  • After tackling the Trifecta of Moab's Poison Spider, Golden Spike, and Gold Bar Rim, we decided to make some modifications to the rig.
    After Cruiser Outfitters kitted us out with a rear locker and ARB twin scroll compressor, we decided to tackle Poison Spider again.
    We had high hopes that the locker would get us through easier. But we weren't ready for the cold..

    Nice wheeling and love that trail. I did the trifecta in 2021 and it was my favorite trail in Moab

      Yup, Golden Spike is probably my favorite trail of all time. I bet your FJ crushed it, with the supple long travel suspension!
      It's painful watching the footage of my stiff HD t-bars compared to my family in Wranglers. (I've since dialed down my front preload to return back some droop. I'm hoping that helps with the pogo'ing!) But at the end of the day, I love the comfort of my Land Cruiser and it's the right size for my family. (I just should have found an 80 series!)

    great story! Very impressed with the younger narrator, glad losing a shock didn't cause immediate peril.
    Always surprised to see a family SUV in Moab, have only taken my 1999 Land Cruiser on the mild trails there so you have all my respect. But I might look into getting shocks mine might be original. yikes

      I had the same one shock fail on my Disco 2 and it was bouncy, the cruiser??? If it didn't make noise, you wouldn't have known it busted. Probably because the suspension is so stiff without the full overland gear installed.
      Thanks for watching!!

    Another awesome video! It looks like your rear axle had some lateral movement on the first optional obstacle you attempted, perhaps that's when the shock sheared off? In any event, the rear locker looks to be an excellent upgrade. Every time I'm in a situation where ATRAC engages I'm reminded of my desire to install the locker. Since those occurrences are infrequent however it's hard to justify the expense.

    As always your videos are better than most TV. Great quality and it is a bummer to get caught out by a trail breakdown. At least the toyota didn't leave you stranded.
    Are you sticking with old man emu shocks or replacing with something else?

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since I only needed to replace one, I went with OME again. There is definitely a love/hate relationship with OME in the UZJ community, but I was impressed how well the vehicle handled and wheeled with a missing shock.

    For someone with no lockers or armor are there any easy trails to explore in Moab that would make the trip from San Diego worth it? I’m stationed in SD and being from the east coast I’ve always wanted to go to Moab. We have a LX470 with 285/70r17s on the way. We also have a 24’ Willy’s 4XE but i would be hard pressed fitting 3 kids (2 in car seats) and all of our stuff in a wrangler 😂

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely!!! Rock sliders are really all you need for the really hard stuff, but trails like the potash road down shafer switchback would be a blast in a factory spec cruiser.
      Go to red rock 4wheelers website (rr4w.com) and look at trails rated 3 and under. You build could do 4s if you are experienced, but I’d want sliders.

    I love your LC, I would love to buy a 2006/07 but gas prices and other things are stopping me for now. I do have a 97 3rd gen 4runner, you think I can do this trail with a 2 inch taller suspension and rear locker the rest stock?

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. It mainly depends on skill level. I've been up in a '94 ZJ Cherokee with 2" spacer, 31" tires and an open center diff.
      I had really good spotters though. This trail is within the capability envelope of a mild built 4runner with experienced driver. I'd have rock sliders though.

    Nice video!!! I have a 2001 LX470 and I want to add lockers, can you share the part number or the brand you use? I've been looking for lockers with no success. I also have a GX470 and I wonder if the parts are the same. Thanks a lot!

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว

      Part #s will be different because the rear axles are different. My locker is an ARB. You can go to ARBUSA or your local dealer and they will hook you up with costs.
      I had cruiser outfitters order and install mine. They can ship you the parts too.

    I have a 99 Land Cruiser. I did a Harrop e locker in the front, with a factory rear locker. I makes a huge difference having both ends locked up.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! I can't wait to install the front locker. I also lowered my front end by 1", in the vid you can see me proposing super easy when the front is unloaded. It's just so stiff.
      It'd arguably perform better with some weight from a steel bumper.

    • @RandomGuy-qm3mg
      @RandomGuy-qm3mg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also have a 99 LC and am thinking of avoiding the weak front diff problem by having a e locker installed. Nice to hear it made a noticeable difference!

    • @cliffdhall
      @cliffdhall ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ForgottenWaypoints Yep having the front too high (not enough droop) will be stiff and on steep slick rock climbs steering can feel squirrelly. I went with front extended travel shocks and UCA to get more height in front, pricey but it works right. I am a big fan of the low range crawler gears in t-case, don't use ft and rr lockers as much anymore.

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cliffdhall , I've toyed with the idea of crawler gears in the t-case. No doubt, performance would be great, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost (I'd like a rear bumper, winch etc. too).
      I actually needed to drop the front for when I'm geared for multi-day travel, the droop in the back made me front-high. So my rake is now set to factory with all my gear in the rig, so I'm slightly nose down when light. That's ok though, as I should have more droop, which is what I'd want for technical trails anyway.
      I've only tried the new ride height in Sand Hollow, East Rim. And easy trail, but it seems so much better.
      I'm also sick of getting an alignment annually!

    • @ForgottenWaypoints
      @ForgottenWaypoints  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I've been in the hobby since "Overlanding" was camping and rock crawling was "jeeping".
      Moab is great and the camera rarely catches the angle and thus the difficulty, couple that with the hundy's relatively poor crawl ratio and IFS and it's not exactly the easiest of rigs to wheel.
      You do a great job! Your vids and shorts are great.
      I want to get a front locker and test my mettle climbing Rosegarden, your shorts of descending it don't make it going down might be as tricky as climbing!

    • @cruiserpatch
      @cruiserpatch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForgottenWaypoints I wouldn’t climb rose garden in my LX unless I had at least three pre-set winch anchors along it.
      There are some easier lines but a 100 series will have a tough time on that hill.
      That said, if you attempt it, let me know so i can come watch 😂

      @@cruiserpatch , we had a locked 450/80 in our group that struggled. We got the Rubicon wranglers up, but it wasn't easy for them.
