this is why even in 2019 I'd prefer a 2DS or DSI White. Those are all old nintendo DS's I have. I currently use the 3DS though, as the switch is something I don't feel like I need.

I get the Wii U did poorly. But I got one and honestly loved it. Were there missed opportunities and few games? Yes. But the few games I did get were awesome. And Nintendo Land is the only game I've gotten my entire family to play and have fun with (including my mom who hates video games). I guess my family also played Wii Sports together, but I don't really count that since it wasn't much of a game.
It’s a bigger flop because they invested more in it. It was meant to be their flagship successor to the Wii. The Virtual Boy was more of just an experiment.
You forgot to mention that for an extra $50, you didn't just get a cooler color and 32 gigs, you also got a game that was worth (back then) 50-60$ and a small 10$ plastic thing that allowed it to be put vertically. Basically, the Deluxe set was actually a much, MUCH better deal than the basic set.

Besides that, the real reason that thing failed was because Nintendo did a dumb move, and made the system in the same generation that was about to be obsolete in less than a year. They made two systems in the same current generation in which was about to die, where Sony and Microsoft already announced new generation consoles. They should've made a new generation console, and I that would've gave them a severe advantage, even if it would've been weaker.

I honestly really liked the Wii U. It was the first console I bought with my own money. The real problems for me were the lack of games specifically for it and the fact you couldn’t take it anywhere. It did the trick before I got me a switch

And at the time, I wasn't watching too much TV, so from the few commercials I saw, they made it look like the Gamepad was just a new controller.
The GamePad is encrypted to the console, and the encryption has not been defeated as of 2019. So, if your GamePad does fail, you'll get an error about your GamePad is not responding. To solve it, you can use either a Pro Controller or a Wii Remote Plus with a Nunchuk. Or even you can repair your GamePad.

I first got my Wii U around 2-3 years ago and love it so far. Even after getting a switch I won't get rid of it, especially being able to play Wii games in it too.
The Wii U should've been named the "Nintendo Duo" and have been advertised better. Then maybe the Wii U would've sold better. The console was highly misunderstood, it could have really actually been a challenge to Microsoft and Sony again, but Nintendo clearly was confused on what to do after the success of the Wii.
No. The only way the Wii U would have succeeded is if they had: 1.) Released a lot more great games 2.) Ditched the tablet controller entirely. 3.) Lowered the price/ introduced a worthwhile feature.

i got mine used for 55nzd from a cash converters because they said it was password locked so only good for parts i was able to remove the parental lock and it works fine for what i paid for mine i like it but i hardly play it that much i play my 2ds and 3ds way more

GPU prices have basically returned to normal for a while now, at least for the most part. Also I don't see how price could be an issue to build a cool PC, as Austin has a series literally called "How to waste money on amazon". PC gaming is in no way suffering from cryptomining, neither does that have anything to do with having underestemating consoles. Also you don't have to estemate anything with tech, you have benchmarks and specs. Consoles are simply slower and less powerful then a PC.
I can name my own five: 1. Didn't know what it wants to be. Portable? Home console? 2. Name is unoriginal 3. Terrible, not relatable marketing. 4. Seems like an add-on for the Wii than a separate console. 5. Conflict with Third-Party developers.
I still play on my Wii U, though not as much as I used to. I still play Splatoon, Smash Bros, and Pikmin 3. But all of those will be coming sooner or later to the Switch.

The second screen was utilized properly in like 3 games and they did actually work great, Shovel Knight and Windwaker were the best with a second screen as an inventory etc. The problem was it was only those 2-3 games.

I did not know about the existence of Wii U all the time of her life. I found out that Nintendo released the new console only when the announcement of the closure of the Wii U production appeared. I just didn’t read the news about the Wii U in the news feed because I thought this Wii U was a new Wii Zapper. Probably many people never found out about the new console for that reason. The main mistake of Nintendo is the use of the word Wii in the name of new console (Wii U). Wii has nothing to do with the Wii U game plan, respectively, and the console should have been called completely differently.
The worst part was how you always had to have the gamepad on, regardless of what controller you used. Also, can we talk about how fucking stupid it is that GC controllers only work for 1 game on the Wii U ? Those shits were $30 plus $20 for an adapter, which they stopped making for some odd reason despite the fact that the Switch can use them and for like a million more games, too.

I remember 2014 was the best year for the console. It was an awesome console with great games, but sadly the marketing and lack of 3rd party killed it.
We to most it may have failed, I for one love my Wii U! My parents got it for me with a copy of Hyrule Warriors for Christmas and later bought Breath of the Wild as my Birth Day present. Have taken good care of it even now that I have the original version of the Switch with SSB Ultimate, Pokemon Sword and Shield as well as the new Hyrule Warriors BotW Edition. The Wii U is one of my favorite game consoles and I say it was worth every penny. Also the gamepad feels far more comfortable in your hands than the Switch imho.
It didn't fail in my house. Sure, my kids have thrown it off their bunkbed. It's been through pure hell and it STILL WORKS. (i had to replace one thumbstick which was an EZ $10 fix.) I tried gluing the NERF protection case onto it. That didn't last too long. Damn thing is cheap and amazing for KIDS.
Micheal Jackson’s Innocent Splatoon and Super Mario Maker would’ve been great launch titles that could’ve made the Wii U sell well. Shame both of them came out 3 years later in 2015.
You can’t blame the power of the console for bad sales. The Wii and Switch were also underpowered compared to the competition yet still sold incredibly well. Also the Switch is also $300 ($350 for OLED) so saying the Wii U was overpriced makes literal no sense. I mean the PS4 was $400 at the time and the Xbox One was $500. Critics even praised the Wii U for being a hundred less than it’s competitors.
Me and my twin brother got a Wii u when I was 5 (I know a little young) and it was pretty much my childhood. I kept it for years, loved the gamepad, and never had any problems with is or the battery. I grew up playing Super Mario 3d world and Mario Kart 8 which were both awesome games. I even bought a second Mario cart 8 when the first one got too scratched to play. Whenever my friends came over they played it with me and I even had 4 clear individually colored controller which I loved. In the end, it was a great system that

