Multiplayer on the Wii U is amazing. I could never get into COD but I play Black Ops 2 with my boyfriend on the Wii U because I don’t have to deal with split screen, I get the gamepad, he gets the TV and it’s actually fun. Affordable Space Adventures, Smash, Super Mario 3D World. The Wii U is amazing and I just feel disappointed when I play local multi on any other console because it feels outdated compared to the Wii U
1:28 marketing? They marketed the console? I kid you not I only recall seeing any Wii U ads when the console first launched in 2012. Seeing an ad for Nintendo Land was the only thing I saw. The only other time I saw an ad for the Wii U was when I used to work for a third party in Target back in 2016 and I saw ads for paper Mario color splash. Those are the only ads I had seen for the Wii U ever. And honestly the one I saw at Target was probably just because I was working at Target. I don't think I would have seen that ad at home
The thing is that we use was not a failure in the overall sense. Financially maybe but it brought some of the best games that have been ported to switch and it was a great prelude to switch. It was an enhancement of the Wii and then you take away the Wii part of the Wii U then you get the switch.
Yeah, the console maybe failed but my top 30 games of the console is here, if you still want to play Wii U, buy these games: 30 - Game & Wario 29 - Tank! Tank! Tank! 28 - Nintendo Land 27 - Super Mario Maker 26 - Wonderful 101 25 - Lego city undercover 24 - Madden 13 23 - Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE 22 - Super Luigi Bros U 21 - Dr Luigi 20 - Yoshi's woolly world 19 - Fast racing neo 18 - Duck tales remastered 17 - Captain toad treasure tracker 16 - Splatoon 15 - Devil's third 14 - Paper Mario Color splash 13 - Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black water 12 - Star Fox Zero 11 - Hyrule Warriors 10 - Pikmin 3 9 - Zombi U 8 - Super Smash Bros Wii U 7 - Bayonetta 2 6 - Xenoblade Chronicles X 5 - Tekken tag tournament 2: Wii U Edition 4 - Mario Kart 8 3 - Donkey kong country: Tropical Freeze 2 - Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 1 - Super Mario 3D World
In addition to your reasons IMHO the Wii U failed for 2 additional reasons: 1. Nintendo misunderstood the success of the Wii. A huge percentage of Wii's were sold as fitness accessories, not game consoles. If you went to seniors residences and they'd have a Wii for the residents to use for "exercise". There was no way the Wii U could tap into that saturated market. 2. On launch there were no system sellers (other than maybe New Super Mario Bros U) - in particular games which made effective use of the GamePad. Imagine what would have happened if Super Mario Maker was a launch title.
Remember guys, dont make too many accesories for 1 console with its name at the beginning, because if you make a new console that has the name of the console at the start and sounds like an accesory people will think its an accesory and not a new console
To put into perspective It was near impossible to get a Wii on day one. I remember trying to get a Wii on day one and it didn't matter what store I went to there was a giant line outside the store. Best buy, Toys r Us, Target, it just didn't matter. A month later I waited in line at Target overnight and was the fifth person in line and played DS with a bunch of other people in line mostly playing new Super Mario Bros for the mini games and I think I played some Mario Kart DS as well with them too. However when the Wii U came out it was completely different. I thought I was going to have to wait in a super long line again because I just assumed the Wii U was going to be another success so I went to wait at Target the night before and there just really was nobody there. I didn't have to do it. I ended up being the very first person in my hometown of Santa Rosa to get a Wii U at Target. The line that formed behind me was maybe like I don't know like 10 other people.
2:27 I remember that. I was playing Rayman Legends at GameStop and loved playing the demo there on the Wii U. It was going to be a Wii U exclusive in March of 2013 I think but then because of how poorly the Wii U had sold Ubisoft decided that they should delay the release of that game to release that game as well as other ports in I think it was September of 2013. I haven't played Rayman Legends on other consoles, but I have enjoyed it a lot on the Wii U and I think that's the best console for it just because I love how much control you have over that ferry that removes obstacles from that green guy who automatically moves forward. Because you're doing this on a touch screen you control precisely where that ferry is and control everything so quickly
