One of the greatest songs of all time. Words, music, lyrics. Never get tired of this song. Still hum it every so often just as if I were hearing it on the radio back in the fall of 1987.
This song has a very special place in my heart. My Brother Gary white. Passed away from cancer December 30th 2007. We used to play this song together. He was a incredible guitar player. I will always be grateful for this song. God bless. John S Turlington.
One, two, three, four - count the children, don't make me listen... I wish I could find that song again, been close to 40 years since I tapped off Brent & Charlie's mixing board for their last night together as Brent closed with, "We WERE the Charlie Peacock Band" I gotta find that cassette since Ray B never followed through with a Stereo copy. ...was my first and last time at the Shire Road Pub.
I discovered Brent Bourgeois when he released Blessed be the Name (of the Lord) from Come Join the Living World. I had a friend who remembered seeing this in the 80s and told me of this appearance. Great music.
So under appreciated. Their downfall was "sounding too much like the Beatles". Like it's a bad time to sound like the greatest band in the history of rock 'n' roll. xoxo
It was. I had to learn it the afternoon I heard it. You're in good co. my friend. I played it a week later for a group of Dr.s at a Valley Children's Hospital private. I was just a undergraduate audiologist and one of those guys came up and said, "Out of all of this, where did you get that? It's incredible." -- I figured, that was good enough. It is "that" kind of insightful tune we could use some more of...you know.
Well, Tell Mr. Tagg that Chromey says HI.. LOVED Bourgeois Tagg.. Dying to Be Free, Electric Train.. amazing album. (and now, thanks to the wonders of Amazon, I have it on vinyl and CD.. wore the cassette out a hundred years ago.)
I remember when it aired, too! I was like: wait! That’s Brent from Skyline HS. We were both in the performing arts “cluster”-pre magnet school term. He was a keyboards guy. Didn’t know he sang.
YOYO was, and still is a brilliant album and worth picking up if you can find it. The whole album is made up of great tunes and not just this one. First time I've seen the Band live. Fantastic. Thanks for posting this.
I'm happy to say the song is on iTunes now. I just bought it. Search on the song's name, and you'll see it in two different 80's compilation albums. Enjoy! Oh... and there are a couple of versions done by others on iTunes too. :)
This is an obscure but really nice song from the MTV 80's. They do a spot on job live, just like the recording. Very nice. PS This song is not available anywhere, even on ITunes...
Wow, I guess I missed this back then, but it's awesome to see it now! Thanks for putting this on here! And yeah, that's too bad about Johnny saying the album name wrong, but at least he pronounced their names correctly! ;)
I bought this album when it came out (based on the radio play of this song, not that my man Todd Rundgren produced it). When I went looking for video on it some time back, I was impressed with the gem of him and his son performing this in duet.
Still the best Sacramento band ever. I wish y'all could see footage of their early very progressive shows at the Pub and other places. Easily their most mainstream pop song.
YES! One of the best tunes of the 80's and he nailed the vocals live. I kept looking to see if it was lip synced, but he even had a couple of spots where he came in just a tad off. What happened to great live singers that aren't cookie cutter american idol'ish garbage?
loved this back in the day! Brent's voice was so lush. I loved his Christian CD, Come Join The Living World, some incredible songs to search on youtube from it: the big hits "One" and, Little More Like Jesus, plus, Perfect Harmony (rocked to that one in concert at this lil place where Jars of Clay were at with him in the mid 90's), Come Home To Me, and God Is Not Dead. I didn't know Tagg became an English teacher, and what's funny is the guy who sang & wrote Magnet & Steel from the 70's, Walter Egan, is also a teacher still! His video is cool for that one. Stevie & Lindsay Buckingham are in it, and she does backgrounds.
Yeah I remember when Come Join The Living World came out, I was listening to CCM a lot back in those years, and bought that album because of Little More Like Jesus (which is still 1 my favourite all-time keyboard-heavy songs of all time). I found this video by way of watching "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" last night on HBO believe it or not (Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" was co-written by Danny Kortchmar, who worked with Brent Bourgeois, and Wiki'ng Brent lead me to his song, which I haven't heard in FOREVER). Thank you +planetxmagazine for the trip down the lane :)
can someone send me a new keyboard ad laptop??? need to take my show up where it left off here on the net!!! HVE TO B/C ITS KILLIN ME TO GET BACK INTO MUSIC!!!!
@@irmarocha7809 I have a compilation CD of Sacramento songs (Bourgeois Tagg, Steel Breeze, Tesla, Club Nouveau, Cake, etc.) that I blast from my car--mostly as a joke--when I'm back in Sacramento. I grew up there in the 1970s and early 1980s, and it was totally lame. I had to get out.
Very 90s song for the 80's
Larry Tagg is my substitute teacher

