I'm still on the hunt in the UK for a good saw ... you'd think there'd be dozens of them rolling around ready to land in my greedy hands... alas this isn't the case :o( Darn you Cody for re-running this series ... I'm still desperate for my first saw and you have the pleasure of many... lucky so and so... lol
Oh heck, I live in Bozeman, so making it over to Missoula isn't too difficult. I just want to bing the old two man cross cut saw back to full working order.
Joseph Lathrop Apart from the history bit, that's what I said. The width of the cut as defined by the distance between the tips of the left and right cutting teeth which is known as the "set" . The size of cut timber is also affected by the Finish, 2x4 planed started out as 2x4, 2x4 rough is closer to the true size and is nearly always actually 48x100mm.
Joseph Lathrop Can't say I follow, but yes modern materials can be more regular and yes I agree that due to changes in materials some things are thinner. I was referring to the difference in sawn and planed timber. My own house has various different examples of the changes in materials and techniques.
Watching this video and realizing the kid is now a firefighter is amazing.
I really like that you're putting up your "classics" on this channel. Thanks for that. I really like all the old "how to" videos. Cheers!
Boy so cute 😚
I've had a saw on my bench for a couple weeks now waiting its turn to get cleaned up. Thanks for posting
This is a very instructive video I wanted to find a video to restore my extremely old saw
Just got to crosscut saws in this series has been wonderful
Your blade guard is upside down on your saw handle.
Lee Gibbs, old crosscut sawyer
Thank you for telling us about the class at ninemile!
This is great! It is a good thing I saw this before I put a flap disk on my angle grinder to do the job!
Howard Hughes also pioneered the flush rivet technology that is common on airplanes today.
Are you just uploading all your old videos again?
Seems like all your videos are repeats of videos you made a while back?
I routinely buy tools at estate sales ... Recently found a round stone in a toolbox I picked up ... Now I know what it's purpose is!

It may just be that this video was recorded earlier in the year, but; What happened to that white handled knife you had made for you?
I'm looking to replace a handle on one of these old saws please guide me in the right direction it's a old two man
добрый день ! где можно купить такую пилу?
Is the kerf not the distance between the left and right cutting points that defines the width of the cut?

Joseph Lathrop Wow that is amazing. My own house is a 1900 stone building, the render is very important. I'm so glad your house survived.
what would be cool is if you got a electro plating system and redid that logo. you might be able to use the Internet and find the design.
If you want to remove rust without using a tool, why not use naval jelly? I use it on my old carpentry saws and it works great!
Ratdog 305 man, the jelly I dig outta my naval doesn't seem to do the job, and it stinks like hell!
turn it into a machete