“The Wii U was a mess in every possible way”- then proceeds to only mention marketing and sales. By that logic, the GameCube was a mess in every possible way as well. We all know that wasn’t the case.
@@dumbstruckempire”uncomfortable and clunky”-which everyone knows the gamepad is extremely comfortable, and can do so many more things than the switch can(asymmetrical gaming anyone?)… Then he mentioned the games, when in reality, breath of the wild, Mario 3D land, Xenoblade chronicles x, nintendoland, zombie U, and at the time smash Wii U was amazing… So, I’m just not really ever seeing where the Wii U is a bad system other then like I said, the marketing and sales numbers, which don’t even logically dictate wether a console is “good or not”….
The sales drop off wasn’t as big from N64 (32.9m) to GameCube (21.7m) compared to the Wii (101.6m) to Wii U (13.5m) lol it was a catastrophe in every possible way. I never knew not one person that had it.
If the Wii U gamepad wasn't as tied to the console as it was would have helped, if you could take it with you and play your games anywhere you had a internet connection, it would have been such a game changer. Something they were able to do with the Switch, if only they'd given us that a 5 years earlier.
As a former Nintendo fan who started out with their Game & Watch series, whenever they have success they think they know more than anyone else, and then you get HUGE errors in judgment. They knew best with the N64, as they didn't see the value in CD's, when all their 3rd parties were like, this is the future. They can also NEVER take an idea that someone else had, and say it was good and roll with it. Hence having to state BotW is an open air game instead of open world game, this is their broken logic and I've seen it to many times over the years. So when the GC finally went CD, they couldn't use a standard one, as that would be saying it was a good idea, nope we have mini disc, aren't we original? Nintendo was on their last leg hardware wise with the Wii and why it was just a GC with motion controls added, as they didn't have the funds at the time for deep R&D for a fresh new system. And against all odds, it was at the right place at the right time, and it sold over 100 million units. Then they figured to cheap out again, keep the gimmick and name and the Wii U was born. I'm sorry, but that tablet was useless and added an unnecessary cost to what should have been a $150 system. Then after many years of not showing consumers why they needed it, they took a great game like Star Fox, did almost nothing new, and destroyed the game with horrible controls. Then in typical Miyamoto San fashion, he blames the fans on why we probably will never see another SF game after their poor judgment killed it(blame the fans for poor sells). The Wii U was a poor idea out of the gate, they wanted to do the least amount of work, and get the best return. Well consumers aren't dumb, unlike some fan bases, and they didn't buy in to a lackluster console with added cost that did nothing to improve the gaming experience.
The only reason why Nintendo didn't see value in CDs and then later DVDs and instead stuck with carts and then later custom mini dvds was simply because Nintendo made additional money through them. Using specialized media meant they would charge devs for total amount of units, manufacturing costs and all that good stuff. It was something Nintendo had been doing since the launch of the NES in the states(before that with the famicom in Japan, Devs would have to produce their own carts) actually they been doing it since the famicom disk system for the famicom. But yeah Nintendo like Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Atari and so many others would let success go to their heads and become arrogant and make stupid decisions because "hey we were successful before"

The name alone killed it lol like you said parents were confused and thought it was just an add on accessory to the Wii

I didnt buy one cause of the lack of games!
And the 3ds was out and better cause it was handheld
Most people thought it was a tablet to add to your wii
Hence why nintendo never call there new console are an old one
Wii U was a system with great potential but Nintendo failed to take advantage.
It was a failure because only the wrong people buy that console,

My wife bought me a used WiiU from a pawn shop for Christmas years ago. It was missing the bundled game, so pretty sure whoever took it in stole it.
Wii U time
I’ll say I remember the Payton List commercial, as I was a fan of Jessie
