This is good news and I hope it will come true. I suspect the Ioniq 2 will look more like the Hyundai I20, but as far as I am concerned, that’s not a bad thing.
Edit: Hyundai seem to have skipped the Ioniq 3 and Ioniq 4. I was kind of hoping that the Ioniq 4 would be a C-segment (compact) Hatchback, i.e. an updated and improved version of the original Ioniq EV.

2024 could be the year of non luxury EVs. We saw the peak for both cost to make and price in 2022 and there is still a lot of cost takeout to happen as car makers optimize their supply chain and get better and making EVs.

That'd be great. When I got into EVs in 2020 with the e-Niro, I thought of it like an old Nokia phone. Said to myself, wow.. If this early model/tech is so impressive already, I can't wait to see the one I upgrade to in 3 years time. Yet, the e-Niro is still one of the best EVs in 2024... We ended up upgrading to an Ioniq 5 which is more beautiful and a lot better equipped, but as an EV, it's still the same efficiency. It's bigger, consumes more, same 500km-is city / 250km-ish motorway range therefore. Could have been built in 2018 with the e-Niro/Kona tech. So I hope the next upgrade will finally make the e-Niro look like a joke.

I remember buying my first DVD player at Costco for $350. There was a little sticker advertisement on it for a company called Netflix. They’d mail you movies and had a whopping 3,000 titles.
Of course, now you can buy a DVD player for $20 if you can find one. EVS will go the same way. 10 years from now they’ll be absolutely dirt cheap. My bet is they’ll settle at less than half of the cost of the cheapest ICE vehicle today, and be better cars.
With the exception of the very high end, cars will be a commodity with extraordinarily low margins. All the money will be in autonomy and SAS.

Have you ever thought about the packaging issues associated with putting 400kg of batteries in a 900kg car? There is a reason the first Tesla roadster didn’t sell in high volumes and it wasn’t the price. It was a heavy girl trying to audition for ballet. In a string bikini.
Having an electric car the size of an I20 will result in yet another BYD seagull. Heavy slow and short range in a price sensitive segment.
You can get away with an 85kwH battery in a $100K saloon car. You absolutely can not do this in something meant to be a direct and better replacement for an urban hatch.
What should have happened is Nissan delivering the Leaf AZE1 with 40KwH of sodium ion batteries for $28K drive away. But Nissan didn’t sign the contracts while others did. I’d suggest a minimum of 100Kw per tonne for a maximum of 30 seconds in Australia. As a minimum. Anything else is solving a problem we don’t have

Legacy auto promotes the inexpensive trim while only making them in extremely limited quantities. Just a few months ago, Hyundai claimed the Ioniq 6 started at $38K. "The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 costs up to $4100 less than last year, with a new starting price of $38,615" That price existed just long enough to get some press than disappeared. The EX30 is also being promoted as a $35K EV (heavily promoted). In reality, it is closer to $45K. If a 35K example is ever sold, it will be in very limited quantities.

As a Tesla owner I'd love to see this come to fruition!!! Even if it's $30k it's gonna sell like non-other. Tesla's biggest issue right now is complacency. Ask any owner who's had to visit a service center. The way they treat owners is absurd. Tesla does ZERO marketing, we owners ARE their marketing and as such I feel as though we should be treated MUCH better then we are. If your into EV's Tesla currently has you bent over a barrel as there aren't really any appealing options that can compete on price. Everything other then Tesla I find to be esthetically unappealing, far less efficient and more expensive to boot.

@@AndrewTSq ....sure it is. I find the reply a little odd to be honest with you. There's a pretty long and well documented history of service center fiasco's, which entails owners throwing thousands of dollars down the drain, replacing parts that didn't fix whatever issue. When it's brought up, the service center reply is typically a shoulder shrug accompanied with another multi-thousand dollar bill. The "throwing of parts" happens with other manufacturers too....but the reply is typically NOT a shoulder shrug. Other manufacturers usually cut the labor, reduce the cost of the unnecessarily replaced parts to cost, etc. Theres also the recent revelation that service centers have been instructed to NOT cover warrantied repairs whenever possible and attempt to push them back on the customer. Tesla is relatively young as a car company and they should do better when it comes to these things. Not spending on advertising is brilliant....bending your customers over the hoods of their 6 figure cars and shrugging their shoulders when they ask for some lube first, not so much!

I love the idea of EVs but there are several hurdles that need overcoming before i commit to purchasing one:
#1. Charging station infrastructure - this needs to be expanded drastically. If I’m on vacation (and i take long driving vacations) I don’t want to worry if I’m in the outback somewhere about finding a station.
#2. Charging times - most rapid chargers take an average of 15-20 minutes. If I’m recharging several times per day on my vacation trips, that’s a time and, therefore, a distance killer.
#3. Distance between charges - EVs simply need to improve their technology so that i can go 450-500 miles (and that’s highway miles) on a charge.
#4. Charging to 100% - the distance you can drive isn’t really dependent on a 100% charge because it takes MUCH longer to charge the last 20% (from 80-100%). What most people don’t know is that you most often only use 70% of your battery’s capacity while traveling any distances. The reason for this is that you never let it get to 0% and never charge to 100% (because of the aforementioned time delays charging between 80-100%). Most of us would let the battery get down to around 10% before looking for a charging station and then could only charge it to 80% (thus using only 70% of the battery’s capacity).
Once these items are taken care of, I’m all-in for the EV revolution!

How many times have we been plied with low prices coming in the future only to find out that the price has actually increased? The Ford Lightning was supposed to start at around $40k and the entry price is now around $50k+ as is the case for the Cybertruck, which Musk quoted a base price of $39,990 for a single-motor model in 2019. But it turns out that the current CT sells for around $80k, and the base model will sell in 2025 for $60k, maybe. But we have seen this movie before, car companies throwing out wonderful low-price quotes only to backtrack when it comes to delivering real-world vehicles. The other trick being used is to produce very limited quantities of low-priced EVs and mainly produce the higher-end versions. So let me put it simply, I don't believe any of them. These prices are in fact nothing but hype. We will never see a car at this price in the next two years made in any real quantities, if at all. It's total BS.
