    Wow! Well explained. Thanks for sharing it with us. I really appreciate it. I learnt three steps
    1. Visual inspection; check for burnt cable etc
    2. Continuity test; using the ohm meter or digital multimeter
    3. IR test; using the meggar or Insulation Resistance tester

      @@ucheinnocent2680 The motor spec/model plate has that info. If it doesn't, you have to do resistance testing to find the coils, and then either wire them series or parallel. Honestly if you don't know how to tell the difference, you shouldn't be working with electricity unless you learn what you need to before ever touching it.

    Thank you for the video. basically to check insulation value you dont need to disconnect the star configuration (unless you encounter a bad reading and then start checking separately) if CB is off you can check the insulation test as it is.

If you make insulation test with the chassis, you can make from every terminal in cb with the chassis. And if problem found then you can start disconnecting to isolate the problem. Single phase motors have two sets of windings and the charge stored up in a capacitor will simulates a third winding. I reckon that the tests should be similar. OL between any winding( U1,V1 etc) and earth is it a fail?

    • @maintenanceengineeringinsider
      @maintenanceengineeringinsider  ปีที่แล้ว

      Open loop (OL) during a continuity test, between the windings of an inductor motor is good. Because it means that there is no contact between the windings.
      However, It is very important to test each winding with the chasis of the motor and make sure it is reading OL.
      OL could be good or bad, depending on what you are testing for.

      This is enough to search out and indicate weakness in the insulation.
      You do have a reason too. The Insulation resistance tester allows user to inject either 500VDC or 1000VDC. Whichever way, the reading must remain between 1 Megaohm and 2 megaohms. Any reading under 1 Mega ohm is a fail
