- I wanted to review my KTM 890 adventure from a 63 year old rider point of view. I sold my T700 to purchase this bike and have no regrets.

Similar story for me. I'm also 63 and had a 1090R that I was starting to feel uncomfortable riding due to it's weight and height. I sold it and bought a T7 thinking that would be lighter and easier to handle. As it turned out I continued to worry about tipping over, and missed the power, better suspension and fuel range of the 1090. I sold the T7 and bought a 2022 890R in March and quickly racked up over 5 k miles on it. The thought of tipping over no longer even enters my mind, and I miss nothing about the 1090. I absolutely love the 890!
Isn't the 890 R taller than the T7?
@@csiautodetail , nope. They are both about 34.5. The way the 890R carries the fuel is a game changer. It feels at least 25lbs lighter than the T7.

Nearly 2" lower seat, I think, on the 890S.
The 2023 S is a better overall bike than the previous 890S. Somewhat.
I had a 21S and now have 23S which is an even better bike. The front suspension is now adjustable, the bike feels smoother overall, TFT is much easier to use with clear graphics, seat is more comfy. The stock screen is better than the last (though on my 21 I put on a PUIG touring screen which was only about 1 1/2" taller than stock but took everything over my helmet, it was amazing and I was disappointed when it wouldn't fit the new bike). Quick shift and cruise control work great as do slip control and abs modes. Easy to pick up as the low tanks give a pivot point so the lift starts part way up and is less top heavy from there on than other bikes. Corners beautifully. Runs high 50s mpg.
Man I got to get out west, that's incredible riding! This bike makes sense to me , a little higher initial cost but you don't have to do anything to it really. Will be getting one soon. Happy trails from NY

These are great bikes, I thought I had to get the 890R so I did......
Despite my best attempts to get it a little bit lower......
I just get one foot down @ 6 foot tall, 33.5" inseam. Which is OK until its not, like a zero speed U Turn involving holes etc.
I did put one step softer springs ft and rear, and it still doesnt have the sag it should. I weigh 170 lbs.
It is coming up on it's first valve adj check with nearly 18,000 miles on it. It has been 100% trouble free, haven't even adjusted the chain yet. The engine makes a lot of power yes, but it is so nice and mellow yet strong at mid range, just an amazing engine.
On street the 100HP is great, it can zoom along all day smooth as can be. Cruise control is great. I can run it at lower revs all day and get 56 mpg. Gives a huge travel range.
I know the limitations of a T7, and they have their good points. I'm a KTM guy from way, way back. Like the early 80's.
Please let me know how the valves look. I am anxious about that also.
@@campandride1Spending too much time online can ruin the enjoyment of almost any bike, some people are very determined to say all KTM's are crap. They enjoy it.....if every cam went bad we would know it, there would be huge recalls.
I'm 58, just picked up a new 23 Norden 901(essentially the same bike as yours). Haven't had a chance to ride it yet (winter in Canada), but really looking forward to it after 5 years on my DR 650, which will stay in the garage for now.
You're going to love that bike. I had a t700 before this it just wasn't for me. The weight the handling the low center of gravity the suspension are all just superior. Hit me up if you ever get to Utah.
I still have my DR, but it hasnt gone out much since I got the 890R. The 890 is addicting to put it mildly.
DR's are very hard to kill. I put 51,000 miles on mine and it couldnt care less, runs like it always did and I beat it pretty darn hard.
Was it easy to add the front mudguard you have on your 890 adventure that normally comes with the 890 adventure R? It makes your standard 890 adventure look a lot better and surely is better for the bike when taking it offroad than the standard "over wheel" mudguard that comes with the standard 890 ?
I have the exact same motorcycle even the same color but I purchased mine late July in 23. Sadly I only have 900 miles on mine so far. I really like mine also. Link for the windshield and the add on upper windshield please. I put the new dunlop trailmax raid tires on mine.
Cheers. I've got a 390Adv and it annoys me the chain hitting the underside of this huge swingarm just too much making this clunky noise all the time when riding off-road. Yes, the chain is tensioned up enough. Can't do more because tensioning increases a lot when rear suspension compresses. You didn't mention it, still interested if that bothers a bit.
It turns out most of my chain slap came from the broken chain guard. For the back bolt screws in that plastic broke and it came loose and was just slapping all the time.

I get it, that is a big bike. the Japanese bikes are hard to beat for reliability. I have a bud that has all but quit riding his AT because of a couple of tip overs.

Try to change your mirrors, I notest that part of the buffeting I get on my face, came from the mirrors.

What’s the tire set up !! Love the fat front tire.
Motoz Mountain Extreme on the front with a warp9 18-in rim. I ran a pirelli MT-43 on the front for about 3,500 mi and it was really good. It was softer than the motoz. I ran about 15 lb in the pirelli I'm running about 17 in the motoz. I will let some out this week and write it some more. It's really a stiff tire. Running 18-in fatties on the front takes a lot of the shock out of my shoulders it's really good in the rocks in the sand. Back tire is the tusk to track I'm running 32 PSI in it.

Love my 890 whish I got the r but I'm still really happy. If you're looking for an exhaust wings makes a killer titanium and carbon system for about five hundred bucks. Nice review. What tires are you running
wow thatìs amazing I heard about so many reliability issue including butter cam shafts worn out after 10k miles
I'm like you on the cramped feel on this bike cause I got the same 2023 KTM 890 Adventure so I ended up setting the seat at the highest position and installed Evo 4 foot pegs that lowered them a little bit and it worked out great, and you're right, not a lot of wind protection. Oh we're the same age by the way👍
That's a good idea but I wouldn't be able to touch the ground. I've got to try some Lower pegs.

I feel it will be good. I have over 10,000 mi on the bike and plan on taking it in for the 18,000 mi valve check while it's still under warranty. I should have 18,000 mi on it late summer 2024 and we will know for sure.

Hi Rob, I have your GPS mount and will do a review on it this week. I love it.
The front tire is an 18 inch trial tire mounted on a rim made by warp 9. I have run it now over 1500 mile and love the way it soaks up the rocks and sand. Not a great highway tire although it does ok. I don't ride more than 75 mph on it. Three day ride coming up this weekend and I will leave it on .
Nice review and bike. I have new 790 also not R model. When you say they tweak suspension, you mean only back shock adjustment or? As you can't do nothing in front at least without extra know how. Thanks and many happy miles 🤘

It is weird but it's sure good on the sand.
