Today we're fishing the Florida Keys on my Jon Boat and trying to catch mangrove snapper. We are in Key Largo, which is part of the upper keys
Mangrove fishing is a ton of fun and I haven't done much of it so this fishing trip is a learning curve for me. It's also the first time I'm actually taking my Jon Boat fishing in the Florida Keys back country

Jon Boat fishing is a lot of fun because you can get into the very shallow flats on the Florida Keys. You can also get deep into the mangroves without hurting your boat since it's made of aluminum!

Last two videos are the best ones you have put out in a while. I’m not handy but loved seeing you fix the outboard and install the trolling motor. Taking the boat out and doing some simple fishing was even better. Great content!

Honestly, I am surprised it took you so long to actually try and use your Jon boat for real. The 8 horse Evinrude will be a great motor for that and if you don’t do something dumb will probably last your lifetime. You probably just slipped the cover/handle on the switch of the trolling motor. That whole setup is like all the boats I used fishing bass up in Michigan. Don’t give up. Figure out how to be successful on that. My buddy Adam and I used to catch more big bass in our 12’ aluminum boat with a 5.5hp evinrude than the guys in their Nitro bass boats on my lake during bass tournaments. Explore, research, experiment. Not a bad first day trying. Try snorkeling the mangroves as well to see where the fish are hanging. Will help you find the really good fishing spots. We used to snorkel weed beds and docks and learned a ton. I should come down with my DJI drone and film you (im part 107 pilot and a private pilot single engine land). Would be fun!
Get yourself a trolling motor with a remote and maybe GPS with spot lock. You deserve it, man! And definitely a new kill switch lanyard! Great video!

Just want to give you some old man’s advice ha ha. You have two paddles, not oars. Buy yourself some decent oars and oarlocks so if you get stranded you can effectively propel the boat. Paddling back after the trolling motor dies would be a challenge for sure. The oars and oarlocks make it much easier!! Not criticizing you as I really enjoy your channel!!!

A word of advice from a jon boat junkie. Replace that grey fuel line. I know it gets recommended, but it's garbageand will fall apart and clog your carb.

Wow great job on the skinny water, heiko. On that evinrude I would try to take that starter recoil assembly apart and see if you can get some lube in there. That squeal on startup will shut right up. 👍🏻

This is awesome content bro. Reminds me of when I was kid in palm beach, my buddy and I had a 2 person canoe with a trolling motor. Possibilities were endless, had a dream with some idea of what to do, and man it was a ball. Love the inshore content!

Leaving the gas motor down and straight, it works like a rudder and a keel to keep the stern from drifting around on you. Helps with steering.

Hi there captain.. Jon boat looking real good.. I have the same set up on my boat.. Thinking about changing it around to look at other people Modify their tiny boat.. Give you Some fishing advice.. It's like bass fishing you have to be a distance away from your Is striped zone.. So the fish can't see.. Bass fishing is at least about 10 to 25 yd Of casting to your strike.. And when you see predatory of fish you know other fish's Taco Bell round shocks sting rays Barracudas.. Is Eva turtles. It's not a good spot just a little tip for you

What’s your top speed on your John Boat with that 8 hp Evinrude? I boat myself a motor like your about a year ago and I haven’t had a chance to try it out on my John boat.

Yo looked ike you got on plane nicely!! Many say to leave the outboard down when possible if you are up front on the trolling motor. The outboard will act as a rudder and help keep the rear end from swinging around and being unpredictable
A trick I use is measure your foot. If it's 10 ,12 or 13" you always have a guide with you

Drift Chain for shallow water: Depending on size of jon boat use a length of chain to drag bottom to slow the speed of drift. Coil in back and let different amount out to regulate speed of drift
Man I could tell you so many good ways to fish back there but I'm just an old guy with old skills. I'm sure there's plenty of guys who know the same as me and probably alot more. Especially for the large mangos .I see alot of killer spots back there. Best of luck, great job on the Yeehaw!!!
