Hi there! My name is David, and on this channel, I react to videos, mostly of musical artists (with a focus on a capella).
I consider myself to be a jack-of-all-trades in many ways, and so while my analyses may not go into the extreme depths of many other reactors, I hope to be able to provide a wide range of insight, thoughts, and discussions.

Rowan really nailed his part. I haven't seen anything about who arranged Luisa's, but R&M are so talented and have so many very talented friends it could have been any one of 6 or more, including Luisa. Luisa is young, but very talented. She has been touring with Sam Barber in 2024 and was part of the group Sweet & Low that also had Tim Foust, Austin Brown, Ernie Halter, Jeffrey East and Chris Chatham as core members as well as her brother Christopher Marion from time to time. Side note on S&L - the final recording from that group was released on Friday on Jeffrey East's channel - One Last Good Time.
Thank you for another great reaction - I always appreciate your insights, whether it's into the music or the video making part of the process. I loved that Reilly and McKenzie were able to involve Luisa in the one, she's such a talented musician (and singer, on other songs).
Thanks David - Happy New Year 🎉
Probably the best version of this song! And a resourcefull video! Thanks for reacting to H+F! More, please!
I wonder if that would be called a fiddle and not a violin, given the genre of music. :)
This is so much fun. I've never seen Home Alone - yes, I know - so I probably wouldn't have caught on except for the slap in the face from Rowan. What a great performance from him. Luisa might have arranged the violin. She is an accomplished singer/ songwriter in her own right. She was a part of the short-lived, Home Free adjacent group Sweet and Low, along with her brother-in-law, Tim Foust. Happy New Year. Pets for Timmy.
Luisa Marion is the sister in law of Tim Foust (wife's sister) of Home Free
Actually both Jenika and Luisa sing as well, see link th-cam.com/video/yipkxt2AVIA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=O5e3C1MR3mjnWlVX
@@HennyvanderMeerThe whole Marion family are massively talented. Tim has said when he's with his in-laws, he's the least musically talented person in the room.
😊
It's just so sad that she STILL HAS NO CLUE OF BEING A NICE NORMAL PERSON. I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW SOMEONE COULD BE SO HATE FULL ans full of hate, THEN TURN AROUND AND PLAY VICTIM. UTTERLY DISGUSTING AND SUCH A DISGRACE. I'm embarrassed that she is from the United States......she's 43% Nigerian....she should be deported to her "Home Country" of Nigeria because the United States DOES NOT WANT HER HERE!!!!!
Your analysis and commentary is BY FAR the best I’ve watched. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I have watched so many of these reaction videos and even though I enjoy watching people being introduced to David and Disturbed. But I truly enjoyed your analysis. I usually just go on to the next after the reaction because the analysis is so boring but not you. Thank you for keeping my attention.😊
Thanks David. I love this track and video, it hasn't been viewed enough to my mind, it deserves a wider audience. Thanks for the joy, insights and observations. Loved your Layne impressions 😊 Hi Timmy 🐱
Thanks David, such great insights and observations. Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2025!
The best band👍💯😊
I believe there is a video that exists that shows that Layne has actually hit both the highest AND lowest notes VP has recorded. His range is insane.
Earlier in the video it was Cesar at least miming the whistle. Don't know who it was actually. :)
I BELIEVE if you look closely when Geoff has the cheeky look (around 37:34 in your video) and glances at Layne...it's because Geoff's lip-sync broke (you hear his bass notes, but he's not moving his lips) and he was wondering if it was bad enough to stop and start over.
