  • Pratt & Whitney are one of the largest aircraft engine manufactures in the entire world, and currently, they are working on their new groundbreaking geared turbofan engine, which is both more powerful and efficient compared to their peers. But first, we have to understand how the geared turbofan works.

This video doesn't actually state what the development in P&W's "new" engine is, nor why that is going to change the entire aviation industry. It merely goes through some previous engine development.

Where are you getting this information? Those thrust ratings are completely wrong..

The Pratt & Whitney JT8D-209 turbofan engine is one of my faverate engines however the new turbofan is absolutely amazing and efficient!!!!

I worked on the assembly floor on JT-8s in the late 70s. I used to get up to test and they had a JT-8 -208 they were testing then. I worked on JT-9 s some but mostly the JT-8s. When I left Pratt I took a job in Alaska where I commuted on jets where some of the engines that were customers(Alaska Airlines and Wein Airlines) of the engines I helped assemble. My wife and my oldest brothers and Dads retired from P&WA.

Fix the terminology in this video. The planetary gear is not between the front fan and low-pressure turbine. It is between the fan and the low-pressure compressor. The low-pressure turbine is behind the high pressure turbine, which in turn is behind the combustor.

Unfortunately their latest projects are a bit problematic making lots of jets grounded

Basically p&w combined a jet engine and prop planetary gear system separated the compressor and there you go the GTF.

I don't really understand this video. Turbofans have had gearboxes between the compressors/turbines and the fan since the 1970s. Most engines have had two spools, with the Trent family having three.

Helllo Whitney and Pratt, there is a dko about aplane whitch was invented 1935, and iit is abilaty to start from the water , this plane is still working in Canada
It has 3,5 liter Hubraum, itsarts very easaly, it needs np elektrik motors, the Pilot standing on the swimming part, just went to the rotor, with one hand he started
The Motor was Pratt and Whiney, had oly about 35 HP..................

C'mon, TH-cam, start policing these generic, boring A.I. videos! First of all, the purported "content" of this video is eight years out of date; the PW Pure Power engines have been flying commercially for over five years. The information presented is generalized and not factual.
