  • This is a detailed video tutorial on how to make a custom slipcover for a dining chair that ties on. I show how to make a ruffled skirt, but the style can be adjusted to a pleat, kick pleat, etc.
    A tutorial on sewing custom piping is here... missmustardseed.com/how-to-se...
    Fabric is "Zippy" in Lakeland by P Kaufmann.

    Really loved this tutorial. Was absolutely enough info in my opinion. I agree slipcovers can usually be more "forgiving" and learned a lot from your trial and error approach. With that being said, this was WAY too much work. I would be DONE after ONE. I respect this trade so much and can't bring myself to commit to 6 chairs!

    Your tutorials are so informative. I did my first piping project after watching your video. I think my dining room chairs would look so great with that style chair cover. Thank you!

    I've seen some slip covers made without piping. Is piping necessary or do you think that step can be skipped? I can see how it's valuable in your video for having an edge to follow when attaching the skirt, etc. Any thoughts are appreciated as I start to plan my own chair cover adventure!

    I need one to cover the back too 😢, do you have a way to make a slipcover for the whole chair?

    In regards to the area where you crossed the piping, how did you sew over the bulk?

    When you were pinning and sewing, your hands were in the way..im not trying to be difficult, It’s just that for me, I’m a visual learner. If I can’t see a step clearly, I panic. Lol

    Very good tutorial however I think you should have pointed out that the gathered skirt piece should be pregathered before stitching onto the seat piece- experienced seamstress can just wing it and gather as they see but this can be a huge problem and not come out evenly if you don’t pre gather the skirt ruffle according to the circumference of the seat edge-top.

      Good point! I have made lots of slipcovers and have done it both ways, but it's easier to gather and sew it first if you're not used to working in a freeform way!

    I have the same chairs but want them in a light color mines are gray. I don’t know how to reupholster and wants to try pairing them. Have you even painted fabric?

    • @missmustardseed
      @missmustardseed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have and it can be done. It is a short cut that can damage the foam and batting underneath, but if you just don't like them as they are, then go for it!

    Am I the only one annoyed because I can't see what she's cutting? She is telling us she's cutting at an angle but no camera view?!?!? I love Miss-Mustard-Seed-everything, but I truly expected a better "tutorial" than this. I really wish you had the camera closer for the whole thing. I will have to find another tutorial on someone else's page to see how the cutting works. I'm a visual person and have never made a slipcover.

      Sorry about that! I am almost always filming by myself and I didn't take the time to set up the camera closer. I'll do that next time.
