    VERY cool ! always wondered how to do this. Used to play with Estes rockets as a kid and wondered how it worked. Thanks Man!!

    Aluminum, magnesium, or magnalium powder is a good choice. The finer the better, as they quickly produce very high temperatures. Well done.

    Now that's more like it, thank you! I will use it for my harmless rocket hobby. To the moon!

    Nice, I use a similar concept with the wire, but with my ignition mixture is dissolve a ping pong ball in acetone to form a paste and then add the rocket fuel powder to it. Really enjoy the videos.

      Ping pony bals no longer container nitrocellulose.

    Dollar store light bulb. The filament cut into pieces. Burns white hot with a 9 volt battery.
    If longer burn add a tiny bit of green fuse.

    Been using cat5 nichrome wrapped igniters for years with my diy bp with aluminum powder. Instead of soldering I use my trusty radio shack wire wrap tool.

    Steel safety wire also works like your nichrome wire did, for cheaper, if you are using a good power supply (ie: motorcycle batery).

    U could use a 10 ohm 1/4 watt resistor instead of nichrome wire

    Hello...Greetings Minute Rockets. I just wanna ask a question that, I am trying to make a blackpowder igniter for my rocket motor with BATES-neutral burning grain with a Maximum operating pressure of 934psi (targeted).Do I have to use the amount of BP such that the pressure generated by the hot combustion gases of the BP will be in range of max operating pressure of the motor (For Startup phase) ?

    I use bead stringing wire it starts on fire - has tin in wire

  • @fatnick2001

    without a propellant, can i just use a sparler and wrap some nichrome around the end to ignite, with the other end jammed into a rocket motor? every video goes into length about making your own starters. But is a sparkler enough heat to ignite a rocket?

    Instead of keeping these igniters in a carefully controlled (jar with desiccant) environment, I'd try sealing the sugar based coating from the humidity by painting/dipping them in a flammable lacquer, like fingernail polish, or the glue used for PVC piping. That way they could be stored without concern for the hydroscopic nature of the original coating.

    Could you show us how to cast and make amonium perchlorate, aliuminium and ruber binder fuel? Also would you mind explaining what the ruber binder is for

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I may do ammonium perchlorate propellant (APCP) in the future, we'll see how much time I have. In APCP the rubber is both the binder (holds everything together) and part of the fuel.

    Does it really work better than an ematch ? The motor test doesn't seem to start faster than when I use ebay ematchs. Nice method overall but it might be actually worth it if a proper pyrogen is used. Unfortunately, those are somewhat difficult to make, particularly in EU

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These should make a lot more heat than an e-match. I think it depends on the motor. If e-matches work for your motors then that's certainly an option. You can also dip the e-matches in propellant to get more heat.

    Does the ingniter need to be as long as the propellant tube. Kindly share the positioning of the igniter inside the tube.

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, you want the igniter to light the very top of the motor first so you get good combustion along the full length. If you ignite it lower down in the motor then the flame has to travel upwards while the flow is trying to go downwards and that might cause a slow start or other problems.

    great job bro! just a question: 9V or 12 you use to fire your igniters? Thx... and continue!!! ;)

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      These are designed for 12V but will do just fine with a 9V usually.

    I wonder if coating them in wax at the end would protect them from moisture.

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a good idea, you could probably dip them in wax. Nitrocellulose or polyurethane lacquer would probably be good as well and might be more durable.

    How do APCP motors compare to KNSB or KNER? Thanks

    • @MinuteRockets
      @MinuteRockets  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      APCP has better performance but is more expensive, processing is more difficult, and the chemicals are more toxic.
