As I watch this clip from the legendary Willie D it brings me to my childhood and all the destruction I brought upon my people and my community. While I give thanks and praise that certain situations made me change my life I still have to look at this situation by holding up a mirror to myself. We as a people need to figure out a way to build up our communities but also protect our communities. How do we build up the youth, how the we give them opportunities how do we take them from this poverty mindstate and build them up. While I would like to say this young man deserves his time. I am forced to look at myself as an youth. We as black parents have to do better. To all black men please for the sake of our kids. Wise up and Rise up

There are life sentences with the possibility of parole, and the stipulated numbers can vary. It can be 10 years to life, 20 years to life, 25 years to life, 30 years to life, etc. Sentences and charges vary depending on the state.
Also, he was sentenced to 60 years with all of it suspended except for 25 years. It is different from having a 25 years to 60 years sentence because it's sort of like a mandatory release date, even though it may be possible to be held beyond that date depending on what the individual did while behind the wall. I'm not exactly sure. However, I am sure that it's different from 25 years to life or another number much greater than 25 years because parole is not a guarantee and even if the individual comes home they can violate it and go back in. If he is released after serving 25 years, he is going to still be on a certain amount of probation or parole even though I believe it may be probation and go can go back in if he violates either.

Man look im 47 years old born and raised in DC. I got shot 7 times in 1996 living a certain type of life, but now in my city the courts are letting these youngins rite back out on the streets after committing harsh crimes. Just recently a young man was released from jail on house detention, after shooting a car up 26 rounds with a AR in the middle of an apartment complex parking lot. They shouldn't have released this guy at all.

I want to know what his life is like at home. Who raised him or didn't raise him. Not making excuses for his actions because he should pay for his stupidity. Too many kids going to prison with no chance of ever being rehabilitated. Bad parenting is killing our children. Somewhere in his short lifetime he was let down by a line of adults. Shameful.

25 years of a 60 year sentence he got he has a lot of time to do some thinking, my only question is will he survive 25 years in the joint because if so, he will be 40 years old when he gets out and hopefully maybe he have learned by then.

I don’t understand the outrage. I taught my children sometimes you only get one mistake that can take your freedom or take your life! Examples are out there for these kids to see what happens when you make bad decisions. They need to start paying attention and learn from others mistakes!

There is always a way out of a bad situation if you're willing to work for it. I had an amazing teacher in middle school that told me: the Chinese symbol for adversity becomes opportunity if you turn it upside down. Look at your adversity from a different angle and you'll find opportunity.
