    Those were the days my friend I thought they'd never end
    On the bus since Watkins Glen
    God, I miss the energy of those upcoming tours..
    I tried to never let life get in the way.
    Now at 65, I have beautiful memories, u- tube & a bit more than "a touch of grey" and nothing left to do but smile , smile, smile. ✌

    Just stumbled onto this. No particular importance except to me personally - that night was my first Dead show. I remember sitting on the sidewalk waiting to get in and telling the people I was with that I just wanted to hear Casey Jones and Truckin' because those were the only two Dead tunes I knew (or at least I knew were Dead songs). Everyone told me not to get my hopes up because neither one with in the rotation at that point, but they opened with a rockin' Casey Jones and Truckin' was the centerpiece of the second show. I was on the bus from that day forward...

      @rm1133 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ray S. What a first show. Best Casey Jones ever played. Jerry forgot the lyrics, which led to that extended jamming. Extremely rare Dupree's as well. This was a legendary show and translates to the recording.

    • @ramboorider1
      @ramboorider1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +rm1133 Yeah, it was a great show, although in the list of memorable '77 shows doesn't get as much mention as if they'd stuck it in, like '79 when it would have been THE show... My second show was Eugene a few month later on 1/22/78 - THAT was the legendary show, possibly the best they ever played post-hiatus. I saw a lot of really good shows over the years, but nothing like that Eugene show. I could tell you stories about that night too - there was some seriously weird (and good) mojo in the hall that night. The unanticipated meet ups and coincidences just kept coming. Like a guy friend of mine meeting a woman and they were SURE they knew each other, but it turned out his twin brother and her twin sister had been a couple the year before for a few months and they'd met each other's twins but never each other. And two first cousins from opposite sides of the county who'd never met but just ran into each other that night and figured it out. That was just in my small group of friends / acquaintances during the set break. And then there was the second set...

    • @rm1133
      @rm1133 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray S. Yes, that was another legendary show. "Close encounters" sounds fitting based on your stories. One of the best sounding shows of '78. You truly witnessed 2 historic ones for your first two.

    • @ramboorider1
      @ramboorider1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ray S. My next two were really solid shows too, but I thought they sucked at the time, because my expectations were so high from those first two. San Diego and Pauly Pavillion the two shows immediately before they closed Winterland. Thought they were really bad, but the tapes hold up real well...

    • @InfamousMedia

      Ray S. It’s the BEST feeling when you get to hear the songs you wanted. I saw Johnny Mayer 4 or 5 years back; the group of us was 6-7 people and before the show we all said one song each that we wanted to hear. Johnny played all 7 songs we wanted 🙏

      That's why he became a demigod to people. When you're all tripping and there's a guy who doing as much or more than you but he is in complete control of himself and the whole situation it really gives you sense of trust and whatnot.

    Was Bill Walton standing in the center at this show? He was on the Blazers. I guess this was the Paramount Theater or the Memorial Colesium. First to hear him talk of Egypt wow. The Paramount hosted many great shows. Deads first show in Portland was at the Masonic Hall 1967 currently part of the Art Museum on PSU campus.
