Thanks!! Just ordered an $8 atomizer. This afternoon I'll remove the front hub from a well-weathered kiddie bike and make a banding wheel. (I knew there was a reason I kept that piece of 1990's memorabilia. :)
Hi, I've just brought myself one of those and also just found your channel, so this video will be perfect for me to learn from an expert, so over to you, your videos are amazing, can't wait to try this technique. Thanks for sharing
Hey Jim, I recently cam across your channel and loved what you offer. From Nerikomi and Agateware new to both as well as pottery. Still waiting patiently on my own kiln. So for now just gathering ideas and living vicariously thro all of you. thanks for sharing. Also can't wait to try out those salt shakers, thanks for sharing the video on those.. I saw them recently and was intrigued - so you can imagine my excitement when you had them AND shared a video for us - love!!!
Cons for both is that it’s messier and consumes more. Pros is you can blend and it’s very even. You can vary the distance to actually build texture with a glaze. For slips you could just brush them too and it would likely be fine or almost as good but aside from dripping, spraying a glaze is the best way to get an even coat. Or layer thin layers of glaze.
Jim, did you clear glaze over underglaze as greenware or underglaze/greenware bisque, THEN did the clear glaze to cone? Nicely done. Think I'll try the atomizer. Nice for small jobs.
I’m pretty sure I underglaze and glazed and bisqueware. I can’t see myself doing anything else as I’ve only done a handful of once firings and I never liked doing heavy coats of underglaze and greenware in case the moisture causes cracks or if I want to restart.
I’m just blowing air very quickly. If it sounds like I’m using a can it’s because I’m building up air in my mouth before I release the pressure built up into the straw.
I've always seen a mask recommended in case you're using airbrush no matter what type of paint you're using, wouldn't the same situation apply here, even though it's literally not feasible due to having to blow? Or maybe the device is too weak to create too many particles floating in the air?

Haha. Yes! I love taking apart old junk to make new toys. Diy pottery tools all the way!

Thanks! You can put the sprayed piece on a pedestal or leg, this will allow you to reach the base much easier
Thanks for the tip!
I’m living for that mulch scene and the plant montage
Thanks Brittany! I had a lot of fun making it. Slo mo makes everything better!

Thank you!
A kiln and a wheel got me started.
I have one of those sprayers, never used it but will now after seeing your video, thanks lots!
It a best bang for your buck kind of tool. And you can get pretty creative with it
My ceramic supplier sells atomizers for the leaves of plants. Works fine and you can wear your dust mask at the same time. 10$.
Thanks kind of awesome. Thanks for sharing, Ann!
Great idea.. Just wondering.. what are the pro/cons of spraying glaze vs colour slip?

@@CeramicJim thanks.. will get a 200ml one.. looking to use coloured slip.. 😊
God I wish you were in NYC and could give me private lessons. I hand built mostly and I really need help with throwing and centering!
That’s flattering of you to say. Who knows! Maybe some day our paths will cross.

Sir ye spray gan kaha milega iska praish kiya hii
Can use use this by hooking up to a air pump?
Yeah I don’t see why not. May have to fiddle with the pressure to get it right.
I’ve attached it to a bike pump before. It was a hand powered one but it worked.
@@CeramicJim thank you for your very quick reply.
👍
Hey, I wonder if you could rig one of those up with an air mattress pump... I may just investigate haha
yaayaa95 That sounds like it just might work... and I happen to have one. I may try that out myself haha!
very nice to watch
Thank you Denyse!
What is a glaze, what materials are in it? by any chance have you done glaze also, besides clay?
There are a variety of materials and every glaze can vary greatly. I make my own glazes.
amazing ideas your super clever.....
Sometimes I am👍🏻
Are you using a can of compressed air with the atomizer?
I haven’t yet. Just human power. A small compressor would definitely make it easier for longer spray sessions.
I’m just blowing air very quickly. If it sounds like I’m using a can it’s because I’m building up air in my mouth before I release the pressure built up into the straw.

Had this question as well. On top of that I was curious whether or not you could use one of those balloon/hand pumps instead as well.
These airbrushes are known to…. not be great for your lung health in the ceramics community.
hey mr fozio its miles from bower I like your vidos
Thanks Miles. Hope your art classes are super fun this year!

Great! 👍
snap fire 😸🔝
My favorite way to fire clay ;)
I’m wondering why no paint comes out of the giant hole?
I’m not sure I know what you mean. Can you explain?
