I have watched it since and it was a thing of pure joy! I hadn't realised what a surprise both for the group and for the fans Tim's participation was when I recorded this, but it's awesome looking at it through that lens.

The Bass Gang is fast becoming the 4th top a cappella group, joining the current top 3! Each of the 4 members has a growing presence as well as the group dynamic you just witnessed. And they've never met face-to-face! Your great hour-long reaction shows once again that you recognize talent when you hear/see it! They were so happy and proud to collaborate with Tim. You should hop over to Peter's channel and watch his reaction to the video -- which he is seeing for the first time. He's downright giddy. Thanks for an hour of pure joy.

So glad you got this introduction to Bass Gang! I've really been enjoying their stuff, especially since they're young and crazy talented. That was Casper Fox, their manager, offering a rose to Tomi. And yes, Marwan's juice box is absolutely because he's the baby of the group.

    • @davidkreacts

I am really excited to look up more of their work - I love how each of the big groups has a different sound, and from what I've read combined with the obvious talent on display in this, they're clearly carving a space for themselves there.

My face hurts from smiling so much during this. "Is it a candlestick?" "If you listen to the base line..." Oh, my. And I can't remember the last time I heard somebody reference Running Bear, which I suspect will be totally lost on much of the audience. This is such a good time. These guys are all very talented. Each also does solo work, although I haven't dived very deeply into it. I think my favorite of the other group videos is their cover of Imagine Dragons' Bones. It's almost unbelievable that they have never met in person, although they are planning to remedy that this summer. You definitely should watch Peter's reaction to his first time seeing the complete video. He was positively giddy about working with Tim. Great reaction. Have a good weekend and scratchies to Timmy.

Haha - glad you enjoyed. And you know me - happy to bring obscure references in at random yet appropriate moments! ;-) I'm looking forward to checking out more of TBG and the solo work of the members - there's a lot for me to dig into, it seems. I have since watched Peter's reaction, and it was wonderful to see. :-) Timmy says: "Meow!"

  • @Tark-qs4mu
    @Tark-qs4mu ปีที่แล้ว +11

Peter was so very geeked to be working with Tim Foust. As you can see when you watch the video Peter was having difficulty not smiling every time he started doing ANYTHING for this video, just because he knew who he was working with, other than the usual very talented gentlemen he always works with. I thought poor Peter was going to blow up when I watched his reaction to this video, he was so excited. It's absolutely hilarious, and so sweet.
Yeah, the whole thing with the wine...I thought the same as you, at first. Which, of course, made the whole juice box thing funny, in and of itself. However, to later find out the reason for the juice box made it even funnier. Now it's a bit of an "inside joke" that all fans of the Bass Gang can share together. Other people won't get it right away, they'll think it's cute, which it is, and move on. But, we'll always know ;).
You asked who the "primary" arranger was for the Bass Gang? There really isn't one. Each member of the group can, will, and does arrange, depending on what song they're tackling next. They even made a point to showcase each members different arranging styles by doing one video each, and letting us all know who did which when they released them. Super effective, a lot of fun, and let us get to know each member of the group much, much better.
This video had to have been so much fun for them to shoot. Especially Peter. I feel for him, really I do...but only so much. After a certain point you just have to laugh at him, and watch him bounce off the walls with joy. Your reaction, as always, is about as much fun to watch as the original video. I knew that, when you got around to this one, you'd see just how much joy they took in making music together the way they do. And to think, they've never been able to work together in person. Just online, doing everything remotely. It's truly amazing what talented people can accomplish when they set their minds to it.
Oh, I almost forgot! A suggestion. Let's go to the complete other side of the spectrum with the Bass Gang next time...Finders Keepers. You'll love it!!

    • @davidkreacts

I have since watched Peter's reaction too - such a genuine and awestruck moment for him, I loved it - and hadn't realised what a moment this was for them (or how much of a secret they kept Tim's participation at first).
Love how versatile they are as a group - that's awesome.
Agreed both re Peter's excitement and what amazing things can happen remotely. I hope the meet-up they are planning happens - that would be really cool!
Thank you as always for your kind words!

