You can always tell an old school cook. They don't have time to be bothered with complex techniques or supper picky measuring. They just know what the dish feels like because they have done it a thousand times, and they don't have time for nonsense. It's all about simple, and get the meal on the table. The love takes care of the details.
OMG! So cute! So heart (and belly) warming. I am a softy for grandmas from all over the world. Where would we be without them? I can't wait to make it seven years later! Love to your familia.
I have missed Cuban food so much. I didn't think it would be so hard to find a decent Cuban place in Texas... so I've taken to cooking it myself. Never made black beans on my own but this video was so easy to follow along. Your grandmother is a precious gem and reminds me a lot of mine when they were alive. The beans were exactly the flavor I was looking for. Husband and I enjoyed them for a long time. Thank you for the video. Everything about it made it feel like home.
Your grandma brings back memories of my Cuban grandmother and aunt . Thank you so much I miss them so much . Having black beans steak and toastonez was a main staple when we would visit.
I love it. I love you. Thank you. Your abuela is very sweet, funny and we appreciate her just as much as you. Im gona make this tomorow :) got to make sure i have everything i need
I absolutely love Cuban black beans and Cuban food in general. You have such a wonderful and beautiful family and your videos are fantastic. Sending lots of love.
Oh my Sam, watching your Abuelita cook put a smile on my face, it reminds me oh how my Dad used to cook the same way measuring everything by eye, come to think of it he didn’t use measuring spoons, cups or written recipes. By the way I also mash some of my beans even though some Cubanos say that it wrong to do, but I don’t like my beans too soupy they need a bit more body for my taste so I make them a mi manera just like your abuelita.
Joaquin, so nice to hear that this video brings back memories with your dad. It's really what family cooking is all about...the love! We like them with more body as well -- a tu manera -- is the way to go!
Love this video Sam! Just watching you share with your abuelita, it's priceless! And of course, the Cuban recipe for frijoles negros!!! I'm Venezuelan, and although we cook them pretty much like that, it's great to see an original Cuban Abuela Style💖
BLESSINGS TO YOU & YOUR FAMILY! THANKS SO MUCH ....I REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO & LISTENING TO THE BEGINNING OF THE MUSIC OF BELOVED CELIA CRUZ.
I have tried for so many years to make them like my Mima and never came out good , so I stopped for years making them ! Than I said let me attempt this again and I found your Mima video.. I made them and WOW!!! It took me back to my Mima house ❤️Thank you for sharing your wonderful Mima with us and her Frioles ❤️
Wow these come out so good! I’ve always made freshly chopped and fried sofrito after the beans are done and add them at the end but this way is so much quicker and taste amazing! Thanks for sharing 🥰
So delicious I love your grandma she’s so cute 🥰 also I’m Mexican and Cuban is my favorite food 😋🤤 I am so glad I found your page thank you for this great recipe #foodporn 🤤 bendiciones 💗🙏🏼
Wow, your Abuela reminds me so much of my Nino's Mom. She would always have so much fun when she cooked; this is the food I grew up with both at home and at my Nino's house. I've already tried your 'Carne Con Papa' recipe (AWESOME), and I am currently waiting for my black beans to finish cooking. Thank you!
Holy Cow!! They turned out AMAZING! The beans & rice didn't last very long at all. Thanks again; my next adventure is going to be pork in my pressure cooker. Wish me luck! ;-)
Me encanto el video. Gracias por compartir su abuela y su cocina. Esta es mi tradicion familiar ahora. Mi esposo e hijos les encantan. Hagan mas por favor. Oyeme Sam love the spanlish. Great videos.
I love your channel. It has reconnected me to my Cuban roots back home in Miami. I’ve been in Houston for 11 years away from my grandmother who is quite a chef and it’s hard to find some good Cuban cooking close by at a reasonable price... And of course, I didn’t know how to cook this kind of stuff as my mother and grandmother didn’t like people in the kitchen while they cooked. Lol ... thank you so much for your channel and it’s authenticity. I’m currently cooking this bean recipe for my husband (who is an African American black man lol) and hopefully they come out as good as I KNOW ABUELAS beans came out. I’ll will give an update. Again Thank You and tell abuela I love her and she is the best! 😇
Made this last night in my new pressure cooker. I added 2) habanero, cilantro stocks and 1/2 lemon squeezed and thrown in. The lemon knocks it out of the park!
I just cooked this beans for the first time although I used the same method of cooking Black eye pea and turned out great. Am enjoying it with rice as I watch this video.
Thank you for the recipe .Could you tell how long the beans have to be cooked if you don't have a pressure cooker, but just a regular Dutch oven? Thank you
Hey, Sam!! Love your videos and your Abuela! You're pretty awesome, and the two of you are super funny, lol. Love the recipes; keep 'em coming, please. Un abrazo fuerte y un beso a la Abuela y dale las gracias de mi parte por compartir sus recetas con nosotros :) I've tried all her recipes and they are all great!! Thank you!!! :)
Awesome!!! I love your Grandmother's style of cooking this (Cuban Black Beans) recipe. I admire the way she uses semi-whole vegetables in her recipe, instead of chopped. I will try her style of cooking this recipe. Except, I might use crushed fresh garlic cloves from the beginning of the cooking. However, I will do the other vegetables as she did. Using your grandmother's post cooking vegetable crushing technique gives a meat presence affect as the pieces are more noticeable in sight and taste texture. I will figure out the recipe's ingredient measurements.Thank you much!Eddie Hodges/ Philadelphia PA USA
If you don't have a pressure cooker you can achieve the same results by cooking the beans along with all the other ingredients in a regular pot on the stove. They will take longer to cook however. Simmer them for about 2 hours or until the beans have softened. Stir occasionally!
Tell your grandmother that looks good but now she needs to show us how to make the rice this is Lydia from Dallas Texas and I'm a Spanish and I love the Cuban beans because my mother had a friend lived in Florida thank you for sharing that with us
Unrelated to cooking but usually bilingual videos are in American English and Mexican Spanish but I loved hearing your Cuban Spanish! More Spanish varieties in USA!
faithmate - just put a little vinegar in the pressure cooker with al the ingredients before putting it to cook! You see the vinegar around minute 4:05 :)

Lovely to hear! It impressive how different Spanish can be from country to country!
I liked the recipe, looks good. I have not enjoyed the turtle bean but maybe using all that garlic would do it.
Garlic is a delicious ingredient and very prominent in cuban cooking!
Entero! ... como abuela dice!
A cuban pinch = 3 American pinches!
Randy Yamada - haha that sounds about right!
@@SamazingTravels Of course, the totones she has on the side will help complement the frijoles!!! :-)
Randy Yamada who doesn’t love some tostones!?
Will you have tu abuela make her version of congri?

Omg ! & that will say it all .

From where do Kubans get Oliveoil?
I missed it. When is the vinegar used? What does it do for the dish?
faithmate - just put a little vinegar in the pressure cooker with al the ingredients before putting it to cook! You see the vinegar around minute 4:05 :)
What do those empanada taco looking things have in them?I see them at the end of the video.
How clean is her kitchen! Who does the washing?
Abuela is a cooking machine! But she also believes cleanliness is next to godliness! She’s constantly cleaning up after herself as she’s cooking!
Can these be made in a slow cooker?
Absolutely! Same process, just put the slow cooker on low (or high if want them done faster) and let them simmer!
can you make this in a slow cooker?
Yes! On low for about 3 hours. Let me know how it turns out!
