Great video. My friend got a bike with this problem. The previous owner replaced the ignition with an after market ignition switch. Will replace it. Thanks. 👍👍
Where are you located?? I need a 2000 zx9r worked on just put a new to me motor in the bike blew last motor I rode the bike one day with new motor the carbs had a leak at the fuel rail T so I fixed that put bike back together carbs cleaned ect now bike only cranks no spark

Hey so working on a 2002 zx9r, tested the grey wire from the ignition, it’s an aftermarket on me not oem, I have the voltage drop at the pigtail but I don’t have it at the cdi box

i thought the same so was gonna drain the oil ofc see what may come out other then what should ?. lol ik they def wrecked the bike frames still good everything runs but is there a way i can send you a photo of a tube that def has burnt plastic stuck around it ?. Hey, i got a 2000 zx9r and since 2 or 3 weeks i have a problem. Sometimes when i press the E-starter there is nothing except a silenced electrical sound and after 1 minute or so i can get here on and she runs good. But only sometimes, what could that be?

Hey I have a 2001 ZX9R that I've owned for 7 years I've had numerous issues over 7 years but this new one is the biggest head scratcher started the bike up road to someplace shut the key off came back to the bike turn the key no power 30 amp main fuse blown replaced it immediately pops again I've checked every single connection that I can think about and looked for broken wires it's definitely wire to ground or wire to wire because the fuse pops immediately I checked the kill switch I checked the ignition switch I changed the rectifier a couple months ago because it was melting the wires any ideas other than pulling the wiring harness and taking it all apart and finding the broken or touching fires any help is much appreciated
Ok... And I was doing some searching last night and came across a thread where someone said sometimes the cheap Chinese rectifiers could cause this problem which happens to be the last part that I put on the bike. Have you ever heard of anything like that?
@@blackZX9NINJA if you'll email me I'll send you wiring schematics for that. And I have not , but if it's shorting out you can understand plug it, put a new fuse in and see if it blows
Great info, thanks! On my 98 ZX98 it sometimes takes forever to get it to spark... I tested for spark and after a loooong crank it suddenly fired up and ran great (she also zapped me like crazy in the finger, and ran on three cylinders😂). Any idea what can cause a delayed spark? I've noticed a small fray on the black crank position wire, might that be the culprit?
@@repair_tech_brian5388 Thanks, I'll see if I can get it fixed. I hate electrics, but there's no way around it, time to put the pants on and get it done!
@@repair_tech_brian5388 Found the hard-to-start issue. It was actually the idle set screw was set to high, at 1300rpm🫣 I lowered the idle to 1100, and she fires right up. A high idle negates the choke mechanism all together… I got the frayed cam position wire sorted anyway (but that wasn’t the issue). Kinda embarassing, but that’s life.
Really informative thanks. Love my zx9. Got an E1, I’ll keep this video in mind if it ever develops that issue. Subbed 👍
Appreciate that! I love my zx9s , in my opinion, it's one of the best bikes out their.

Does it have oil around the coil? Did you check the wiring and pigtail on that coil

im about to get all new fuses & and air filter . wiring harness isn’t correct.
Sir, the left coil on my 92 zx7 won’t fire. The coil works.
Any ideas? Please
Their is a wiring issue then. Check wires for any that could be broken going to that coil
@@repair_tech_brian5388 I've tried yo locate any issue. It's got to be the ignitor?

Could be, on the c model zx9s they have a cam position sensors on the right side of the head. Delayed spark can come from a wiring issue or a sensor