Bobby Bass is Bobby Waters, and Nicole is his sister. She is majoring in video in college. Both Marwan and Tomi have 6 octave ranges. Marwan usually does the beat boxing and may duplicate himself. Love the drumsticks dropping out of his hair. Glad you enjoyed it so much!

Great reaction & analysis! How much fun was that! Love having Tim sing with the Bass Gang. Tim is the growl master but he can also sing high. I have always liked this song done first by the late B.J. Thomas in 1968. It was later done by Jonathan King in 1971 & Blue Swede in 1974 who both added the "ooga chaka" part. Can you believe none of these guys were even together. That's pretty impressive!

Really nice to see you reacting to this!I always so enjoy your breakdowns because I hear more through your ears. Theory is something I was never exposed to before watching reactors such as The Charismatic Voice, Jennifer G., and yourself. This is such a nice arrangement and your breakdown helps me enjoy it even more, so thank you!
The Bass Gang: "We need a tenor for our next song."
    "How about tum Foust?"
    ROFL!!
All of their songs are so worth watching. My personal favorites are Centuries and Iris. I'm certain that one of your big requests is VoicePlay's new cover of Valhalla Calling, and I'll jump on that bandwagon. It's amazing and has some epic bass as well as other surprises!
Peter's reaction is adorable! It's his first viewing of the finished video and he's just giddy about the collab. Mortius, Kazandra Brock, Jennifer and King Family Reacts all got pre -release, untitled videos with no reference to Tim, and their reactions were also amazing! Hugs! 💙💜❤

I loved Peter's video, and I've seen Mortius' and Jen's reactions. Still need to watch the other two. The infectiousness of this song, arrangement, and grouping of people is so obvious in how much everyone enjoys it!

Dearest David, if I ever have hinted to you that I'm not that keen on your weekly choice, you have this time compensated me more than manifold.
'Hooked' has been on my personal top 5 list since 1974 and Bass Gang does it justice. I'm not prepared to put them over Björn, mainly bc I've lived closely with his version for next to 50 years and you don't change such a thing easily. And I'm very fond of Björn Skifs as an artist. What a twist/irony that I sent you a link ft him today! It's Blue Swedes, not being Elvis. People get mixed up by that, I think. The Swedish name of the band being Blåblus translates Blue Shirt( workmen's wear) which didn't make sense. Hence a change.
Bass Gang has become favourites after me being introduced to them, following reactions to both Peter B and Mortius and I'm now following all BG, together and separately.
    They all have awesome soloworks.
All the guys can beat box, but I believe Marwan is the best of them. (Peter coming close). He's a wonderkid, only 19 by now. He hit B0 at 18.,maybe already at 17, in Emperor's New Clothes. He has edited and mixed their earlier works but by now all of them put their hands in. In an album they usually take responsibility for one song each. Making the arrangement, laying down the storyboard, choreography and laying down the beat boxing, then sending it out the others to start their own recordings. The one responsible is often doing the mixing and editing, but lately they have started using outside help. Peter is capable of mastering, he's a sound engineer as well as an opera singer.
Nicole Waters is the sister of Bobby Waters aka Bobby Bass. She was brought in on their last album, having some kind of film education, sorry don't know exactly what.
It's a fact that Marwan loves bell chords in his arrangements and now they're all using them more. At the end you see Casper Fox kneeling before Tomi P, pretenting to propose. He's the business manager of BG but an accomplished singer, a tenor, in his own right. Originally Danish, he's moved to Czechia to live near Tomi P and learn bass technique and subharmonics. He has his solowork too and have done many collaborations with members of BG, often Tomi P or Marwan. Well worth to listen to as well. The tenor/ bass contrast, and now and then Casper throwing you by getting into the basement as well.
He has earned pitvipers from Peter for his bass notes, but normally sings way above Tomi at his highest. Check out Marwan and him in Moments of Silence or his arrangement of Lions Sleep Tonight.
They all have wide ranges, but I think Tomi P and Peter can go highest, they are all working constantly to extend themselves. Tomi P has about 6 octaves.
The guys are on a fundraising to get to meet each other in real life for the very first time this summer, which I hope will make a good and creative time for them all and giving us even better content. I've pledged my part to make it happen. It's hard to believe that this is all done remotely so far.
So many thanks for this reaction.and no complaints of keeping me up late. This reaction will go on repeat like Tommy's.
Sorry for writing a novel, but you triggered all my passion in this, it could have been much, much longer.
    ❤❤😂❤❤

