      Yeah... a couple of people have said that to me. I wish I could go back and fix it, but I uploaded this video months ago. I certainly do agree and appreciate you pointing it out though. I have more axolotl videos coming soon, and I’ll definitely be more aware of the music volume in editing. I also have better equipment to film with now, too, that picks my voice up more clearly. Thanks for watching and for leaving your feedback. I hope you come back for my future axolotl videos.

    Nice information. Took a little worry away from my water temperature. We have tarantulas and tropical stuff so I keep my ac/heater at 75F degrees. This is obviously too warm for an axolotl tank. So I bought a chiller. Some people are saying this will be sufficient but some say it will only take the temperature down a couple degrees. This is so weird to me because, look at how cold a simple human window unit blows.? Lol Oh well, I hope this works!

    My Ace is 10 inches, male, has an 81L tank (17 gallons), which came with a filter that suits it (not a big current). Also a large water cooler that originally had a large water flow, so I cut holes in the tubs to distribute the force. It was left to cycle 8 weeks before I put the plants in, then we got Ace the next week. Usually the tank is 16C or 17C. I check the Ph levels 2 or 3 times a week, to keep it between 7.4 and 7.6 (Axolotl Ph levels). I don't use the lights in my tank unless I'm changing some water out- which is when Ace isn't in there. He has many hiding places, including his favourite barrel. He has mainly a pallet food, but also frozen food (worms, oysters, etc.) that's specifically for axolotls. I've also been thinking about buying some Ghost Shrimp for him

    I've had my little guy for almost a month now and while he's still young, he's about 7 inches long. I know he's eaten worms before and the second time I fed him, I gave him a large nightcrawler cut in half (first time was pellets) and he happily ate a full half, but wasn't interested in the other. Since then, he hasn't been willing to eat nightcrawlers, no matter how small I cut them up. He tries, and he's really excited to try, but always spits them back out again. Any tips?

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets
      @JeremyGoneWildPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My axolotl still to this day doesn’t like nightcrawlers either. Sometimes she will eat red wigglers but not often. She does like frozen bloodworms, but she’s so big she eats an entire cube at once, so I only feed her those a couple times a week. I also feed her sinking carnivore pellets. Hikari makes a good high quality pellet that is appropriate for axolotls. If you do decide to go with a pellet food, avoid off brand foods that contain a lot of filler, go with a high quality, high protein, carnivore pellet.

    • @propio2957
      @propio2957 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JeremyGoneWildPets what percentage would you classify as high protein? Also, he has eaten nightcrawlers before, he just won't anymore and I don't know why

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets
      @JeremyGoneWildPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe the nightcrawlers are too thick, not just too long. Have you tried cutting them the long way to make them thinner?
      The Hikari pellets I recommend are 47% protein. You don’t have to get those per-se, just get the highest protein you can find. Anything below 30% protein you should probably avoid.

    • @propio2957
      @propio2957 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeremyGoneWildPets hi, just wanted to update, I have gotten him to eat some half worms--I guess he just wasn't hungry enough before. I always have my pellets on hand though, just in case, because sometimes he's only willing to eat the smaller pellets. Speaking of the pellets though, how many do you think would be sufficient for an axolotl between 7 and 8 inches long? Mine has a lot of vision problems, so I always have to drop the pellets one at a time right in front of him--he can't find them otherwise. I've been feeding him about 7-10 every other day or so (usually alternating back and forth between pellets and worms, but probably more often pellets) and I think he's a healthy weight, but I just don't know what I'm doing, soooo.

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets
      @JeremyGoneWildPets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amurry 24537 I can’t say an exact number of pellets, but when you view him from above, his head and his body should be the same width. That’s how you know he’s at a healthy weight. That’s good that he’s interested in worms now, though. That’s honestly the best diet for him because that’s what they eat in the wild.

    I don’t know if you see this or not but I’m giving it a try. I just got my axolotl a couple weeks ago. But I’m always afraid he is not okay. Today i walked in on him on top of one of the plants I thought he was dead but I gave him a soft poke and he woke up and swam back down immediately. Believe me I really try my best the water temp from my tank is always around 16-17 degrees Celsius. The PH value is around 7 to 7,5 I clean the aquarium once a week and I check the water every day. He eats very well but swims a lot. Also mine comes to the top to breathe I looked online and it seemed normal but now I’m worried. His gills are NOT curved also his tail is just straight. Tough today I noticed a very small sort of dent in his tail. The thing is with a dog or a cat you know when they are happy or sad. With a axolotl I find it very tough.. the tank is quite large for one axolotl I have 3 oxygen plants a cave couple of big rocks so he can walk over them and a very big wooden sort of statue. I just need some help if this is okay.. my axolotl is almost 3 months old

    I have a 45G tank and it has depth. Since heat rises, wouldnt that mean the bottom is cooler to where they prefer? I can never really tell what temperature the water is but it is fairly cooler than what thermostat of house says. I plan to get axolotl but temperature part worries me.

    Awesome video! I appreciate your honesty! I also like that you didn't come across like a "know it all." The ONLY thing that I can say is...your 10 gallon behind you is giving me an anxiety attack! The way the weight of it on that metal shelf is freaking me out LOL :) 🤣🤣🤣

      @JeremyGoneWildPets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Thanks for the comment! Yeah, that 10 gallon tank gave me anxiety on that shelf too. It’s not there anymore. A lot has changed in the pet room in the years since this video was made. That said, in 2021 I made a complete axolotl care guide. You should give it a watch if you’re looking up axolotl info. It’s way more comprehensive and complete.

    Will the fan helps in tropical country in a room without air conditioner? (It could get somewhere around 30 celcius)

    • @JeremyGoneWildPets
      @JeremyGoneWildPets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can’t say for sure. I keep my tropical tanks and my axolotl tank in the same room. But I don’t heat the room to tropical temperatures, just the individual tanks that need it with aquarium heaters.

    If you are opting for chilling with ice, then you should calculate the ice to water amount, i can chill my 200 liter for 3 to 4 hours with a solid 5 kg iceblock a couple of celcius and if i can keep up with exchanging the chilling elements against the thawing time i xan keep it stavle, but it is the most laborious way to do

    wait, if there are actually axolotls that completed their metamorphosis to land-dwelling isn't that a big deal? that one can be bred since it might be the evolutionary link to make more land-dwelling versions

      If the room is cool enough you don't need a fan. Some people keep them in basements, for example, and get the right temps naturally.
