Haha I actually gave it a try, on mine of course, and I was too out of practice for it to sound very good. Here’s the slap cello video I was referencing th-cam.com/video/0hbK1ul-ZNM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=edYDtGsOYvelOMok
He is doing massiv improvements though. Most teachers teach children and it takes a while to get a good sound because they don’t jet have the coordination or know how it should sound. So I’m convinced the teachers aren’t faking their excitement when the dude gets this much down in one lesson.😂
This is exactly what I love to see on TH-cam: someone who _loves_ what they do and cannot wait to share that thing with you, someone who gets so excited when you start getting into it too
It's what the world needs right now - people who don't just come alive with their wholesome joyful energy but rejoice when their fire catches fire with others as well.
Rob learning new instruments and vibing with the people he learns from is such comfort food for my soul. He always finds the most charming people too, for these collabs. Yanna is great!
The new FOO album got me in such a Scallon binge. Rewatching damn near the whole channel. Perfect timing for a new video with a great new guest. Thanks rob and the team for all the vids!
i LOVE this series and i love the cello especially, so to see this world collide in the best way possible made my great day even better!!! thank you so much rob
I’ve been a cellist for years, it was my first instrument and although I prefer guitar now I still really appreciate it as an instrument, I’ve been waiting for this for years.
These videos are so chill and nice, just rob hanging out with someone really good at their instrument and being like, "show me what's up with this instrument!"
As with every episode in this series, I could very happily watch a 1-hour version of this video. What a joy. Thanks Rob for all the positivity you bring to the world through music and exploration.
I think I just learned that cello is the most beautiful instrument like ever. I started tearing up during this video simply because of the emotion the instrument invokes.
These series of videos are my absolute favorite on TH-cam. I love how you dive into all these different worlds head first, showing us so many different worlds of music. Thank you
I love every single episode you do of this format but this was my absolute favorite so far! She has such a lovely energy and it was a blast to see you too interact. I hope she'll return for another video sometime I'd love to see you two again
just find one song you play REALLY well. master that shit .. and then do another one and then another one. it starts out slow but you get faster at it over time!
I love how you're always able to find people who are just as passionate about teaching you new instruments as you are to learn them, it _really_ makes this series magical.
around the 5 min mark, Rob starts playin similar to his 30 min of bass video from years back. brought a wave of nostalgia when i used to fall asleep at night to it
something i love about the cello is that the sound of the bow against the strings sometimes sounds like breathing, particularly in classical cello like the bach piece at the start. it just makes it a very intimate instrument and i love it for that
I have wanted to try cello ever since I first heard the cello quartet Apocalyptica doing Metallica covers on their cellos in the late 90s. They then went on to do a bunch of metal inspired and metal/classical mixed albums. They are so good. It sounds like she is doing a similar thing with hip hop and rap.
I grew up in a wind band setting as the only string player on upright bass, so I have very little personal cello experience. I’m subbing for a banjo player for a theater production right now and it surprised me how much low end the cello had, truly a versatile instrument. Also, maybe now Rob can get another cello endorsement and play cello at NAMM again, who knows
Watching your videos makes me exhale. I am pretty stressed right now and life seems tough. But watching your videos always make me feel so nice. Thank you. PS: I know this had nothing to do with the content of the video. But just wanted to share. Video is awesome!
Love these videos and I feel they will always be good even if you revisit instruments we can see if you've progressed at all even if you haven't touched the instrument in years. Great to see you doing well Rob and hope you have a great rest of your year!
So incredibly talented! I used to play the Cello back in middle school and really wish I would have stuck with it. I always loved it. Thank you for sharing!
Bought a cello not long ago and it's been hard to get comfortable with it. Very grateful for this video. Heres to hoping i can finally learn how to rosin a bow haha
Started playing because of ya:) Great interview fun vibe I git the bell on! Its so funny because i really did start learning from rob and getting obsessed on my own so i relate hella to having a fr music teacher Clown on me for getting as far as i have without knowing the basics
The next thing you could learn with the bow is staccato strokes. Unlike the smooth lagato where you use the whole arm, the staccato is going to be almost all wrist. After that, probably get familiar with the 2nd octave on each string which lines up with your thumb at the base of the neck.
Hey Rob, awsome video! Next time I think u should check out this brazillian instrument called "Viola Caipira" Its a open tunning weird acoustic 5 pair strings guitar used in our tradicional "country" music, I think you would love it.
rob tries his hardest to not slap a cello
Haha I actually gave it a try, on mine of course, and I was too out of practice for it to sound very good.
Here’s the slap cello video I was referencing