    • @davidkreacts
      @davidkreacts  ปีที่แล้ว

Firstly, never apologise for a novel (though it might take me longer to reply to due to my backlog).
I haven't had the chance to listen to the Björn video you sent me yet - it's been a very crazy couple of weeks - but the irony wasn't lost on me either the moment I saw your name pop up in my comments!
I love how varied their talents are, and the fact that they can all work with each other in different capacities! Having someone with a knowledge of mastering on the team is a huge help.
Wow - sounds as if there's a huge amount of satellite work around the group with their solo work and collabs as well! I've got my work cut out for me...! Appreciate the recommendations - thank you.
I am so impressed with the remote work that people are doing. It's quite extraordinary. I'm all for them meeting up though - I hope that goes through. I'd love to see what they'd come up with jamming in one space together.

Bass Gang is a new favourite, so catching up with this reaction. If you like bass voices, you might want to check out Faouzia. She's not bass of course, but a lower female voice. Moroccan born Canadian singer. Just 23 but writes most of her own songs and is very talented. She's also done a duet with John Legend, and sings an awesome version of Sting's Desert Rose. She just released a live performance video of her Fur Elise. Cheers!

To answer some of your questions, both Marwan and Peter beatbox. Nicole Waters is Bobby's sister - she's edited other Bass Gang videos. Marwan is old enough, but Muslim, so doesn't drink. The man kneeling is Casper Fox. The Bass Gang has never worked together - Peter and Bobby are in the US, Tomi's in the Czech Republic and Marwan's in Egypt.

    @chlistens7742 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Were to begin... um ok going with random thoughts hoping I get most of it
    1) The bass gang have never met in person
    2) Most the time you hear high voices it is Tomi and or Peter. Tomi has a very high whistle you will here in other videos
    3) Bobby Bass from Connecticut, Tomi P from the Czech Republic, Marwan Ayman from Egypt, and Peter Barber from Virginia.
    4) They rotate (mostly) who dose each video and each has there own channel they they make videos on.
    5) The person proposing to Tomi is Casper Fox there manager and a tenner who is doing sub harmonics as well when he dose videos on his channel.
    6) They guest show up in each others videos a lot
    7) normally when you see a 2nd or 3rd or 20th copy of them they are singing a note or such
    8) Marwan is the primary beat-box
    9) by getting into the bass gang you have hit opon a group of singers. 4 solo artists who do there own video (5 if you add casper fox)
    10) they have released 2 albums so far.”May the bass be with you” has 4 soings each arranged by a different one of them and is just the 4 of them “May the bass be with you Vol 2” is another 4 songs each with a guest artist
    11) if you want to hear them doing mainly doing non bass line singing I would recommend listing to there cover of Iris
    12) the juice box, yes Marwan is not old enough to drink and he dose the juice box shows up in Casper Fox's the lion sleeps. I would expect this to be a running gag because of how much the reactors have loved it.
    13) Next one I think you should watch to get more effect of them is “emperor's new clothes” but I have not heard one song I did not like of there
    14) expect them to all four comment on your reaction they all enjoy reactors
    15) Peter Barber watches bass gang videos like you do.. (yes he is in the band and makes some of the videos) but he dose a watch through then a comment section
    16) Nicole is Bobby's sister
    17) you like bell cords.. well Marwan dose a ton of them in all of his videos (his own and his bass gang ones)
    18) head shots poping in and out for a micro second is each of them doing the single notes as you expected
    19) when they have a guest artist they do tend to focus on there guest's range as they should
    20) Double tracking.. um they to 20+ tracking
    21) dont be surprised if you see them doing something in a future video because a reactor commented on it.. again they love reactors
    22) they are defiantly a video only group because they love making copies of themselves in videos
    23) when they plan a video out they give themselves notes like clips of them having fun or such, or give me many different copies of a line so they can splice them in to make the video mre active.
    24) Casper and Tomi live “close” to each other.
Hope you continue on there videos as well as there solo videos (and expect them to pop up in there partners videos)

