It's a shame that the damage done to the Kraken is either drastically reduced below ~25% health when destroying tentacles or it's doing a % of current rather than total health per tentacle destruction. I've attempted this fight a dozen times (Though with nowhere near the levels nor kit that you're using) and every time I was able to reach the same stable point at ~25% health but lacked the ranged firepower / reach to directly damage the kraken body so was forced to slog it out with the tentacles. Without an obscenely high level and well equipped force you're almost inevitably going to be subject to poor rng and eventually pulled out of position, starting a failure cascade. There's simply too many rolls required to kill the kraken entirely via tentacle destruction. It's really odd to see the two phases of the fight be so polarizing. The first phase requires a force entirely composed of high melee skill units while the second requires ranged firepower or a willingness to stand in truly ridiculous locations to hit it with polearms. Certainly my least favorite battle brothers encounter simply because it requires you to have a very specific and internally inconsistent composition or to brute force it through rolls. Also screw swamps. I'm currently mucking about with a 2/4 archer 10/8 polearm composition which I suspect can trivially crush this encounter but.. it's not exactly optimal for the rest of the game nor even particularly pleasant to play.
What about using cheese against it? Like dragging other parties to that fight. Shouldn't they keep that japanese stuff busy? Or is everyone like "yo kraken ol buddy! lets have lunch."
@@Shkibs Every time a battle brother is eaten by the Kraken it seems to spawn an additional tentacle. Dogs don't seem to trigger the same effect but I've been functioning under the assumption that enemies would. And I suspect that the enemy AI doesn't react the the Kraken's aoe insta-gib in melee range. Dogs certainly don't (They feed themselves into his maw at every opportunity) so I would be surprised if the standard AI did. Even if they tried to stay out of melee range (which they almost certainly won't) I've never seen the AI use AP to free an ally from a net or similar so they'd never cut their allies out of the tentacles. Given that the tentacles move you 4-5 tiles through swamp per turn on the wrapped unit's turn the enemy force would be sucked in incredibly fast. And that's before accounting for the fact that the tentacles aren't technically on the board when they're wrapping someone so there's no telling what the AI would do when there's no valid targets on their side of the encounter - They could just as easily sprint towards you, or blend themselves into the Kraken woodchipper. It might be worth trying but I haven't done so personally.
i've been following you lately and have seen some pretty good encounters and fights, and i've notice you've been using almost the same team setup every playthrough, was wondering if you can share them? your character builds and what not, how many archers do you go with or do you do archer/lancer hybrid? what do you max ? etc
Thanks for the upload and sorry about the crash. I've noticed there are two phases where tentacles is closed and then open. Obviously Kraken took damage from tentacles being destroyed. I wonder if one can kill kraken by destroying enough tentacles (long, tedious fight), or have to approach and hit the head (even more tedious :/)?

So what's the gimmick here? If you don't release your brothers from the tentacles then do they die? This seems like a joke, goblins despite being puny are one of the most dangerous enemies while this thing does nothing but crash your game.
I dont know if youre being sarcastic or not, but not part of the game no. He was incredibly infortunate enough to have his game crash on round 44 losing all of his progress

My main issue are plethoras of Orc Warriors hate them so much always end up with deaths around them

Kraken has resilence so that acid only last one turn, not worth the efforts.
