Ten years on from when you created this video.... I just watched it, took mental notes (hair into divisions, lots of hair spray!!), and created a fabulous "do" for my 93 yr old mum - using her 1950's rollers & pins - during lockdown here in Melbourne, Australia. Thank You! We made her day!
Yeah, some people want curls however, big hot rollers are for that 90s blowout big hair volume. Some people just want smoothing volume and lift they don’t want curls.
I'm a hairdresser myself and brushing it out is a technique used to relax the hair. The point of using valcro rollers for curling (you can use them to straighten too) is to achieve a subtle soft curl and volume as shown :) if your interested in getting tighter curls, look at tutorials using either a wet set, hot rollers (although this is still fairly soft and not recommended for all hair types) or a curling wand/ghd :)
I have natural curly hair but i'm interested in makes them stick together more instead of looking like spaghetti curls. Do you think rollers are useful for my situation?
I have been contemplating hot rollers and am curious which type of hair they work on. I've got thick wavy hair that's frizzy now that it's going grey. I'd like soft curl and to kill the frizz.
i love the result! it gives a nice clean vintage look on long hair. I am surprised with the negative comments. i personally know i can't achieve that look with a blowdrier. so i really appreciate this tutorial. Thank you! i would probably need shoulder surgery if i was doing blowouts like these! love rollers!! 😍 thank you.
i love that dryer! and yes u can brush threw made curls, all depending on the affect u want. and as for volume it all depends on the angle, if its way up before rolling then u get crazy volume. that obviously wasnt what he wanted. and the smaller the rollers the more tight curl you're going to get.
there are so many different ways to place the rollers, I have a lot and very thick hair, this video give me another idea on how to place the hair rollers. I ll try it and see if it works for me. thank you.
The rollers are meant to be use with wet hair and you leave on until the hair dry would 6 hours while you doing house work. If you are going to use the heat dry might as well use hot rollers. Rollers and natural heat from your head will help the curls or volume to your hair.
Living in the "age of the flat iron", people kind of scoff at rollers now. "Rollers are for grandmas!" Well, the thing about irons (curling irons, flat irons) is they're direct heat, which causes damage over time (i.e., split ends!) So, actually setting in rollers, then sitting under a dryer (a plug in, or that "gold thing" as people are calling it) will give you either bouncy curls or straight hair depending on how you style it...without damage :) Great video!
1974Coconut,,,We had the same tube and cap in the 70's, (sounds like what you are talking about) but it hooked to a hair dryer that set on your dressing table... This one looks like it would burn up your blow dryer...
I use these rollers. They never stay without clips and the big huge ones he is using do not add curl, only volume. If you use a curling iron or hot brush just to heat the hair immediately before you roll it, you do not need hairspray or 30 minutes under a dryer. My hair is long like the model's and I start from very top front of my hairline and there is no need for all that sectioning. as others have noted, once the curls are cooled, you do NOT brush it, just finger fluff the ends and maybe brush the roots to direct the hair. On the plus side, his detailed delivery is very clear.
with curling iron and setting pin curls yes they do need to be brushed but with rollers that are especially that large who are essentially only good for creating volume you wouldn't brush them out yes..defeats the whole purpose of achieving any curl lol
That’s what I was saying! And he did it on DRY HAIR. for some barely there waves?? What was the point of rollers? If I’m going to go through the work of doing a roller set I want ACTUAL CURLS.
Hello kitty I love you hello kitty. what is 100+200? hello its me can I go now hello it's me I was wondering if you would like to dance with me it's a song I love you I love you too do you like me do you like me you like me Kitty Kitty you're so silly silly Hello Kitty Kitty also said I said I said Hello Kitty I'm a b**** Hello Kitty you are my bed you are my best friend best friend yeah that's it that's just my favorite song it's about Hello Kitty because I love Hello Kitty so that's why I love it that's all and by the way I'm going to school and they have a missing tooth and I have a missing tooth is that cool of course it is cool cuz I haven't lost a single tooth yet that's why it's so cool and by the way I'm her sister and I have a brother too but he's at school actually no he's at preschool cause she's just a baby cuz he's just a baby so yeah bye guys I love you guys
I have extremely thick hair would I be able to use 3/4 inch rollers in my hair?? Could I use a regular hair dryer on the cool setting?? After you take out the rollers can you just leave the curls as is or do you have to brush them out????
It really depends on what type of rollers you are using... and how long you heat the hair... those big rollers on long hair produces looser curls... like the hairstyle at the end of the video.... if you want tighter curls then use shorter hair rollers or flexirods.. or pin curl them... this video is more about using the hair rollers than getting curls...
This wasn't the best curling method. You shouldn't brush your hair after you've curled it, even that gently. If it doesn't create frizz at first, it'll create it as the day goes on. Trust me. & I don't see any volume at all. You should have used smaller rollers.
Yeh the technique was great but the rollers were too big for her length of hair and her hair is fine so in 2-3 hours if she's even lucky that hair will lose all and if any curl lol..personally I prefer curling with a curling iron and setting the hair in with pin curls..hair lasts much longer..
Thank you thank you thank you! I've never been able to use rollers very well because of not knowing what you taught here. I've had a lot more luck now that I know how to section it.
@hny101 I guess he's using that golden thing so that the warm air goes equally on the whole hair, but i use dryer, (im going to a hairdresser school, and its totally fine to do it directly to the hair with a dryer)
I used to have these rollers and honestly I think my hair was just too long. Even with the max size, I needed to do like 20 small segments of hair to be able to and most did not stay in well, if at all and the curl was nil. Again, in hindsight my hair was too long to really hold *any* curl so I am interested to try these again now that it's just down below my shoulders. I never understand though when ppl put all this work into curls just to brush them out like....?? Not a bad tutorial but being that I would be doing this myself, it isn't as useful watching a professional who gets to stand behind her head seeing what he's doing. I started my online search just now looking for good old fashioned hot curlers and the video I had seen years ago. I'm a disco and 80s chick. I need heat and massive hair with well-developed curls that'll last a week.
Please I have a two questions: 1* why the parts oh the hair divided are three?! 2* Is not better working with hair wet just from the begin of the work?! Many thanks :-)
1.These rollers will destroy the shaft of your hair. 2. The barrels were too big for a "curl" This size is good to straighten unruly waves 3. Always heat protect your hair, that heat contraption would def be hot inside. 4. This video is great. What NOT to do to get curls. This is nice for straightening.
@stl535stl thats because her hair is too straight and the second reason is that she just have one layer not more, with more you'll be able to see her hair curlier at the ends
You were explaining very well and then you completely skip the top part and didn't show it at all. Can you please let me know the strength of your hair spray you used during putting the rollers in the hair. Many thanks. Please reply

