If you reload for precision, stainless steel mags will generally let you load to an OAL of 2.3 inches. That's pretty much the only magazines that I use now.
just a heads up to every one the dots on the bottom of the mag is for marking them. just fill in the dops and u get a uniform look and place to look for marking. i use paint pens. pick a color than matches or compliments your rifle. game changer. great video
One thing that shocked me-- while figuring out my "minute man" loadout (using a food scale), I discovered that aluminum mags ("OK") weigh slightly less than P-mags-- That said, I use both because they work
I use PMAGs. One benefit of polymer mags is that damage is usually very visible. Cracks in polymer mags are usually very obvious. Damage to polymer feed lips is almost always very clear (usually cracks or chipping), whereas damage to metal feed lips might not be obvious at all just by visual examination alone. Brownells sells a tool that can fix bent metal feed lips, but it's not something I'd use to fix metal feed lips more than once. For what it's worth, I've never had a PMAG's feed lips deform due to extreme heat. I'm sure it can happen, I just haven't had it happen so far. Most metal mags can (and should) be upgraded with Magpul followers. It's a shame Okay Industries stopped making their Surefeed metal mags!
Good stuff as always. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these. I know it’s not easy. Hope you’re doing well and I’ll be here for the next one!
Best overall my opinion okay industries with magpul fillowers, can always buy cheap military surplus akd retro fit with magpul followers. I have retrofitted my dad’s aluminum mags from army service with magpul followes and they’re better than modern day aluminum mags. 30-40 years old. Lancer mags second steel feed lips nut lightweight polymer with grip texture.
Keep up the content My favorite magpul gen 2 or 3 And duramag for metal / aluminum I had a polomor mag melt in hot humidity alabama weather not literally melt but swell up like hell rendering the mag useless
The best mag is the one you get the best deal on. That said, I prefer metal (duramag specially) because the are easier to index back into the pouch and, in some cases, fit more of them in the pouch
I really love pmag gen3s, while your point of plastic being susceptible to breakage over metal lips, Id prefer that because metal feed lips may warp to the point where its not noticeable but capable of inducing malfunctions. If the windowed (which some may argue is slightly weaker than nonwindowed) is good enough for the USMCs stringent testing (and they didnt mess around with testing these), then its good enough for me. Milspec isnt always the best but they didnt cut corners on testing the pmags
Great insight. My personal preference is polymer and MAGPUL specifically. Even at my department, we use polymer mags although we have a ton of old GI and steel mags. What camera and mic setup do you use?
Those are great magazines that hold up well. I just didn’t have any with me for this video. They have the same positives and negatives as most mags. Just slightly smaller margins.
Larping in the Dakotas. Extreme temps has been a concern for me. My informal tests of leaving mags loads for several nights at -30. Honestly I haven’t had any failures. Magpul that I have left loaded for 4 years the feed lips fatigue out.
Not a fan of magpul stuff especially there magazines,( there followers are freaking awsome) I have seen them stick in the well in Iraq & Afghanistan after a bit of grit gave them a try after I got home for my personal use, just traded 2 dozen for 2 dozen aluminum mags from BMC. UTG polymer are really good though, was just sent some MFT magazines have not had time to run them yet.
My first AR was a Bushy back during the AWB. It had a pinned stock and the other Clinton approved BS. The worst thing was finding magazines. It seemed like the only place to find them was in a crusty box in pawn shops and some gun stores. All junky milsurp and they wanted 40-70 bucks each! Those were the bad old days. My current favorites, aside from PMags, are the Duramags and the .Mil H&K steel mags.
Being prior Airforce, I'd rather wait for USMC approval. If USMC says it's good, it's good enough for me. If Army says it's good, I'll wait for USMC's approval. Army have made many silly mistakes over time, and it takes them awhile to make it right. But USMC need their stuff to work RIGHT NOW. Not 3-6 weeks/months later. There's a reason for Airforce and Army's break up... 😤 irreconcilable differences would be putting it lightly.
solid content and production value as always. appreciate your time and energy put into these videos
That means a lot. Takes a few days of editing for each video haha. Glad some people enjoy the “extra” stuff I add to them
Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Salute
Thanks!

