Gosh I had this album in college in the late 80s and used to play it on my car stereo commuting back and forth. Carefree wonderful days in a simpler world! It's great to hear it again!
In 2011, I performed Nell Carter's role for the Baltimore Black Theater Alliance. Now I know I can't sing but I did my best. It was some experience. A lot of pain for me though.
Could someone please upload footage of Nell Carter winning her Tony award for this show? I remember it and would love to see it again. Hers seems to be the only Tony acceptance speech from the 1970s that someone hasn't put on here. Thank you.
We had such fun back in the day. I often took my out of town rich guy friends to see this show. It was always a treat and a wonderful evening. Who could EVER get tired of Nell, Andre, Ken and that great music?
Outstanding performance! Take a bow because they took most of the awards this evening! Other performances had so much going on....but this cast was just 5 and simple, and they was the best and topped all thee others....just sayin'
They gave a wonderful performance and are a very talented cast, but "Ain't Misbehavin'" didn't win the most Tony Awards in 1978. This show won just 3 awards (Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Nell Carter was Best Featured Actress in a Musical). "On the 20th Century" won 5 Tony Awards (Best Leading Actor in a Musical - John Cullum; Best Featured Actor in a Musical - Kevin Kline; Best Book of a Musical; Best Original Score; and Best Scenic Design.
I saw this live in San Francisco in 1979(?) Was so excited to see Nell Carter in person...and she was sick, the understudy went on. I was so pissed! But still enjoyed it. RIP Ms. Carter.
Oops--was typing previous post on Ipad and hit done by mistake. I was saying that this was one of the best Bway shows. Great music, huge talent on stage...grand memories of applauding until my hands were raw
Do it and be confident. If you don't get a big part it's okay. Being a performer you take any role they offer you. No small parts, just small minded performers. Wish you the best of luck.
Thanks so much! I've performed in many shows and I have gotten small roles before and one of my directors one time told me if you treat it like a small role then it will be a small role.
It was a different version of the show, shorter, not full-length. Also, they didn't have Irene Cara sing as much as Charlayne did later, because Irene Cara was promoted mostly as a dancer early in her career. Irene Cara didn't become famous as a singer until after she was cast in Fame. Coco was originally just a dancer, and Irene Cara won the part... but when the producers heard her sing they had the part re-written, and she was the breakout star of the film.
RIP Amelia McQueen (Jan. 6, 1952 - Oct. 3, 2020).

Never get tired of seeing this show 🍾🥂❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was a little kid when this play was on Broadway. I remember the TV commercials for it and always wanted to see it. Such a talented cast!

Classic. Scores, performers of today...are just not cut from the same cloth. Thank you so much for sharing!

Nell Carter (in purple); gone, but, not forgotten.
Missed very much
RIP 🌹
I would say my all-time favourite musical show.
The revival of Ain’t Misbehavin’ with the Pointer Sisters was the first show I ever saw. It’s great to see this performance from the 70s
I love this so much! 🤗😁
Wow Charlayne Woodard was a cutie!
I swear that she never ages.
Great performance! Love this clip! Nell was tiny here. Charlayne Woodard sang ("White Boys") w/Nell Carter in the big screen version of Hair.
LOL Tiny?? No, Nell Carter was never "tiny" in the true sense of the word.. maybe she was less obese here, but, she was never "tiny ".
She is so pretty
What a KNOCKOUT performance.'
I also love that all of these performers are still working (Nell will always be remembered).
Thanks for posting this!

Upon closer examination, the light-skinned woman is Armelia McQueen; she played Dee, The Barber, in " Action Jackson!!"

Charlayne Woodard from The Fresh Prince of Belaire.
Yes that was her😎😎😎
They're having upcoming auditions for this and I may go for it! I'm a soprano so I'm hoping to get Armelia since she's a soprano.

No
Is that Sister Peg from Law and Order???
yes. her name is Charlayne Woodard. look her up on imdb. she has done many tv shows and movies that you would notice her from.
Irene Cara had Charlayne's part before Bway. I would have like to have seen that
