    Why isn’t adult social care nationalised? The government pay a ridiculous amount for it why should they be paying private companies profits? It’s madness. Local councils are spending 10’s of thousands of pounds a WEEK for some INDIVIDUAL peoples social care needs, which rightfully should be paid for by the state when a person can’t afford it. Why aren’t the government providing this at cost? Just more draining of the public state wealth straight into the pockets of super wealthy companies and people.

    The flag thing is ridiculous, because on the one hand, I really don't care, but on the other hand, from a design perspective, I really hate it and think it clashes with the shirt. However, I'm going to get over that trauma by not buying an 85 quid shirt made for 3 quid in Indonesia. Extreme, I know.

    As a wrinkly, I sympathise with all your woes, Ava. Don't fall into the trap (set by those who want to exploit an inter generational divide as a diversion from the real issues) of blaming the elderly for their relative good fortune. You have the right to all the benefits enjoyed by my generation. That's what you should be demanding as an entitlement. Hopefully, as political leaders emerge from your age group that will happen. What's really required is a revamp of capitalism running amok.
    Btw, I can tell you from experience that a considerable wedge of our time and money is going to compensate for our children and grandchildren's shortfalls, not on luxurious lifestyles.

    • @joepiekl
      @joepiekl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Agreed. I think more and more older people are seeing their kids struggle, and realizing (and having to pay for) the problem. It's kinda like Brexit. It was all pretty theoretical for a while, but people are starting to experience that drop in living standards and public opinion is shifting even amongst the older generations that voted for it. Having said that, the fact that no political party feels able to drop the triple lock on pensions shows you that they still overwhelmingly expect pensioners to vote for their own interests (which to be fair, in a cost of living crisis with insane energy costs, who can blame them?).

      Exactly. I'm 33, single parent working 45 hours a week.
      My mum is in her mid 60s and working in the NHS. My landlord is upping my rent to an exorbitant amount, more than double my mum's mortgage, on a smaller property in a less desirable location. The rent they want is almost half my (also nhs) wage.
      So she is helping me out by taking money out of her house so I have a deposit to buy a house, in the area I am in now, where the mortgage would be half the rent I'm paying. So while she has more wealth than me, she's not using it to live the life of Riley. She's using it to stop her daughter and grandson from becoming homeless.
      I'm very fortunate that I have a parent who is willing and able to help me out in this manner. Many many working people my age are just, well, fucked.

    I was born in 88, I paid the lower amount of student loan and also maintenance loans. When it was agreed we were told the interest was locked around 1% - I believe the loans were then sold to SLC and the interest rates sky rocketed.
    The main issue is that there’s no competition, you can’t choose to move your loan to a company with better rate so SLC has no incentive to lower their rates.

    Peter Bone has no reason to keep the 'severence pay' - it's not actually severance.
    MPs are entitleds to a payment designed to help them transition back into normal employment because their jobs can be revoked suddenly (seriously just have to ignore the double standards for a moment...) and are therefore seen as being potentially too precarious in nature to attract potential MPs.
    As he is old enough to now recieve the pension, there is no qualification for the seperate transition payments.
    I apologise for not remembering the technical terminology for the payment scheme, but it's all freely available to look u if anyone cares.

    As of right now the current government has either provided nothing for me and my family, or actively been made more difficult as a direct consequence of their decisions.
    But hes also right about how my vote isn't exactly going to be the game changer that I'd like it to be, Kier Starmer's Labour party is better than the current but its absolutely not what I want or need.

Due to being flat footed and a tendency to push down harder on my left foot, I unfortunately have to replace my Nike's roughly every 6 months due to them being worn in. I'm not sure I agree with your characterization of the state being 'there for you' years ago. Look at some of the pictures of Glasgow tenements in the 1970s. They look like they were taken in Victorian times. Where pensioners sense of entitlement comes from (not unreasonably) is that they've paid national insurance their whole life, which they were told is a pension, and so expect to be able to claim that when they retire. The issue, of course, is that they were never really paying into a pension, they were just paying tax (which paid for the pensioners of the time) and being promised the taxes of future generations in return. And this becomes a difficult prospect when wages haven't increased in real terms in years, and you're cutting services for younger people left, right and centre. The triple lock is fine in principle, but you can't on the one hand guarantee increases for pensioners, while on the other hand refuse an equivalent pay rise for nurses, teachers, police, etc, never mind people on benefits. Either there's not enough money or there is (and there is, it just isn't being collected from the right places). If there isn't, then why should pensioners be immune to that economic fact?

    I think benefits should be linked to the median salary, personally. I also think that MP's salaries should be too. That would create the incentive where if politicians want to elderly vote, they have to create good opportunities for working people. It would also mean that we don't end up in a situation, which is inevitably going to happen if we carry on as we are, where the taxes raised from people working can't cover the cost of the pensions of people who have retired. Long-term, it would be better to make pensions a compulsory government scheme that you pay into throughout your life, and the money is kept until you retire. Then when people say "I've paid into my pension all my life" it would actually be true. But because it was never set up like that in the first place, it would be hard to make the shift without cutting off an entire generation of pensioners.
    At the moment, we have a system where people pay into the system, it's immediately spent, and they and are promised a cut of the tax paid by future generations. Which is a tricky proposition when future generations think that, "actually, you've spent the last 20 years voting for parties that have destroyed our side of this social contract, so why should we pay for you?" And I recognise that's a bad place to be in, because in reality, it's not the individual pensioners that have screwed us over, and it's not even one party.

    As a person who cycles a minimum of 100miles a week. Get a saddle that fits you well (often a narrow saddle that just sits on the bones will actually be way more comfortable long term), wear decent padded cycling shorts (cheep ones will chafe) and then just do lots of hours on the bike and build up some arse calluses and you will be golden. No matter how long my rides are now never get any bother down there.

    • @tomtative

      I bought £3 padded cycling shorts from Sports Direct once for a 2000km trip (actually bought 9 pairs so I could wear them without underwear and didn't have to worry about washing until the break points). They were honestly fantastic. No chafing at all. I did have the hard seat though like you said. Got a bit of aching on the arse bone though.

    • @ashaw1016
      @ashaw1016 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joepiekl Ah fair play to you. I've bought cheep ones in the past (admittedly not sports direct) and they had a seam on them that rubbed, they also chaffed my nips up loads (bib shorts ofc, I don't just wear them hiked up to my tits)

      Also for blokes I've found saddles with a relief channel help (like a bit missing in the middle). Can help with the numb dick problem you can get from sitting on your perineum.
      (I'm aware I'm not selling cycling well with talks for arse calluses and numb nobs)

    People get too worked up over modified flags, I honestly don't care if people modify the Welsh flag. There is a Welsh LGBT group that has the Red Dragon in front of the rainbow flag, the flag is actually very good at representing what their group is.