I don’t reload (yet), but that’s something I want to get into
@@Lazybump I have some Israeli 30 rd steelies but replaced the followers with magpuls. Easier to remove base plate to clean the mag.

Both are great options! Can’t go wrong with a decision there

Good take right here
Great content Man U really inspire me artistically with the quality of these videos makes me wanna pick up a camera !
Good stuff as always. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these. I know it’s not easy. Hope you’re doing well and I’ll be here for the next one!
Nice Vid! Also, you need to start sharing links to where you get your shirts man 😂
lol should I just make a clothing video?
Absolutely!

I hear great things about Okay Industries
too bad theyre discontinued
I use 20 rounder ok industries mags for my MK12 and my M16A1
Okay industries for sure but no longer available. If not D&H, Brownells, or Duramag for sure for metal mags
+1 the Okay surefeeds are tits. Glad I got my hands a bunch before they closed up shop
Keep up the content
My favorite magpul gen 2 or 3
And duramag for metal / aluminum
I had a polomor mag melt in hot humidity alabama weather not literally melt but swell up like hell rendering the mag useless
Really enjoyed, good info, thanks
easily my new favorite channel. can you do a video on pants? or maybe a vid about sites you use to purchase things like accessories and such?
I actually might do a whole clothing video because that’s been asked for a lot!
Appreciate the knowledge dump!
Trying to make all the info accessible to the masses
The best mag is the one you get the best deal on.
That said, I prefer metal (duramag specially) because the are easier to index back into the pouch and, in some cases, fit more of them in the pouch
Daniel defense mags are dope
Never used one. Maybe I’ll invest in a few!
Only AR mag issue I ever had was a gen2 p mag that would over insert when the gun got too hot. It was not easy to clear.
I buy both when they’re on sale 10 for 89$. PSA and the mag shack have this deal pretty often.
The usmc uses gen 3 pmags. That’s good enough of an endorsement for me!
How do you feel about Lancer polymer magazines?
I hear great things about them and have only shot them once. I don’t have personal experience with them long term
I prefer the Magpul magazines, specifically the gen 2. They fit in my fit best and for my purposes, they’re wholly reliable.
The main problem with the Gen 2 PMAGs is that they can be over inserted. Gen 3 corrected that problem as well as fitting in HK 416 mag wells

Both are very practical!
Great insight. My personal preference is polymer and MAGPUL specifically. Even at my department, we use polymer mags although we have a ton of old GI and steel mags. What camera and mic setup do you use?
I use a GH5 with Comica mics
The answer is both are good. I prefer pmags just because I like their fde m3 mags because they look good with the painted rifles I have.
They do look good! Gives it a little more pop!
If it sends, keep. If it doesn't send, discard. 😎
Amen!
Metal better for cold. I’ve cracked pmags in the cold. Pmag are nice n cheap though. For most the pmag will work
What is the opinion on lancer magazines? Best of both world? What’s the down side? How do they hold up?
Those are great magazines that hold up well. I just didn’t have any with me for this video. They have the same positives and negatives as most mags. Just slightly smaller margins.
Larping in the Dakotas. Extreme temps has been a concern for me. My informal tests of leaving mags loads for several nights at -30. Honestly I haven’t had any failures. Magpul that I have left loaded for 4 years the feed lips fatigue out.
If I could find metal mag for as cheap as I can get pmags I would consider them.
True!
0:10 C.C, let me hold some of those mags…I’m not picky 🙂
😂😂 they aren’t very expensive. Buy one or two a month
yes, I’ve began stacking but I never disregard charity 😂
I used both, military and law enforcement with no problems.
Good stuff!
I prefer metal but will use polymer
Get plenty of both.
HK stainless is my vote. Just pick one up. You’ll know.
Will do!
Those mags used in Vietnam were meant to be disposable not re used that's why they failed.
True, but they shouldn’t fail while being used.

Only Okay mags. If you know you know
Solid choice!
Magpul enough said
Port City Armory made the best AR magazine

I too have a few Duramags. But mostly Pmags
Metal.
Wait. What did you say about magazines?
🤷🏾♂️
Metal mags are smaller and stronger

Topic has already been researched. Polymer mags, Magul has reigned supreme.
All personal preference!
Wrong, metal.