Rollers are not just used for curling hair they can also be used for adding volume, waves and movement.
Good
Or as I like to say smooth the hair
Her face at the end like "all this damn work and he brushed out what little curls I had"
Well they're going for a more glamorous bouncy look. If you want curls use a curling iron.
😂😂😂😂

Who's watching this 10yrs later? (2019)
He he, sent the man to the moon, still have to sleep in rollers. Ain't life a bitch.
I am! I wish I had you tube back then!

Which settings spray is good for a human wig
I recommend making the hair a bit damp, Apply the rollers and then use the heat
What was the point of doing all that work just to end up with straight hair?!
B Taylor ur the man ...hahah
Less damage to your hair. Duh.
It adds volume and slight curls
dianitamarie exactly
Exactly 😑🙄

yep I also I'm at work!
💻👿💻😖💻😒💻😂
😭💻😂💻😖💻😱💻
Everyone is saying that there's not much difference afterwards. There is but he's brushed all the curls out! I think this is lovely
All these years and I never knew about different directional rolling with velcro! Thanks Richard!
6:51 shes like, "wtf kind of curls are these?"
😂😂
YES! i was too xD
xotwod_ same reaction I had aswell 😠😡
😂😂😂
true.... she's like "let the camera turn off once and I'll shove these rollers in your ass" 😂😂😂

I appreciate the thoroughness and the detail. I could really see what he was doing.
He does remind me of David Guetta.
+Susan Herda hahaha :D

Great video!
Why didn't he show how he rolled the top section?
You're very clear. Thank you. Wasn't her hair dry when you started?
It's usually not for curls, unless you use heated rollers, it is for mainly waves and most mainly volume:)
Thank you,, I have long hair,, and don't want curls, this is perfect.
From experience....do NOT use these type of rollers for fine hair. I got them stuck in my hair and it hurt like hell getting them out.
You just don't know how to use them, just because you don't know how to use them, doesn't mean you can tell others not to use them😁
Then ignore my comment and move the fuck on.
+Teresa Bowman u suck
Roblox Queen Blue Well aren't you just a basket full of peaches.
Teresa Bowman lol u suck hair
this is the craziest machine ive ever seen!
that was typical hair dryer at the 60's and 70's, my mother had it and used it to dry hair.
1974Coconut,,,We had the same tube and cap in the 70's, (sounds like what you are talking about) but it hooked to a hair dryer that set on your dressing table... This one looks like it would burn up your blow dryer...
11 years later and this is still spot on!
Wtf her hair looks exactly the same before he put the rollers in and after he took them off