  • @jonadabtheunsightly
    @jonadabtheunsightly ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's not as obvious here as in some of their other work, but the Bass Gang tends to lean heavily into the fact that, since they live on three continents and have no intention of ever performing live, there is really no downside to multi-tracking themselves. I don't happen to know about the specific point in this video you were asking about, but in terms of just how they tend to do things, it would be completely normal for several of them to be beat-boxing at the same time, while simultaneously all of them are singing bass and meanwhile all of them are also singing tenor as well. It's also normal for one of them to be singing six or seven parts at the same time for a few seconds. And yes, all four of them have crazy Geoff/Tim type ranges, though the exact details vary, especially in terms of which specific techniques they favor (vocal fry vs subharmonics vs growl notes vs ingressive phonation vs whatever other crazy stuff they get up to). They're not as experienced as VP or HF, and their arrangements reflect that, but they are still young, so a few years from now who knows what insane things they may end up doing.
I think several of them do arranging. ISTR that someone said Marwan arranged Emperor's New Clothes, and I think all four of them have their own pre-existing channels and do additional stuff beyond what they do together with the group.

    • @davidkreacts
      @davidkreacts  ปีที่แล้ว

Ah, that's interesting. I guess if you're not worried about sounding the same on stage, then that actually makes a lot of sense. Nothing wrong with being a studio band. That would definitely create a huge sound. I feel like there's a lot of very cool stuff in their future.

  • @barbarakennedy2667

How wild is it that Tim, so known as a bass, sings tenor for most of the song?

I will never cease to be amazed by the versatility and flexibility of the singers in the big a capella groups - they can do SO much! Pineapple juice is a very common remedy for me - I actually went out just after recording this and bought some! Thanks for the suggestion though. :-)

I believe (if I remember correctly from a former analysis by Peter of one of the Bass Gang's songs) that Peter also does vocal percussion. If that is true, then there is double opportunity there for Marwan and Peter to switch off for added versatility.

I'm typing this at roughly the halfway point, so I don't know if you eventually mention it, but: Tim is kind of wearing a Star Lord jacket as an homage to the use of the song in the movie.
Their manager Casper appears in a cameo "proposing" to Tomi. :)
Each of the group has arranged various pieces of music. Once you've seen more of their catalog, you'll have a feel for it. One thing both Tomi and Marwan are fond of is a huge switch from major to minor or minor to major at an unexpected point in the arrangement.
If you pay attention especially closely, you'll notice that Tim keeps up that complex bass line through most of the song.
The four of the Bass Gang have never all been in the same room. They are meeting for the first time face to face later this year thanks to their patrons and a Kickstarter campaign.

I abjectly failed to notice the jacket until I uploaded the video to YT. I mention it in the video description! :-P
Thanks for the info - appreciate it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of their work.
I didn't realise how prevalent that line is - there's a lot to pay attention to - but yes, that's very cool.
I'm very excited to hear and see what comes of them all meeting!

Marwan is something like 19 or 20 when this was filmed. So I wonder if he was drinking juice instead of wine because of the drinking age in Egypt where he lives or because he's Muslim (which I'm assuming, never hearing if he is or isn't).

It’s definitely Swede. Blue Suede belongs to Elvis.

Makes total sense - I think I've just heard a bunch of people pronounce it incorrectly.

You mentioned a lot of versions of the song, and also how GotG injected some silliness into it, but I don't think I heard you mention a truly iconic, truly bizarre version, with the silliest video imaginable: if you've never seen it, I highly encourage you to check out (not to React to, just to see) _David Hasselhoff_'s cover of this song.
That aside, wonderful video as always. :)

      I...
      ...
      What?!
I will definitely check that out. Might have to react to that - I'll see if I can ever find space for some comic relief. I've heard him sing before (some music from Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde musical), but didn't know he'd done this.

Got to love what amazing things can happen remotely - it's not easy, but the professionalism and quality on display proves you can achieve incredible things.

That video was initially released as "untitled.mp4" with a black rectangle for a thumbnail so as not to spoil the surprise. The day 1 reactions were the best, people felt so hyped like a MARVEL character appeared in a trailer or something... guess it was the case in a way, Tim's wearing the iconic jacket
