  • Radical feminism is a gift to men | Robert Jensen | TEDx Ruhr University Bochum
    #tedxrub2019 #embracetheunexpected #toxicmasculinity
In this passionate talk Robert Jensen challenges the common belief that feminism is a threat to men. He argues that there are arguments from both justice and self-interest to present to men when explaining the radical feminist position, especially in the context of a critique of the sexual-exploitation industries (prostitution, pornography, stripping). In his talk Jensen reflects on his own experiences with (radical) feminism and the role of that feminism in making possible a richer, more meaningful life.
Robert Jensen is Emeritus Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas in Austin, author, founding board member of the Third Coast Activist Resource Center, and part of the team developing Ecosphere Studies at The Land Institute in Salina.
    ________
TEDx RuhrUniversityBochum was started in 2016 by a group of students enthusiastic about bringing the TEDx format to the Ruhr Area. In May 2019, we turned our TEDx conference into one of the largest TEDx events in Europe organized by students. We connected over 1,000 people at our TEDx event and brought 13 speakers to Bochum who presented their ideas and visions regarding the motto "Embrace the Unexpected".
„Embrace the unexpected“ is not just a theme, it is an attitude.
It is to look courageously and curiously towards the future and confidently embrace the manifold challenges of our time. To understand the new and unexpected as a learning opportunity for progress and not as a source of uncertainty. Such an attitude is needed in a rapidly changing world, now more than ever.

There's ambiguities in all things --- it's social/political science --- but it's not meaningless. If you think about it, if there's any ideological conception, of/relating to male dominance, in our society: it's that it's "natural." Or inevitable. 1: his argument is purely based on his own experience. so thats 1 : 7.9 billion. Its irrelevant in a discussion.
2: his whole reason he felt uncormfortable with himself are his own misconceptions about masculinity. now he only has new misconceptions. so yeah he developed, but backwards. he projects his own shortcomings onto others. He literally messed up and thinks everyone else messes up aswell. never project your own failure.
3: He embraces radical feminism. as soon as you go radical in any means you lost. Radicals are at the end of a spectrum and cannot grasp the view of what lies on the other side of that given spectrum. whenever you stop to see the arguments on the other side you literally lost the discussion already.
He is a nice person and he tries his best. Even his motives are mostly good. but that doesnt make him right at all.
The underlying question is what is the problem with radical feminism. And that one is easy enough to answer for yourself (hint it isnt about equality but gaining further priviledge)

Now in its 24th year, the VPC study consistently finds that women who are murdered by men are almost always killed by someone they know. This year’s study found that nationwide, 91 percent of women killed by men were murdered by someone they knew and that the most common weapon used was a gun.
In 2019, for homicides in which the weapon used could be identified, 58 percent of female victims were shot and killed with a firearm. Of the homicides committed with guns, 65 percent were killed with a handgun. The number of women shot and killed by their husband or intimate acquaintance was more than three and a half times the total number murdered by male strangers using all weapons combined.

If you give everyone the same rights you will never have the same outcomes. And you will never get the same outcomes without discriminating against certain people. I prefer the first. And just because we have 80% men on our board in a field with 80% men in general doesn't mean that I as an individual have ever been granted the opportunity to lead. For example: One of the biggest isuues is the traditional societal pressure that a man should be the breadwinner in a family. This result that on one side women are being disencouraged on the working field. But on the other side putting more pressure on men, resulting in less help for them in hard times causing there to be more male homeless people. Roughly said without putting in the nuances.

Every person’s body is their own. The problem is that a woman can make a choice about her body that affects a man. If he doesn’t want a child, she makes her choice and then sues him successfully for child support. So her choice, which is her own, affects not just herself. She should still be able to make that choice, but the law should take into account the man’s position as her decision affects his life too. If he supports her decision and wants to pay support - he should have a place as father in that child’s life legally and physically. If he doesn’t, and she makes that choice - she did so willingly and he shouldn’t be forced to pay that. It is a gift because it shows female nature clearly, society in recent years has mad with so everything women do is great abd fantastic and everything guys do is terrible.
As such it's easy to tell who's horrible because they can do what they want without consequences and that's when people show their true colours.
Always judge folks on how they behave when they think either noone is looking or there's no judgement.

Lol. The very premise of his entire life's work is flawed from the get go. Patriarchy is not some malevolent institution. Its how things worked itself out on its own. Not saying it shouldnt be corrected. But radical feminism is in itself a terrible tool to try and fix things.

Robert Jensen is a political activist who wrote books with no actual worth. If recognizing and calling out this guy out for being the political activist and grifter that he is upsets you, it's you that has insecurities. You can't even point out what makes society a patriarchy, much less flaws in it.