@@robscallon i love all of your old cello stuff, im just giving you a hard time
@@robscallonI think, he wasn't talking about the instrument
You have to get the dead south to jamb with you. Look them up, you will know what I'm talking about.
He shouldn't slap Yanna, that would be mean.
I love how excited she is at every little improvement
As a good teacher should!
gotta motivate somehow
I need me a teacher like that
I agree, she has good positive vibe
He is doing massiv improvements though. Most teachers teach children and it takes a while to get a good sound because they don’t jet have the coordination or know how it should sound. So I’m convinced the teachers aren’t faking their excitement when the dude gets this much down in one lesson.😂

I love passion

I do that every year too.
sick feist pfp
❤🙏
Happens every year, maybe twice :)
i LOVE this series and i love the cello especially, so to see this world collide in the best way possible made my great day even better!!! thank you so much rob
Thank you so much for being a patron and helping us to make it! :)
I love to see that purple Cello still existing. It's a Rob Scallon classic at this point.
Needs to be like a signature model at this rate lol
it’s one of the few instruments that survived the purge that he did last year
a classical cellist asking if you know "Knuck If You Buck" warms my southern heart
Yanna has such a warm personality and is so charismatic!
I’ve been a cellist for years, it was my first instrument and although I prefer guitar now I still really appreciate it as an instrument, I’ve been waiting for this for years.
It's so cool to see people's faces light up a room when someone genuinely wants to hear and learn about their craft. Love these videos!
These videos are so chill and nice, just rob hanging out with someone really good at their instrument and being like, "show me what's up with this instrument!"
i need an entire metal cello album collab from you two
metal hip hop with guitar & cello is something I didnt know I needed until now
Apocalyptica
As with every episode in this series, I could very happily watch a 1-hour version of this video. What a joy. Thanks Rob for all the positivity you bring to the world through music and exploration.
I think I just learned that cello is the most beautiful instrument like ever. I started tearing up during this video simply because of the emotion the instrument invokes.
Wish this was longer! Love Yanna's energy and the cello is also one of my fav instruments ever!! Still, great video :)
every single one of these episodes i have a big dumbass smile on my face the whole way through. please never stop making these
When she said “Faneto” I knew this was gonna be a good one! I LOVE her energy!
i didn’t expect a kendrick album today, but i also definitely didn’t expect rob singing melancholic cheif keef to cello
You picked up on these techniques faster than I expected! You are an excellent student and she is an amazing teacher. 😊
My son, a cellist for two years now, will loooooove this!
Wow, great first lesson! You had really good sound right away. As a cellist I'm very impressed with your ability to pick things up so quickly
I would 100% buy and endlessly listen to an album of just you two playing cello. Sooooo good!!!!
These series of videos are my absolute favorite on TH-cam. I love how you dive into all these different worlds head first, showing us so many different worlds of music. Thank you
REAL HUMAN CONNECTION!
The world needs this!
It never fails to make me smile watching people come together to share a passion that they love.
I love every single episode you do of this format but this was my absolute favorite so far! She has such a lovely energy and it was a blast to see you too interact. I hope she'll return for another video sometime I'd love to see you two again
She seems so cool! The cello is such a beautiful instrument.
rob always gets these amazingly talented people to show their instruments, when's he gonna pick me to show everybody how to suck at guitar???
just find one song you play REALLY well. master that shit .. and then do another one and then another one. it starts out slow but you get faster at it over time!
I think it’s a joke
Just played cello for the first time yesterday. Really hard to not play it like an upright bass. Awesome video
absolutely love this series. Please keep it up!!
Never ceases to amaze me how naturally Rob picks up new musical instruments. Mark of a true musician
I once heard somebody learn to play the violin in 12 hours or so. That was an experience.
The epic realisation at the start that's how a cello should sound
Yanna is the perfect addition to the group imo, Rob+Andrew+Yanna sounds like a sick idea!
I love how you're always able to find people who are just as passionate about teaching you new instruments as you are to learn them, it _really_ makes this series magical.
around the 5 min mark, Rob starts playin similar to his 30 min of bass video from years back. brought a wave of nostalgia when i used to fall asleep at night to it
I absolutely love these collaborative, informative, “jam” style videos
Cello is one of my favorite instruments and Yanna is at one with it.
Such a great video.
She plays beautifully ❤
When I was a young child I wanted to play the Cello though never did…. I play guitar and piano now
Never too late to start 😊
@besthobbit So true. Though I don’t have interest. I can barely play the instruments I have hence why I create “remixes” with more to come.
Yes!!! I’m glad modern cellists are getting more shine. ✨
This is really great! I love all of the videos in this style, but the vibes are so wholesome here - and you sound great together!
She has such a brightness in her personality, you can tell she loves teaching
something i love about the cello is that the sound of the bow against the strings sometimes sounds like breathing, particularly in classical cello like the bach piece at the start. it just makes it a very intimate instrument and i love it for that
Amazing how open Yanna is to you’re unique cello techniques
i forgot he grew up in chicago and so hearing him rap chief keef was a strange thing lmao
Would love to see one of these videos but with Rob learning harsh vocals from a metal singer!
We love this so much!
Rob Scallon singing Chief Keef is amazing

