The late great Left Eye! She was a force. Donell's song was on the radio just yesterday. He's a true talent.
This song reminds me of the day my mom passed away. We found out and had go gather the siblings. When we were all together we were all distraught and couldn't find the strength to move. Its a bit of a blur but the tv must have been on in the background and this song came on somehow it pulled us together. Not sure how long we had been sitting there but by the end of this song we had found the strength to get up, leave the room and do what needed to be done. I will always remember the feeling when hearing this song as it was like getting an injection of calm and strength. We joke that mom put it on for us from beyone. Its bittersweet but also a tune.
I forgot how much I missed Left Eye, 😥 RIP to our sister.

This song is one of my jams! I love Donell's music and he has written and produced songs for other R&B acts including Usher [and yes that was Usher in the video as well as some other acts well known acts that were popular at the time). I have to say Left Eye's rap verses are my favorite in this song...it's just something about those bars that make the song for me!

I agree with your recommendation of "Rosa Parks" by Outkast, and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. Two amazing songs by amazing artists! I was in elementary school when Bonnie Tyler released "Total Eclipse of the Heart," and was in my mid to late 20s when "Rosa Parks" was released. I worked at a record store during college, in the early to mid 90s, so I got to listen to, and be around to experience some amazing music! I'll never forget where I was when I heard Kurt Cobain committed suicide, and when TuPac passed away, after being in the hospital for a few days. So thankful I was born in the Generation X generation (hence my screen name, Jen X!)
