2?
I actually also connected to Phoebe and the others more than the original Ghostbusters. Phoebe was also my favorite new character.
I really want to see more sequels with Phoebe, Trevor, Podcast, and Lucky continuing to be Ghostbusters.
PS, I honestly thought you'd find the mid-credits scene more satisfying. You kept saying in your previous commentaries how there were no consequences to Venkman's creepiness. That scene is a very karmic consequence to his creepiness.

  • @zombifiedpariah7392

I almost NEVER cry during movies but that ending really got me tearing up. Felt like such a heartfelt goodbye to Harold. Also I feel like these "passing of the torch" films can be tricky because you have to really make the young new cast likeable but I think the kids are perfect and I actually can't wait to see more of them. :)

Great reaction. I can see why ppl today would like this better than the original. I love this movie, i also love the first. I wanted to be Ray growing up, the hyped up excitement is how i would get.. The original had a new world opening “feel” when u watched it in the 80s. This one is amazing, the nostalgic feel, the old footage, the final shot w/the 4 of them shooting together was a tear-jerker. Waited over 20 yrs for a new one and this delivered. I respectfully differ with your opinion that Afterlife is superior to the original film, but I think that’s to be expected considering that I’m a lot older than you. I was a Ghostbusters fanatic as a kid in the 80s, and I love Afterlife because it feels like a love letter to fans like me.
Watching these kids made me feel like a kid myself again because they were doing what my friends and I were pretending to do while playing in the backyard - helping the Ghostbusters save the world.
And seeing Egon again meant so much because he was my favorite as a kid. I started wearing glasses at five years old so it meant a lot that one of my heroes wore them too.

This film was definitely a love letter to the fans of the first two films; rather enjoyed the way the film payed respect to Harold Ramis by having a CGI standee there, but not ruining it by having him talk. Also, you cut away from Ernie Hudson saying that he missed Egon; the way he delivers the line it seemed more that he was saying it to Harold. All in all, for me this was a worthy sequel and a rather good passing of the torch to a younger generation.

now i don't know if you are aware.... but Dan Ackroyd said in an interview in the behind the scenes stuff of the video game from 2008 said that he was convinced that the 2008 video game WAS the 3rd movie for him.... and i would highly recommend that watch the "game movie" of it since its harolds last performance as Egon before he passed.
also one item of note that i don't know if anyone ELSE noticed...28:08 looks ALOT like a boson dart to me... and if i am right.... that makes the events of the game POSSIBLY canon... as apparently in the credits Winston now has his PHD, as well as gozer just up right killing ivo shador....

They were supposed to have a theater release, but were shifted to Netflix for obvious reasons. The first one is made by the creators of "Into the Spider-Verse." The movies are "The Mitchell's vs The Machines," "Wish Dragon," and "Vivo." The first movie was all sorts of fine things but it was still a product of the early 1980s, much as the new film is a product of the late 2010s. The first movie was a comedy adventure flick. I really liked this sequel. It just lacked the comedy of the first 2. But you could never beat the cast of the first 2. They did as good as they could have for a sequel that many years apart.

After the woke dumpster fire I thought this would be more of the same but with teens. But found myself enjoying the characters, especially Phoebe. And the wrap up.l.just…wow. I hope for a sequel….if it’s this creative and funny. Next time include more GB music. Great reaction, man.

Better than the first film? Absolutely not; it is a classic and cannot be matched. The comedy/wit, the originality, the cast... it was all perfect.
However, this movie is definitely the best possible Ghostbusters movie we could have gotten modern day. A film with just the original cast would seem forced and outdated, a movie with an all new cast without any significant ties to the original would seem disingenuous and hollow (ahem, 2016). This was a perfect mix of both of those ideas that, while not revolutionary and while definitely heavy handed with fan-service, works really well with what it is meant to do: pay respect to the franchise while gracefully handing it over to the next generation.
