What's interesting about how this color scheme is based on that of the truck that the sky spy scanned, is that the truck was originally colored the normal OP red (edit: it was actually more of an orangey-red). The animation reel became discolored over time, leading to later reuses of it looking more yellow. Which, in a way, means that yellowing is not just a TF toy problem, but a TF media problem as well.
I think it was always a little different, no? Every version I’ve ever seen, including those using the original broadcast masters, had it as dark orange but never straight up red same as OP
@SixoTF Yes, I think you're right actually; my mistake. I had remembered hearing somewhere that it was originally the same red as Optimus - which made sense at the time, because why would the animators bother picking a different color for that one bit of animation - but now I can't find any confirmation of that. Still, as you said, it was much more orange than ML Sentinel is, so the animation definitely became discolored.
So the red faceplate is a reference to the IDW Sentinel, and apparently the yellow is due to the Japanese version of the broadcast having that weird kind of greenish tint compared to the original series that carried over to Scramble City and Headmasters.
"A modern e-hobby exclusive" is the perfect distillation of what this guy is. Just doing its own thing with fun new colors, not much more I could ask for!
When you put Tigertrack next to it, I realized that a lot of G1 toys had a yellow version to go with a red version, such as Bumblebee and Cliffjumper getting both colors, as well as the Lambo brothers. I wonder if this color was chosen to continue that tradition.
Wow I had no idea this was trying to reverence the truck that was scanned in G1; that’s such a fun homage but I’d love this figure even if it wasn’t homaging anything! I don’t care that some find it “pointless” I think just getting a new color scheme of this mold is cool enough, reminds me of like a long lost diaclone toy

Iirc last year in a press release hyping up the 40th anniversary, something was said about CAD recreations of various G1 toys being made for merchandising purposes (presumably stuff like Retro Prime, Missing Link, Hot Wheels Prime, and the Optimus Skeeball game at the Hasbro arcade) so I suspect the trailers having the same issue can be traced back to that
Yeah in this case they have made new toolings of the trailer for both Missing Link and Retro (separate moulds) but there’s little doubt they share a CAD origin imo

Seeing him next to the Shining Magnus cab really makes me wish they had just done the head in the same blue as the fists and legs! Although he does look much better in your video than the initial photos (or I’m just getting more used to it now). Hope the Missing Link line stays around for a long time!
This Sentinel feels a lot more working class. I dunno if it’s the denim jeans blue, the Construction yellow, or just the utility of the G1 truck mold. He seems nicer than most Sentinels
Great video! Man, I had ALL those E-Hobby repaints back in the day. Really regret having to sell them off. Hopefully they release some more Missing Link in those colors again!
Do you have any clue why the grill has an extra line that's off center? It's bugged me since the first version of the toy. Sill love it of course its not even close to a deal breaker
I know it's referencing a bad colour transfer of the truck that was scanned in episode 1 or something but it would look so much better with the faceplate red/orange being used on the legs and hands instead of blue, IMO.
I really appreciate the comparison with Shining Magnus, does help sell that this guy isn't *completely* yellow, even if... he leans that way more than orange from the looks of it. It's a little frustrating since orange would match the cartoon truck better AND by happenstance Marvel Sentinel Prime, and I just don't care for yellow much honestly, but I'm still feeling a pull for such a novel repaint...

I figured the first recolor / repaint would be white for the inner robot of Gen1 Ultra Magnus, I didn't see yellow coming at all, but it looks nice. - Maybe they'll keep on reusing the Optimus Prime / Convoy mold for the white Ultra Magnus, the blue Diaclone Powered Convoy ( Ultra Magnus ), and probably a black one for a death scene 1986 movie Optimus Prime. I'd also be waiting for another Pepsi version, maybe with trailer Pepsi decos or bottle carrier trailer too.

Also how dare they make a Beast Machines reference and a toy reference in one thing, Dillo is the best reference ever made.
