Am I the only one who gets sad context related to Chandler's inability to cry? He had a harsh childhood linked to his parents toxic marriage and divorce. He didn't experience parental love, he faced romance rejections all his life. He often used humour as a defense mechanism when he feels tensed, nervous or sad. He cried only when it comes to his friends: Ross and Rachel patching up, when Ross buys Phoebe a cycle, when he proposed, and when Ross says he wants both Joey and Chandler as best men. For Chandler, his friends are his family. Edit: thanks for all the likes. Another edit: just saw couple of comments I found laughable. The idea that " _men showing emotions/feelings or crying is loss of masculinity or jackass_ " is as ancient as Harappa civilisation. If you stand by that then in the name of Monica Geller, "you're dead inside." Another edit: men can cry all they want, its a human emotion. Period! Zombies are more humane than men☕️ who still argue that "crying is inversely propotional to masculinity."
Very well put. I think that some people, when they struggles so much in life, crying becomes harder to do because that’s all you ever feel deep inside, that it becomes meaningless, so instead, you have no emotion, no expression but indifferent.
That habit of not crying is really hard, coz people expect you to cry in certain situations and you don't cry, it gets really awkward difficult to manage
what I don't think any of them get is that his childhood was so screwed up he just built up a tolerance to crying of course ross and rachels relationship is so sad and toxic it made him cry his eyes out
As someone who is also ‘not a crying kinda guy’, I completely got this! Yes I can feel sadness, I just don’t really cry. It’s a defence mechanism for those that are the same. The only real issue I have is that, when in a situation that crying would be acceptable, I laugh instead, it’s not that I find the situation funny, it’s just what I assume is my emotional defence system kicking in and counteracting it.

Being at a funeral and having to bite down on your tongue so hard to cause enough pain in order to stop yourself from laughing, despite the feelings of grief and sadness you have on the inside, leaves you feeling like absolute c**p.

After this episode some event (I don't remember which) makes him cry and after that he cries at every little thing like a crybaby because all his emotions just start working and that's why he cries at those events that yu mentioned

He cried in the vet's office (s4e22). Phoebe made him cry (s4e14), which was then recanted (s5e14 Uncut). He then cried when Ross gave Phoebe her first bike (s7e9). And then again when Rachel left for France (s10e16).