32 years later and this song still breaks my heart.
Yep this is my song to my ex-fiancé'. 😞
It's always had an ache
But, it's absolutely beautiful 💕
Ya know, I thought these guys were ahead of their time back in the '80s. And now, after watching this, I feel even more so!
Giovanni Thompson And the official music video for this song. Hard to believe it was made in 1987!!!
This song has a very special place in my heart. My Brother Gary white. Passed away from cancer December 30th 2007. We used to play this song together. He was a incredible guitar player. I will always be grateful for this song. God bless. John S Turlington.
The guitarist is now an english teacher at my school
he now goes by Mr. Tagg
Bass guitarist. The "guitarist" is Lyle Workman.
Bass player

Always loved the Rubber Soul vibe this song has.
Awesome
Love anything Brent Bourgeois ever wrote or sang...and awesome live performance.
I discovered Brent Bourgeois when he released Blessed be the Name (of the Lord) from Come Join the Living World. I had a friend who remembered seeing this in the 80s and told me of this appearance. Great music.
Lyle Workman on guitar. Awesome.
Davy Gravy ....great guitarist
Beautiful, truthful song.
WONDERFUL SONG.... CHANNELING SOME BEATLES HERE i THINK
This song, and for that matter this entire album, are time capsule level perfection for me. So unique and just, wow.
So under appreciated. Their downfall was "sounding too much like the Beatles". Like it's a bad time to sound like the greatest band in the history of rock 'n' roll. xoxo
A masterpiece of a song! I have loved it since the first time I heard it back in 1987. And these guys were a local band in my home town! :)
We're you in Sacramento?
How was this not a #1 hit?
It was. I had to learn it the afternoon I heard it. You're in good co. my friend. I played it a week later for a group of Dr.s at a Valley Children's Hospital private. It's just criminal
6-3-19 still love BT
It was actually a top 5 hit on what is now known as the adult alternative charts. Peaked at #38 on the Hot 100.
If they had been a hair metal band, and they had inserted a meaningless solo and had some models strolling around for no reason, sure fire top 10.
Such a timeless classic. Still listening in 2018!

Wow, I remember when that aired! Back in the good ol' days when the performers actually sang, rather than lip-synch. Awesome clip!!

Classic!!!
This song resonated with me the first time I heard it, I thought/think it's BEAUTIFUL. I want this play at my funeral when that time comes.
I remember watching this broadcast.
I loved this song way back when it came out. Always reminded of the Beatles.

nice live 1986 version from the Johnny Carson show.
I bought this album when it came out (based on the radio play of this song, not that my man Todd Rundgren produced it). When I went looking for video on it some time back, I was impressed with the gem of him and his son performing this in duet.
This record blew my mind. Cool to see them with Johnny:)
Great song!
Very *Paul McCartney-ish* tune!
Just got this on vinyl again for a spin and their whole album is terrific!
Tonight Show and yours perfects intros!
Correction: None of the versions sold on iTunes are the original. But the version by Lazlo Bane sounds very close.
Still the best Sacramento band ever. I wish y'all could see footage of their early very progressive shows at the Pub and other places. Easily their most mainstream pop song.
did that guitar player ever pick up the beginning nicely !!! yes, he did. don't cha know?
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!
Such a great song en so well performed!
I bought this single when I heard it on the radio in Holland about 20 years ago. Thanks for posting.
Always loved this track and the album it came from. Never seen a live version before, the vocal is great. Thanks for posting !
Nice song, produced by Todd Rundgren.
Wow, back when people could really play and sing without all the extra electronics!
There are still people like that... You just don't see them on TV anymore.
I play this song to death... Sweet!
Shire road,crest theatre.. good times..
Eldorado too
I forgot about shire road! Dam those were some hot spots for local music! ❤

This is a beautiful ballad, reminiscent of both the Beatles and ELO. German band Freiheit's "Keeping The Dream Alive" is in a similar style.

andrew james excellent find!
There are alot of things going wrong in my life and in the world,, But I don't mind at all.
@JLJable Same here.
Let's compare this to the wretched swill we just witnessed on the Grammys in 2021 shall we?
that would be everyones thought
haha, Yoko
could be a Beatles Song... like it.
can someone send me a new keyboard ad laptop??? need to take my show up where it left off here on the net!!! HVE TO B/C ITS KILLIN ME TO GET BACK INTO MUSIC!!!!
a couple of refugees from Uncle Rainbow made good
Probably the best original hit song by a Sacramento band. The Crest Theater??!! LOL
Tesla and Mr. BIG ALSO HAVE LME GREAT SONGS, ALBUMS THAT CAME OUT OF THE SAC. ROCK SCENE! OASIS BALLROOM!

The strings are piped in, right? As a cellist, that's disappointing. But it's still a very cool song. 🙂
Actually, I'm playing the string quartet part on keyboards. - Scott Moon
Very good underrated song and a very tight, awesome performance! Also really like the song Mutual Surrender!
I think 'Yoko' is a better title for the album and I also think Johnny's haircut looks better than Brent's.
A bit Beatlesque
whoa....the lesson plan would consist of how to properly eat a bat
Fantastic song! What a great singer. Todd Rundgren did a great production job on that album too...