I'm SO glad you listened all the way to the end to get Layne's "Santa" stuff. Almost no one else is doing that. :)
If you hadn't SAID you spliced video...I would never have noticed. You did awesome. :)
Remember, that video with arrangement, recording, editing etc was done in one day, since he was releasing a video every day from the 1st of December until Christmas 😉 And "Yes!" it's a G6 and in the Pavarotti part his lowest is E2 - quite a range😁 Wait until you have been listen to "YOU RAISE ME UP (1 OCTAVE CHALLANGE)" where he hits a A#6 😱
Glad to see you come back to Geoff
As a child of the 60s, I can tell you without a doubt that this song epitomized the decade of the "counter-cultural revolution" that forever changed America. The only technology of the day was black and white TV, complete with the rabbit ear antennae that we wrapped tin foil on the ends of to improve reception. I still smile remembering that. So this is not about technology, although that is certainly a symptom. This was the decade that shattered the very foundation of 200 years of shared American culture. The previous generation of Jimmy Stewart's "Its a Wonderful Life" and TV's "Father Knows Best" obliterated by the Hippie generation of "Sex, drugs and Rock & Roll!" Psychedelic drugs and "free love." Haight Ashbury, Woodstock and all that. The Bible was removed from our schools. The day no longer started with prayer for every American school child across the country. The Bible was removed from society and Hollywood as well. Our Christian/Conservative culture fractured as never before. Society was full of rebellion, turmoil, division and more violence. Disillusionment with the government. Anti-Vietnam war sentiment growing, "peace" demonstrations became ironically violent. A nation shell shocked by the assassination of John Kennedy in 1963 (mere months before the 1st release of this song), then his brother. Even more poignant, was the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in 1968. Dr. King was the lone voice of pure truth, unity, universal brotherly love and peace, and the one throw back to our former foundation. Whether you were black or white, young or old, Dr. King was univesrally loved and respected. Sadly, with his death, his "Dream" died with him. This song is more Biblical than people realize. Bleeker Street and Sound of Silence start out with the exact same message. And lament a society that has lost it's way, and society's inability to communicate anymore. Art Garfunkel once said that this song was about just that, the inability to communicate, *"but not on purpose." He said that "People are no longer able to connect on a deep, emotional level anymore. And when people can't connect emotionally, they LOSE THE ABILITY TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER."* So true! At the end of "Bleeker Street" however, there is still hope. At the end of Sound of Silence, there is no hope. It's JUDGEMENT DAY. The writing is on the wall. It's truly one of the darkest, saddest songs ever written. And it's timeless. Although it is so fitting of the 60s, and the counter-revolution that forever changed America as we knew it, it's also fitting of any society that walks away from God, and loses their way, their identity as a family and the ability to connect and love one another. This song is about the human condition that's existed from the dawn of man and will always be TIMELESS. Just sayin, as one who lived through the 60s, and who also lived through the AFTERMATH. God help us.
Another reactor said the same as you re the ''tension'' he talked about an earlier part of the song and said ''there is so much tension in that chord'' you said the same thing in the exact same place. Both you and the other reactor are the only two that have talked about how much tension there is. Now I just need to figure out how tension relates to music and chords, it will take some time 🤣Also the other R said it sounded like Geoffs voice had fused with the brass, very similar to what you are saying, good to know at least two of you are noticing and conveying to us these little gems 😊
I really like your breakdown of this. I have no music theory knowledge at all, the only bit from school ( many many moons ago ) I remember is the term ''beats in a bar'' 😁 Geoff's Patrons, the greatest of folk in there, are helping me when I ask questions, they are all so kind and patient. While I really don't understand a big percentage of your music terminology I stayed to listen to the end because you make your analysis interesting. I think, I am maybe just starting to get little bits and for me that's a great start, I have subscribed to you in hope that I do improve. I have fairly recently found Geoff and VP and now listen to their songs daily, I'm working my way through all their songs, so many to get through and all exquisite I might add, fantastic group and individuals they all are. I really want to understand what makes them all tick, the theory behind their music, arrangements and choices etc. Thank you David from a newbie to music theory.
Brilliant analysis of a brilliant, cinematic video. David's range, emotion, and powerful singing gives me the chills every time! such a talent and musical message.
This is my favorite Geoff video so far. He took a song many people are complacent about and made it stunning.
A clip from their Christmas calendar, from Christmas Eve where they open the last door in the calendar. Here you see the entire lineup on stage, the band, soloists and choir. A powerful ending to their version of "A Christmas Carol". 🎵🎶🎶 Search on: th-cam.com/video/o0P6BwOeLN0/w-d-xo.html
Best analysis ❤
Lovely reaction. The whole album is a masterpiece❤
Thanks, always fun to see your analysis of Majestica and this master piece. Now we have to wait a year for the next one. 😊
Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I'm intending on bringing Majestica to the channel with non-Xmas music during the year this year, so shouldn't be so long this time!
The "cirkus" part is based on the "the Parade of Father Cristmases" that we Lusten to on Xmas Eve in Sweden but changed to a key minor
You really know your music ❤ Thanks for the deep dive in this masterpiece ❤ Tommy and Majestica are so talented ❤. I hope you are planning for more Tommy/Majestica, you got a sub from me 👍
Happy New Year!
