I just finished reading this book, laughed and cried at the same time. It's one of the best books out there on this sensitive and personal journey.

I’m 64- this resonates. My parents and my husband’s parents are gone. One was a clutter bug. I’m a borderline minimalist since I turned 35 or so and I love the freedom of less. Mostly it’s for the joy of living. Letting go what used to work so I can enjoy what’s working well for me now.
What doesn’t resonate is all these mementos and memories. A few things yes but even that needs downsizing.
Stuff is not a litter of kittens- the perfect home isn’t important. If in doubt ditch it.

“Clear your clutter with Feng Shui” changed my whole mindset about stuff. I am not into Feng shui & have no idea why I chose this book but it is about so much more than just Feng shui. It is a small book with bite size sections that help with why you find it hard to part with certain things. It freed me from stuff.

Great book! I'm not a Feng Shui expert but I know a major step to good Feng Shui is to clear the clutter ❤

One of my all time favourite books. It honestly did change my life and I re-read it fairly often.

Hey Susan! I read that too...it is funny when i think while cleaning clutter i managed to throw away some things which i needed later..and i had to buy it again...i would just say to all the cleaning buffs..be mindful when u are cleaning..

I read this book last year and loved it. I did use some of those thought strategies with family with great results.

I’ve been hearing so much about this book and method of decluttering. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I plan to purchase this book now that I’m 62 and ready to start this process!

I have and read this book. While certainly never a hoarder, I did have too much stuff. I hauled tub loads out of my house. Can’t organize until you purge. Marie kondos book helped years ago but this takes it farther. My life changed so much with our kids grown and not in the area. Why so many dishes? I don’t entertain like I used to anymore.

@8:13 This part of the book I DON'T agree with because this idea was the main fuel that cluttered my house for years . It's the part where you talk about giving things to people along with your stories of why it was so sentimental to you . I've had relatives over the years who did just that, they gave us things and they told us why they were so special to them and it seemed so nice at first, but here's the problem . Most of the things we were given didn't fit who we are or our home's decor, but because of the sentimental stories attached to those things, we now felt GUILTY about getting rid of them and we certainly didn't want to sell those sentimental thoughts to someone else . So we kept those items and what WAS our cozy little house, became a difficult to live in MUSEUM of ARTIFACTS . It's okay to give items away to other family members, but make sure 1st, that you're not just giving them JUNK, and also leave the sentimental stories ALONE, because you'll just make it HARDER for them to get rid of those items if they don't fit their lifestyle .

This is a good point actually. I'm just right now creating a video about "sentimental clutter" and clearing out my mom's home who recently passed. I thought the family (her other children and grandchildren) would be more interested in things, but I'm feeling more like it is a burden to them (and to me as I am the "distributor" of the things) Something to think about for sure...

My mom left my sister and I with so much stuff to get rid of when she passed away. We both vowed never to do that to our kids and have been careful not to accumulate too much.

I should have mentioned that my mom lived through the depression and WWII in Europe. Then she became a political refugee sent to Australia before making it to the United States. I’m sure there were many other people who lived through those circumstances that were like her - unable to get rid of stuff!

Kate! Do you have any suggestions on how remain consistent about not create more clutter once you have organised n cleaned..i end up cleaning organising and after 2 months i am back where i started .

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Monitor the incoming stuff! Nothing ruins a good organized system like a shopping trip or a trip to the mailbox! As new things come in make sure they have a designated home, knowing that something else may have to leave to make space for new things. Oh... and put things back in their home everyday (or at least once a week 😄)

That’s exactly what I did-emptied the attics and closets first. Everyone thinks it’s so awful-looking right now, but they go into the attic and their attitude changes.

Well, I have been declutering since covid hit. I have wakened up and saw all of the things I have collected over the years. I am 62 years old and realize that I have been buying up beautiful knick knack and these things are just things, I can't take them with me if I am gone tomorrow. I started putting things on sale on kijiji and sold a lot. The more I sold the more I started looking for more to post. I
Sold my Christmas China and mother in laws China that was boxed away along with flatware and crystal. My sons didn't want them, pink roses wasn't their style. The money was shared between my sons.
The knickknacks sold money was donated to charity like food banks .I have become more religious and realize that things are not important. Let it go.