What's the deal with this hot buttered popcorn? I don't get it? Besides that, the real reason that thing failed was because Nintendo did a dumb move, and made the system in the same generation that was about to be obsolete in less than a year. They made two systems in the same current generation in which was about to die, where Sony and Microsoft already announced new generation consoles. They should've made a new generation console, and I that would've gave them a severe advantage, even if it would've been weaker.
We would have the Switch without the Wii U. You can tell Nintendo just evolved the concept of the Wii U to make the Switch. Not to mention all the Wii U ports the Switch is getting. The Switch owes the Wii U a lot.

I honestly really liked the Wii U. It was the first console I bought with my own money. The real problems for me were the lack of games specifically for it and the fact you couldn’t take it anywhere. It did the trick before I got me a switch

I loved my wii u. It if it wasnt for my wii u, I would've never experienced splatoon which is to this day my favorite game of all time. The 1st game brings back memories of old splatfests, miiverse posts, and all the sounde effects, soundtracks and just every thing.

And at the time, I wasn't watching too much TV, so from the few commercials I saw, they made it look like the Gamepad was just a new controller.

The GamePad is encrypted to the console, and the encryption has not been defeated as of 2019. So, if your GamePad does fail, you'll get an error about your GamePad is not responding. To solve it, you can use either a Pro Controller or a Wii Remote Plus with a Nunchuk. Or even you can repair your GamePad.

The Wii U should've been named the "Nintendo Duo" and have been advertised better. Then maybe the Wii U would've sold better.
The console was highly misunderstood, it could have really actually been a challenge to Microsoft and Sony again, but Nintendo clearly was confused on what to do after the success of the Wii.
No. The only way the Wii U would have succeeded is if they had:
1.) Released a lot more great games
2.) Ditched the tablet controller entirely.
3.) Lowered the price/ introduced a worthwhile feature.

GPU prices have basically returned to normal for a while now, at least for the most part. Also I don't see how price could be an issue to build a cool PC, as Austin has a series literally called "How to waste money on amazon".
PC gaming is in no way suffering from cryptomining, neither does that have anything to do with having underestemating consoles. Also you don't have to estemate anything with tech, you have benchmarks and specs. Consoles are simply slower and less powerful then a PC.

I still play on my Wii U, though not as much as I used to. I still play Splatoon, Smash Bros, and Pikmin 3. But all of those will be coming sooner or later to the Switch.

The second screen was utilized properly in like 3 games and they did actually work great, Shovel Knight and Windwaker were the best with a second screen as an inventory etc. The problem was it was only those 2-3 games.
What a failure. So, the gamepad was basically a fancy controller with a redundant screen that you couldn't play away from the console. That's the dumbest idea I've ever seen.

I did not know about the existence of Wii U all the time of her life. I found out that Nintendo released the new console only when the announcement of the closure of the Wii U production appeared. I just didn’t read the news about the Wii U in the news feed because I thought this Wii U was a new Wii Zapper. Probably many people never found out about the new console for that reason. The main mistake of Nintendo is the use of the word Wii in the name of new console (Wii U). Wii has nothing to do with the Wii U game plan, respectively, and the console should have been called completely differently.

I remember 2014 was the best year for the console. It was an awesome console with great games, but sadly the marketing and lack of 3rd party killed it.

I'm not convinced that the name "Wii u" was the main reason why this console failed.
We to most it may have failed, I for one love my Wii U! My parents got it for me with a copy of Hyrule Warriors for Christmas and later bought Breath of the Wild as my Birth Day present. Have taken good care of it even now that I have the original version of the Switch with SSB Ultimate, Pokemon Sword and Shield as well as the new Hyrule Warriors BotW Edition. The Wii U is one of my favorite game consoles and I say it was worth every penny.
Also the gamepad feels far more comfortable in your hands than the Switch imho.
Honestly I love the Wiiu and I still have it. The controller is spazzy tho and has a super bad battery life.
You can play Smash Bros without using the gamepad, just don't touch the stick on it when you get to the fighter select screen.

Micheal Jackson’s Innocent Splatoon and Super Mario Maker would’ve been great launch titles that could’ve made the Wii U sell well. Shame both of them came out 3 years later in 2015.

You can’t blame the power of the console for bad sales. The Wii and Switch were also underpowered compared to the competition yet still sold incredibly well. Also the Switch is also $300 ($350 for OLED) so saying the Wii U was overpriced makes literal no sense. I mean the PS4 was $400 at the time and the Xbox One was $500. Critics even praised the Wii U for being a hundred less than it’s competitors.
My dad bought the Wii U when it came out and we didnt care about the flaws we had so much fun playing and i still think its very good
Me and my twin brother got a Wii u when I was 5 (I know a little young) and it was pretty much my childhood. I kept it for years, loved the gamepad, and never had any problems with is or the battery. I grew up playing Super Mario 3d world and Mario Kart 8 which were both awesome games. I even bought a second Mario cart 8 when the first one got too scratched to play. Whenever my friends came over they played it with me and I even had 4 clear individually colored controller which I loved. In the end, it was a great system that