David: You're a funny bunny! Timmy: Excuse me!?! I am NOT a bunny, I'll have you know. Now pardon me while I go back to looking bored. 😂
Thanks for a great reaction! I love Majestica's entire album "A Christmas Carol"! Tommy is a master at mixing different pieces of music together so that it becomes a single piece. The music in "A Christmas Carol" sounds a lot like film music. Tommy could definitely make music for films in the future. The short piece that you thought sounded like it came from a circus (19:40 into your reaction), it comes from an old Disney film. The film is called Santa's Workshop and comes from Disney's Silly Symphonies and it is from 1932. Why does Tommy use that particular piece of music here, and how do I know this? This piece of music is simply Christmas for us Swedes. This is because we in Sweden have had a tradition since 1960 of watching a Disney mix on TV every Christmas Eve at 3:00 PM. All Swedes know both the films and the music in this mix. It is a deep-rooted tradition that all Swedes have grown up with. Most of the older films have remained the same over the years, but Disney also shows parts of new films in the mix. The film Santa's Workshop is available on TH-cam and 4:00 minutes into the film this piece is played. Search for: Santa's Workshop (1932 / 2006)
The March from Santas workshop, is on Disney Wiki credited to composer Frank Churchill, who did many of the Silly Symphonies, He more or less borrowed the whole piece from Schubert Military March op 51. th-cam.com/video/iA6QESmhhoc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rsAxABCQg5nlWbkE I've never been able to ascertain if Tommy did the animations here himself. He did the animation for the video Glory of Christmas, which iss on the extended album of Majestica. Not being content of being a musician, he's also good at drawing.
Hi David! I am so glad you reacted to this. I went to your playlists and found The Ghost of Marley first. I love your Tommy and Majestica reactions, it makes me glad that you take your time and really dive into the song/video. Thank you so much for the great reaction! Happy New Year to you 🎉
The guitar when it slows down and there are fireworks are from a Swedish Christmas song "Jul, Jul, Strålande Jul", (Yule, Yule, radiating Yule) and the very last huitar outro starts with the song "Julen Är Här" (Yule is here)
Since Tommy left Sabaton nearly a year ago he has been concentrating on his YT-channel and solocarreer as a singer. Majestica has also released 2 new singels. "A new beginng" a pre-album singel and "Powertrain" which is the titletrack from their upcomming album which will be released 7th of february 2025. Just now are Majestica touring in Germany. They have shows booked around Europe next summer. It has also just been announced that Majestica will play at Wacken Open Air next summer. Wacken is the biggest metalfestival i Europe.
This record is a masterpiece, listen to it all year around and Tommy is a superb songwriter. Great and interesting reaction as always. Thanx and Happy new year.
The visualizer is a smart depiction of the story. The high intensity seems a bit abrasive to my ears, so I was relieved when we reached the backing chorous solo before the grand ending. Thereafter, there seemed more variation, and it provides a breather and really set up the tone for the end. I would have appreciated a bit of that sprinkled in somewhere else a bit (I'm not one who listens to this type of music on a regular basis.) Oh, and hello to kitty Tommy.
Geoff despises repetiveness. He will vary every repeat in some way. It's what makes his arrangements so rich.
Layne did the whistle in the audio, Cesar lip synced it at the beginning of the video. And yes, it was Layne as Santa during the credits 😊
You are mistaken. It wasn't the song that tanked in 1964, but the album it was released on. The album was Wednesday Morning 3AM. I still have this original album. Sounds of Silence was NOT originally released as a single in 1964. And then someone recorded and released what was described as the "electric version" of the song in 1966, and that was when the song was first released as a SINGLE and went right to the top of the pop/rock charts. And the "electric" version wasn't that much different than the original Folk/Gospel style version. I have both original recordings of this song. 🙂 The "electric" version really helped the song, though, because Folk music was fading in popularity and pop/rock was rising. I can see why Wednesday Morning 3AM tanked. There were only a few really good, original songs on it. Bleeker Street and Sound of Silence were the best. Bleeker Street starts out with the same message, highlighting the lack of communication & emotional connection. But while there is still hope at the end of Bleeker Street, there is no such optimism at the end of Sound of Silence. Instead, it's JUDGEMENT TIME. The words of the prophets are the WRITING ON THE WALL. It's a truly dark, sad hopeless song! And my all-time favorite. The song is beautiful and timeless. And we would do well to heed the warning!
Hi Timmy! My ginger boy Butterscotch is here watching too!
10:14 am here
