    I bought a plastic cutting board and cut some slots for the straps. Mounted the quick disconnect brackets and i now have bags i can remove quickly.

    They make the quick disconnect backing plates for the Pilot bags.

      I saw that, there a bit pricey though. Kinda wish they'd just include them instead of the hard case mounts.

    • @charlessykes6927
      @charlessykes6927 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe a little pricey but it's easy to pull on and off, especially for security reasons.

      I mounted the Tusk Q.D. brackets from the racks to black cutting boards that I cut down to shape. Put some slits in for the straps and mount the bags right to it. 20$ solution to a 200$ problem.

  • @907boomer3
    @907boomer3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got those bags too and I installed the quick release brackets right to the bags. The bags have a pretty stiff backing plate built in and it works just fine. Haven't found a workaround for shaving time off just simply opening the bag. What a process! I'm not too happy with them for those reasons. Should've skipped the pilot bags and just bought some pelican cases.

    The Tusk racks bolted up to my 1090, no sweat. Only complaint is the weight. 15lbs is a bunch, and that is just the racks and the bag brackets.
    Also about 100 bucks less than all others I looked at. Giant Loop pans, highly recommended.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they are a bit hefty, but the crash protection they offer seems like a fair trade. I've never used Giant Loop stuff but it does look nice!

    3d cycle parts make 1/2" HDPE mounting plates for quick pannier release. Or...do as Willy suggested for a fraction of the cost. I'm considering making some mounting plates with aluminum sheet. Need to devise some security measures to slow thievery.

    • @SwankyCatProductions

      Good idea! I think I might try the cutting board idea someone else mentioned.

  • @justmyself1000
    @justmyself1000 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good setup! I went with the same on my Gen. 2 KLR650. Tusk is a great price and not sacrificing quality. I would even argue that the Tusk bags are better quality than other ones that are more expensive such as the Mosko Moto. It’s funny…I know a few people who have the Mosko bags and are using the Tusk racks and mounting plates…but they still unnecessarily paid too much for the bags…when they could’ve bought the Tusk Pilot or Olympus. I also have the Olympus on my KTM 1190 ADV R.

      Be prepared to do some fabrication. They must be rushing production and the result is terrible fit/finish. I had to grind off sharp weld spatter, and the bolt alignment is way off. The 2023 has a different rear master cylinder that has to be relocated as well.

    I just installed the racks and the pilot bags on my new 23 KTM 890 Adventure R and I agree with you 100% about how annoying it'll be to remove and put back on... why couldn't Tusk have figured a way to connect to the quick disconnect system on the racks?!

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I really don't why they sell them as a "kit" like this if the bags are really intended to be universal and don't work with the quick release system. Seems like they should swap the hard pannier mount kit for the soft bag quick release kit they sell separately.

      I would assume so. You should be able to check double check fitment for your specific year and model on the website, but I think the only difference is in the swing arm linkage and rear strut. Everything that matters as far as the rack is concerned should be the same.
