Am honored that I saw this show back in 1989 (second row seats $50!). Unbelievable beautifully, visually STUNNING and all players SUPERB! Robert Altman directed a filmed version that was shown on PBS.
lo..wait JUST one second HERE! LINDA and her entrance line 01:15-01:24..SING!!!! Both legendary pioneers of R&B/Blues. The awesome Ruth Brown and Linda Hopkins....sheer magic do ya hear me? YES!!!! Love them.
Here is a great lady and inovator and a good friend from the sixties when I met her in Junior high with her son ronnie. She was very nice. She knew how to make you feel special.
This was just good solid entertainment right here from ... well I see 3 talents on that stage but wouldn't be surprised if there's more backstage somewhere. Feel like this is the kind of performance to show folks looking to get into acting and/or singing and/or theater because we see TWO different styles to one song. Both impressive, both different, it would help to drive a point to newcomers that there just isn't ONE WAY to do something.
I saw this on PBS in 1993, and I've been searching for it ever since. I fell in love with the vaudville style performances and especially Linda Hopkins. I actually ran into her twice in the same month in 1998! As a writer, I hope to honor these fantastic performers one day by creating a work that helps younger audiences (you know the twerkers and krumpers) to appreciate the roots of their music and dance.
@@yellowlight2563 Of course. :) In fact, in June of 22', the non-profit I work with produced a show that highlighted the history of The Cotton Club and The Savoy in 1920's Harlem. Our youngest actor was 15, and the cast had a blast portraying historical greats. So yes, progress.
Priceless.... most definitely... a must see, love these most talented ladies.... LEGENDS!!!! Ruth Brown and Linda Hopkins fantastic, I truly loved it... thanks!! Mx Happy Birthday Ms. Linda*
I have seen the show in Amsterdam in 1995 (with Melba Joyce as one of the leading ladies). I enjoyed every minute of it and I still play the CD frequenly. I still don't understand why the theatre was only half full!!
She's still with us, but not living in California anymore. I hear she's happy, though. It's been a few years now since a stroke ended her ability to perform, but it didn't end her zest for life.
A couple of strokes have left her unable to perform, although she is still aware of everything. She's living somewhere out of California now, in a care facility. Not sure which state, but I'm told she's happy.
Oh yeah.....i was there in New York, i thin it was at the Minskoff Theatre 1991. Linda is not only an outstanding performer with an amazing voice, she is also one of the most symathic persons i have ever met. We became friends, after a concert at the Jazz Festival in Bern. We met a few times and i still remember when i went shopping with Linda in Bern. After shopping, we had a few drinks together - Linda allmost missed her performance that night:)
The very BEST BROADWAY show ever produced... just love the memory of sitting in the audience. They tore the house DOWN!!!! 2021
Ruth Brown won the Tony award ,but I prefer Linda Hopkins performance!!!
Ruth Brown's face is an absolute scream! This is a real gem from both ladies.
Did anyone notice @5:00 what was said 😂 this was just majestic! No excessive keyboarding, nobody in any back room pulling strings; just pure talent!

Linda Hopkins just celebrated her 89th birthday here in Los Angeles last night! Amazing woman of entertainment!
Wow, did she?! I love Linda Hopkins man! I hope she is well and STILL singing.
She's still with us, but not living in California anymore. I hear she's happy, though. It's been a few years now since a stroke ended her ability to perform, but it didn't end her zest for life.
where is she living now? Healthwise how is she?
