    I completely disagree with your assessment of the Quartet. The set I have sound nothing like you describe. I'm very pleased with my set.

      Same here. I've had mine for about a week now - been listening non-stop - and I'm thoroughly impressed with the Quartet. I also disagree with the assessments in this video.

      I was about to comment the same. I don't know if the BAs are cheap, but I don't find the treble to be splashy or anything too negative. Biggest complaint is accessories seem pretty budget level for >$100USD.

    • @fiddlix
      @fiddlix ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some people are very sensitive to BA timbre problems. I happen to be one of them. Go try a set out and see if you like them. That’s all that counts. A lot of people have no problems with budget BAs. I truly wish I wasn’t so sensitive to them. I have to get into my Penon Fan2 or my Hisenior Mega5p b4 I get into full enjoyment mode to where I’m just hearing the music as it was recorded.

    • @MartinitraM
      @MartinitraM ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fiddlix I can accept that everyone hears differently, but I was confused by the criticism of the Quartet's treble as I hadn't noticed an issue. After more time listening I've found some tracks with I guess a lot going on at once in the higher end, like lots of crashing cymbals, where they do get kind of splashy and not well controlled. Not so harsh that I can't listen at a decent volume and I don't think it's an issue for most music. There might be a particular frequency range its BA struggles with though I can't say what exactly.

    I like mine, particularly the bass. Would like to find something with the same bass but slightly more
    controlled highs. This is my first set with BAs so there’s that.

    • @tonedeafmonk
      @tonedeafmonk  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would love to see a set with that bass and a Sonion BA for mids and Knowles BA for highs. The Penon 10th tuning at a $250 Price Point.!

    • @LLab71
      @LLab71 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tonedeafmonk I've not tried any Penon but they seem to review well. Sounds like a good wishlist IEM/price. Just bought the PR2 to see what planar is like, then will take some time to enjoy my modest collection. (Edit: just cancelled the PR2. I don't think I could take the treble highs.)

  • @fiddlix
    @fiddlix ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thank you for a great unbiased review. I knew this iem set was too good to be true. I can’t handle cheap BAs. I’m used to the Hisenior Mega5p and the Fan2 BAs. Even the Hexa’s have decent sounding BAs.

    I have the Quartet for a few days and want to like them but is no go for me …. Love the shape comfort and look. Bass is kind of good but the highs are somewhat splashing grain… I’m very treble sensitive still can take a good quantity treble but must be good or it will start to hurt me. Will try to do some more burn in to see if something changes…

    • @JackBWakeham

      @tonedeafmonk  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have alot of sets my references come from my home and desk reference systems as well as multiple IEM I own and have borrowed.
      Lately I have had the 64Audio U12t, U4s, Aroma Audio Thunder, Penon Serial, Fan2 , EA500.
      For me price is taken into the mix it terms of value not so much sound impressions. Gear sounds like they sound regardless of price. I hope that made sense.

      This "review" is anything but honest. It's the opposite of honest and completely different from what most other reviewers have been saying about the Quartet. It's not at all what I personally hear with the Quartet. This guy either got a defective IEM or he has ulterior motives in releasing this overly negative "review" of a very good IEM. I put review in quotes because he made this video on the same day he received the Quartet, so the most it can be is a first impressions opinion, not a review.

  • @editionyoyo
    @editionyoyo ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I can confirm some of the issues that you bring up. I found "down down" as my preferred settings. Splashy highs, grainy timbre from the BA's, it was lackluster. I am glad you didn't let the price define the review like so many others do, and I look forward to a future kiwi ears set which uses a major name brand BA in a similar config, with more bass control and placement.

      @@tonedeafmonk All reviewers have their own opinions on IEMs, like Timmy from Gizaudio doesn’t like the ea500, says it’s not for him, and I understand that. Intoit reviewer doesn’t like the ea500 either, but most everyone else likes the ea500, so there you go. Another reviewer Dave The Honest Audiophile is another reviewer who will tell you if he likes it or not. I watch everyone to form my opinion and what they cost before I buy anything. Keep up the good work. Maybe a review on the Dunu Kima Classic sometime? A lot it has to do with what kind of music you listen to as well.

      Got mine today, driving it through nothing fancy, just an old Scarlett Solo, stock cable, BGVP A07 tips, definately more sibilance than the EA500 for example but not what I'd define as fatiguing or anything, bass is nice, resolution and seperation is pretty good, but not as good as the EA500 for example. Think the EA500 spoiled me a bit in the res department, but the Quartet are perfectly fine as an all rounder from my impressions thus far, res is better than the Cadenza for example (although expected), allows me to listen to more of my electronic library while still being able to listen metal on the same set (which was the whole purpose of buying them) think pricing is okay, but they should probably be around the EA500 price or slightly lower IMO. (primarily been using down up thus far)

      I couldn't truly appreciate Fan2 or Fan; my least liked from Penon... & that's ok. Loved Serial, Globe, & Vortex. Loved EST50 & H50. EST50 & Serial (3 DDs counts, right?) changed my whole perspective on tribrids. And Volt *chef'skiss*! Years later Volt still stands triumphantly at the intersection of musicality, details, & technicalities all while remaining a reference level iem.
