A year on since I started the pizza oven last year and it's amazing. Takes a bit of time to get it up to temp but when it's there it's cooking pizzas in about 5 minutes and they're amazing 😁😁
After the fire is lit, I put the next couple of pieces into the mouth of the oven. 'Pre warming' them means that they burst into flame as soon as they are moved onto the fire. I also build my initial firelighter/kindling onto a square of cardboard so that it can be put together outside the oven where its easy to see, then light the firelighter and just slide it into the centre of the oven.
Hi great tips for keeping smoke to a minimum. I will definitely use your method. But I was told to use hardwood on my pizza oven. Is there a reason why you use softwoods. ???
Fire lighters? In a pizza oven with all that fuel on them in the oven is very bad for you. Also soft wood is not right for a pizza oven. It burns to quick and the humidity is not right for reducing smoke permanently. It would be just easier to build a removable chimney extension to draw out the fumes. And then just use good quality hard wood with the right level of humidity and that will reduce your smoke. However there will always be a bit of smoke at the begging of your fires. Usually after 20 minutes it goes away. And Natural firefighters are much safer for food.
Brilliant insight on how to create a almost smoke free pizza oven. Tried this tip and worked well for us. Thanks.

I use welders gloves to reach inside to add wood, pans etc. Cheap and very effective.
Excellent video! Will try this method for my next pies!

Using a large amount of petrol based fire starters in a pizza oven seems like a major health an culinary mistake!
Yes. I nearly puked. This is a disgusting method
No one has ever addressed, let alone video'd, how to keep the smoke to a minimum. Thanks.
✔👍😎
And the smell for the neighbours is disgusting