I like her hair .
there are no curls. this look could have simply been done with a round brush and a blow dryer!
Exactly

At least use a setting lotion or chi heat protectant spray to help lock in curls.
Can you do the curls at the bottom (6:51) with a round brush and a blow dryer? It probably sounds salty but I'm genuinely interested
Please what was the first spray?
"" a little bit of hairspray """

which type of spray you use on hair please mention the name
And how long you leave hairs
this condition
What hair spray do you use for firm the curls?? Thanks
Which direction did you do the top section? Wish you had showed that

wow i love ot it..thanks for sharing some ideas on how to curly the hair in a very simple way using the hair curly.☺☺☺ very nice..
Her hair's curled already, before he even starts putting the roller in...
Love using hair rollers ☺️ nice technique 😀
im very thankful in this video because i can put on rollers like a pro . so now no one will underestimate mee . :)) thankyoo :)
“They should stay” then he clips them all in lol
LOL the portable dryer is not even high end, It's by Golden Hot. LMAO
@hny101 I guess he's using that golden thing so that the warm air goes equally on the whole hair, but i use dryer, (im going to a hairdresser school, and its totally fine to do it directly to the hair with a dryer)
Wouldn't it be better if he used the curlers on wet hair and some dipity do?
@Kerli087 I may be wrong but I think it was just because of the size of the rollers.
howd he do the top one
Those curlers are hard to pull out when I use them. Maybe I need to try that technique.
I used to have these rollers and honestly I think my hair was just too long. My hair is pretty long and NEVER seems to hold a curl. The closest ive come to besides going to a salon is using a beach waver...
Wouldnt want him cutting my hair if thats the end result with curlers😂😂
Excellent teacher✨✨✨✨
I have some of those rollers and every time I try to take them out they get stuck and I have to end up ripping them out.
thankyou that really helped! im gonna try it now
he makes it look so easy
Please I have a two questions:
1* why the parts oh the hair divided are three?!
2* Is not better working with hair wet just from the begin of the work?!
Many thanks :-)
@ChocoChipification i think she was just a model, not an actual client
Thats so cool.I have one of those dryers. They work so good too.
Where do you buy those big rollers damn
whats the name of the hair dryer accessory??
1.These rollers will destroy the shaft of your hair.
2. The barrels were too big for a "curl" This size is good to straighten unruly waves
3. Always heat protect your hair, that heat contraption would def be hot inside.
4. This video is great. What NOT to do to get curls. This is nice for straightening.
can you connect the head tube thing to your tumbledryer?
can you curl wet hair or is that way to difficult
What could be a substitute for hairspray
i like how he takes time to comb the ends of the hair onto the curler by hand lol so cute XD
I like the way it looks
rhkugtgeu6jur
I could have did that with a curling irion and a styling brush...
What is the work of the spray?
@stl535stl thats because her hair is too straight and the second reason is that she just have one layer not more, with more you'll be able to see her hair curlier at the ends
@punkprincessv With rollers daily it's not too labor intensive or troublesome
does heat protectant actually protect your hair from heat?
I need one of those contraptions. Where do I get one?
Thank you! God bless 💓
should your hair be wet before you apply the rollers?
Thank you so much ❤
What about doing this with wet hair and letting them dry naturally? I bet you get massive curls.
@kariiiinaxoxo he wasnt going for a tight curl it was supposed to be loose
What if my hair drier attachment catches on fire? With all the hairspray and crap?
where I can get the cap for hair that is used to put the air gun, thanks
I know this video was ment on how to use the rollers, but the roller suppose to make some curls and i didnt seen any curls there
where do u get one of those thingies?
Buy some of the comments I see a lot of people don't know much about hairstyles
Which hair spray using you
Hair should be wet or dry?
Love your accent!
Yes g
I didn't know David Guetta was a hairdresser as well
It's so crazy right 😮😂
what hair spray to use???
You were explaining very well and then you completely skip the top part and didn't show it at all. Can you please let me know the strength of your hair spray you used during putting the rollers in the hair. Many thanks. Please reply
better with wet hair, keep them until until the hair is dryed, preferbaly over night then in the morning take them out and you'll end with soft curls!
2020 ehmm😳 only me alright
I love how classy this looks :]] Thank you :]]
Yes g