Rob: What does "Knuck if you buck" mean?
CMA: 🤔 👀
Rob: 👀
CMA:👀
Rob: Ok-
Her name isn’t CMA that’s the sponsor of the video lol. Her name is Yanna Cello
You guys made some awesome music together. That was sick, maybe the best one yet. I love you Rob
Rob is becoming an omni-instrumentalist and I love it
3:43 I knew I recognized that lighthouse, that’s the one next to the mansion that Evanston spent years trying to tear down. What a place.
Love the hidden gems along the north shore; would love to see the Baha’i temple make an appearance in the background sometime too.
I grew up in a wind band setting as the only string player on upright bass, so I have very little personal cello experience. I’m subbing for a banjo player for a theater production right now and it surprised me how much low end the cello had, truly a versatile instrument.

Love that you're still doing these! I asked before, but can the Chapman Stick be put on the list? I think you'll rock on that thing :)
Love these videos and I feel they will always be good even if you revisit instruments we can see if you've progressed at all even if you haven't touched the instrument in years. Great to see you doing well Rob and hope you have a great rest of your year!

Yanna is such a vibe!
she is such a happy woman and rob you are also a great player as always!
What? No Apocalyptica? 🤘😄
Seriously, what a fun video. I know you've shared that NAMM story before, but it's always fun to hear, as it is pretty wild.
Dude! What I love about you and your videos is that I know it's going to be a good time just by seeing the thumbnail!
This is my favorite kind of Rob Scallon content second only to his collabs with Andrew.
Awesome stuff Rob!
Started playing because of ya:)
Great interview fun vibe
I git the bell on!
Its so funny because i really did start learning from rob and getting obsessed on my own so i relate hella to having a fr music teacher
Clown on me for getting as far as i have without knowing the basics
Man, Yanna just lights this video up, doesn't she. How fun.
Yanna looks like an amazing teacher ! Rob is also a great student
Yanna was so excited and happy to yea to teach rob her instrument😭
Excellent video
I would love to see a collab with Rob Scallon and The Dooo, I think thta could be a lot of fun. Like them trying to learing new songs on the fly !
this feels like a step out of the comfort zone and its really cool to watch
God I love this series sm
Loved this!! wish it was longer :)
She seems like such an awesome person to just hang out with. Great video!
It's amazing how the first thing you guys played sounds like Slavic folk music.
cello is one of those goated instruments...just never fails to sound amazing.
that was awesome! She's incredible! Rob, Yanna, Marcin and Andrew...
Rob, come to Montreal and I'll teach ya Flute and take ya out for the best Poutine in Canada!
Absolutely love seeing a rob video I helps my day
I’m always more inspired as a musician after watching your videos
this was a really fun one
What an amazing teacher
I love your videos!
Your channel is one of THE most inspiring for musicians!
THX!
0:55 ideal synchrony, seems that you have REAL connection xD
That was so fun! Thank you Yanna and Rob.
She was awesome, this was awesome. Could have watched a couple hours easily.
wish this was longer with more history / info about the instrument like in the other videos but this was still very fun regardless!
i could just watch 10 episodes of this. thank you Rob.
this is an amazing episode of an amazing show
These interviews always put me in a good mood. I’m going to keep asking you to check out claw hammer banjo, you’ll really like it.
Love this series, keep up the great work
I love that Rob didn't need his pick at all during the last song but kept it in his mouth anyway and put it away right after :')
got so excited to see a new instrument learning video !
glad to see you back :)
She was so encouraging!
This videos isn’t long enough!
Love this series
The tone on that electric cello is epic
this one was so fun to watch
