They were trying for a bit, black adder isn't a great control bot, and I was aware that they might try so I was keeping some distance when they were setting up for it.
Project liftoff is a meltybrain... Like in the robo fighting dictionary, the entry for meltybrain would just be a pic of project liftoff. Its not a broad category. A bot where the entire bot spins and is itself the weapon. 100% of the mass of the bot spins and goes into the force of the hit. Project liftoff has non traditional means of movement, titanium spiked wheels on the bottom that spin the bot. Which gives it a bonus to its max allowed weight. The wheels can pulse at slightly different speeds to allow it to control its direction, the pulses happen unbelievably fast (on a per revolution basis), so it requires super precise computer assistance. Meltybrains are just really difficult to make work well. The movement especially is really difficult to pin down. And they're really temperamental when it comes to the type of surface and size of the arena. And the design doesn't scale up well (safely). So project liftoff is essentially the only meltybrain that's successful.
I have to admit for a 2 wheel tank drive bot like black adder the driver had really good control over the drive keeping PTO from ripping his bot apart. I think black adder was trying to push the mini bot into PTO but PTO was smart enough to not fall for it. Good drive game over all but if you really dont want your bot to get mangled then just tap out and save time
I assure you we did. It was my first match driving so there was a learning curve with the IR reference frame, but from 0:33 where you see the LED snap to point at the wall until the end of the match, any move that the robot made was from my input. The driving is more challenging than you might think.
@@andrewkazmer5199 Definitely just hoping you would stop, probably hoping you would whack the sides. Congrats on the win. This is the first fight I have seen in this weight category, first part of it was exciting anyway. But you guys earned the win disabling their weapon.
