The most heartbreaking movie I've ever seen... I watched it a week ago and it still won't let me go... James McAvoy is amazing here, his sad blue eyes, oh my god...
I never felt the chemistry between McAvoy and Knightley. I think the relationship was based more on Robbie wanting validation, that’s why he was attracted to her. Recall that she’s very cold to him up until the library scene.
The false hope that the story plays with is perhaps the most heartbreaking part of it. Robbie and Cecelia believe that they still have a chance if their love has survived so much. He writes to Cecelia from France, saying that he will "simply resume".... "My story will resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the Surrey Park at dusk in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life ... I will return, find you, love you, marry you, and live without shame."
It's a stonker of a heartbreak what that film does to you. I don't think I've watched it more than once because of how things turn out being so sad. If I watch a Joe Wright film it's going to be Pride & Prejudice.
Omg the sheer AGONY in his voice when he says “if all we have rests on a few moments in a library three and a half years ago then I’m not sure, I don’t know-“ 😭😭 the amount of yearning just POURING out of his voice is unmeasurable as he lets it show how much he is dying inside at being unable to be with his soulmate. Just as his words question whether he is worth the sacrifices she has made, his voice reveals the endless depths of his love and need for her, and thus proves how much he is indeed worth it, how real this is. Those “few moments in a library” were enough to ignite something true, that is still burning and churning inside their chests even after not seeing each other in person for almost four years … 😭 they were made for each other. James McAvoy, what an actor.
It’s awful what Briony did and I do feel for what happened, but I’ve always seen the other side to things…. Briony felt it was inappropriate and didn’t understand things the way adults would. Also for the time, even though they were in love, it wouldn’t have been thought of as a good match, her wealth, rank etc. It wouldn’t have been approved of and if they had chosen each other I don’t think it would have been accepted. Society was different then.
The real tragedy is that Celia and Robbie were denied their own right to self-determination. Their choices were taken away. Robbie's literal freedom, the War literally destroying everything, even wiping away a chance for Briony to clear Robbie's name. The horrors of war.
that bitchy sister has no excuse, instead of asking her sister or feeling happy for her, she gets jealous and lies. Ruining so many peoples life and then getting to live her life the way she wants, id prob kill my sister if she done something like this, UNFORGIVEABLE

miss their chemistry, wish they'd make another film together
I felt the same way about Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan doing comedy
For me, Keira's best chemistry was Matthew Macfadyen, but with James McAvoy was also good, but not her best 😊
@@finarakhima1327 But their chemistry was completely zero in Anna Karenina as they were siblings in it.
@@zitronentee Why should be any chemistry between siblings? The context was romance. Pride and Prejudice was what I meant.

it's sad that was the last time they see each other alive
When two blue eyes loved two brown eyes :)
I cannot watch this movie. It breaks my heart. I need at least 7 years to recover. (Yes,I only saw it twice in my life.)
James Mcavoy is so beautiful 😭 those eyes
Keira Knightley is so damb beautiful, imagine being attended to by this beautiful creature.

He chewed off his fingernails to the stub 0:50
That was powerful.
why am I DOING THIS TO MYSELF
I do the same thing with this movie. It's just gets to me. I'll come back and watch certain scenes. Especially the last 10 minutes.
It's so nice they see each other but unfortunately their last.
it is still hard to understand English accent, but the war scene is quite catching my breath.
My favorite scene in the movie because here they came back again
I cried

こんな別れをするなんて
でも星の数ほどあっただろう
そして今もだ

But the actual reason is that Briony was attracted to Robbie and jealous of her elder sister.

You are easily bored. And boring with your inane comments. Tiresome as well. Troll somewhere else, please.
