  • This is a comparison review of the new (2021) #Tusk Pilot Soft bags against the 2020 Version 1 bags. This is not a full review - but just a comparison. If you guys want a full review - shout out and I will happily put them through the stresses of Missouri wood riding.
Some differences to note - the all-new front buckle is plastic instead of an aluminum cam buckle - and angles so that trees, rocks, etc will no longer catch them and break the metal. The front straps get the fantastic plastic stays instead of the velcro straps. But the velcro is still available on the longer top straps - good call #RMATVMC. They now have Molle attachment points for extra storage attachment, and easier to identify which side they attach to the bike when on quick access metal plates. They still come with a great waterproof inner back, saddle straps, and adjustable tie-downs.

Good to hear from you again!!! I’ve had a few good rides since then - but haven’t taken these on a camp trip as of yet.

The bags look awesome. Good points on the strap buckles. That would be a pain. Glad they fixed them up.

The original buckle design was nice, until they broke, and then you needed pliers to loosen the straps. I am most excited by the addition of the molle loops so I can add a small water bottle /snack bag / fuel bottle/ to the back foe easy access.

So what's the difference between this and the olympus? Size, and the fact those come with built in rack mount?

Hey Emir - Sorry I didn't see you message from several months ago. I wish I had a good answer for you.

I am curious how you mounted them to the quick release plate. I ride two up and buckles on my seat are not an option. I did not see a clear way to attach the top of the bag to the plate.

The bag hooks in two places on both the ride and left side of the plate for a total of 4 attachment points. There are two top notches on the plate but I haven’t found a way to anchor the bags to these as of yet. I’m gonna try a couple different ideas this weekend. Without the across the seat straps they do hang down a little bit - but are functionally unchanged. I only worry that over time the side straps will wear on the metal if hanging. I’ll let you know if I find a good solution.

@@314adv I also like to take precautions when straps and metal meet..
I needed something 'foam' to take the vibrations out of my skid plates,
and ended up getting some neoprene-like 'seal tape'..
It comes in x inches wide by x inches thick by x feet long rolls..
[you choose] I went with 2" wide by 1/4" thick and it worked Great!
I'm also going to use it for Exactly what you mentioned..
**Adding a padded/safe surface to the top of the rack - for the straps.
That way, there's zero chance of the straps being gnawed through
over time from a sharp edge or even friction.
Amazon: Search for: "Yotache High Density Adhesive Foam Seal Tape"
Then use the drop-down-menu to figure out what version will work best.
      Good luck!

      @@314adv - Most welcome!
PS: Great video! I just received my gen 2 bags yesterday as well as
two 30oz fuel bottles & a set of 2 Nelson Rigg bottle bags
[since the Tusk bottle bags are still out of stock]
You weren't kidding.. The design and craftsmanship are fantastic!
Most definitely meticulously thought out, and it shows.
Can't wait to get mine on and put em' through their paces.

Oh what I wouldn't give to upgrade from the V1! Really not a well thought through design compared to the V2.

Not sure if they are doing warranty on these anymore or not - but give them a call and see if they can help. You’ve got nothing to loose by trying.

where did you get the quick release metal plate? I've found one but it says is for the olympus bag, are they the same?

    • @314adv
      @314adv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

These are the ones I purchased for my '09 DR650.
      www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-pannier-soft-luggage-mount-p?s=1527861
I believe they are specific to the tusk pannier racks (which are specific to your bike), and not to any specific bag.
      Hope that helps.
