    Thanks for sharing, and so glad to see it spared from the scrapyard.
    I grew up in the '70s, in a small town in Oregon where SP's Siskiyou Subdivision passed through. Long lash-ups of these tunnel motors were a common sight, and you could feel them coming from miles away before a long blast from a Nathan announced their presence downtown. I really miss those days.

    Good to see that another one is saved from the torch. Thanks for sharing!

      most of them never got the torch....they work for ALL and FCA....FCA rebuilt theirs to BB40T-2 status....while ALL rebuilt theirs to metric.

      Narrow gauge Studios yes, what makes it interesting is all SD40-2s and SD40T-2s in the America Latina Logistica fleet were rebuilt to metric, some C30-7s as well, while other C30-7s were rebuilt to meter...on the metric line they have been falling when the suffer mechanical problems to GEs new ES43BBi....but the meter C30-7s are still plenty...On Valor Intregeda Logistica the SD40-2 and SD40T-2 as well as C30-7s and B30-7s were rebuilt to BB status....they now have 2-4 axle trucks on each end....some ex CP SD40s and some ex BN and UP C30-7s went to MRS logistica and run on Meter....MRS is storing a lot but VL! still runs everything....you can search youtube as there are aaaaaaaaaallllllllllllloooooooootttttttttt of Brasilian men and women railfans....

      Narrow gauge Studios I forgot to mention there are a lot of BN SD40-2s in brasil that belong to Brado leasing and Progress Leasing as well as some used for Parts....but C30-7s are loved there as they hoarded parts....almost every C30-7 from every railway is there.

    Amazing video! Definitely a one of a kind event! I saw this locomotive last June when it was still resting in its spot at Coors.

    I live right down the street, I've been asking for years when this would happen, and nobody told me. I'm highly disappointed I wasn't able to see this.
    I'm left out of the loop.

      Communication was very poor regarding this move. Nobody at the museum could tell me when it was moving. I had to drive by the area daily to see if anything was happening. They should have posted something on their website about it.

    According to Utahrails, these actually weigh 194 tons. The Milwaukee units, with they're small fuel tanks may have been 184.

    Sad, but good it is going to a museum, too bad UP ruined so many by repainting them just to retire these and 45T-2s. They did not look good in UP paint.

      you can't expect the power to stay the same when it is bought by another railroad.

    • @spacecalander
      @spacecalander 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I never said that , i just said it was sad because i liked the tunnelmotors . They looked like shit in UP colors and UP wasted money painting them instead of donating them to museums. If you have a problem with that then it is your problem.

    • @devernepersonal3636
      @devernepersonal3636 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its a business of course they wanted to keep using their locomotives and put new paint on them. I love BNSF and i think their old power should have been turned orange a long time ago. especially since most of it looks bad now.

    Awesome video. Glad its going to museum. Got kind touchy near end. That's a lot of weight on them straps. They did great job moving it and getting it there. Guess they will have to repave them roads. Thanks for sharing. Safe travels ahead. God bless.

    I remember in the late 80's watching 4 or 5 of these go thundering through glenwood springs CO with a coal train, what a sight. I notice the nose headlight has been filled in, its that a UP deal when they took ownership of D&RGW? It was getting a little shaky there at the end.

    • @AlecWarper64
      @AlecWarper64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Once the gyralight would break on these guys it was quite expensive to repair, so many railroads would just remove them after ditch lights became a legal substitute in the 90s.

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No when I worked for Union Pacific we had some SD40T-2s still in service and most had the revolving nose lights. I remember one time that headlight was moving back and forth and got stuck to the right. It was a really weird trip when the headlight was lighting up everyones house as we went by. Later when I worked as a locomotive mechanic we could not fix those lights as the company that made the light was out of business and there was no parts. So as they broke down they were patched as well as the marker lights.

    • @shawnfloyd5757
      @shawnfloyd5757 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Traveling Tom yeah a ocsalating nose light to warn cars or people of a train. Well that makes sense.

    • @FFred-us9tw
      @FFred-us9tw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travelingtom923 Just as information, the company who made the Gyralite is still very much in business and still offers parts. Originally it was Pyle, then they sold off the railroad lighting division to Trans-Lite and they have since sold to Teknoware. But the sealed beam version Gyralite and all it's parts have been in continuous production for over 50 years. Chicago's Metra commuter rail is still using them and buying parts.

    Why not build tracks from the main line to go on the road/bridge itself to the museum? I understand the city won't allow a new railroad bridge, but the road bridge is there. Build the rail in it for permanent access.

  • @spacecalander
    @spacecalander 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wonder why a train museum did not have tracks leading to it. Or did they somewhere else. Kinda hard to get locomotives if you have to get them this way always :)

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is a small canal between the tracks and the railroad museum. The city would not allow anything built over the canal even though it is probably only 10 feet wide. For over 20 years there was a rotary, and a steam locomotive on the other side of the canal that the railroad museum could not move. It took a lot of legal work to finally get those two pieces out of there. It is very frustrating though to have a active main line only about 1/4 of a mile from where your museum is and no way to get to it.

    • @jjtaylor714
      @jjtaylor714 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's been sitting for so long with no upkeep to it so now to if you were to get it running again it would take upwards of a million dollars. The museum plans to cosmetically restore it to it's original look of when it was delivered to DRGW and leave it as that.

    • @ddblink02
      @ddblink02 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jjtaylor714 Not even a complete restoration would cost anywhere near a million dollars. If it was a runner when it was parked, it probably needs fluids fuel and batteries. While those things are not cheap, they would not add up to a million dollars.

      I probably have something in my archives. If my memory is right the final curtain on the UP owned patched or unpatched D&RGW power ended around 2012. I am sure there was still some GP units lingering around a bit longer. The SP and D&RGW tunnel motors were meeting their demise as early as 2001.
