Composed for Princeton Sound Kitchen.
Program note:
i. starstruck
One of my favorite feelings I experience when listening to any piece of music is the sensation of feeling weightless, as if I am floating, buoyant; free, but also lost. As if I’m discovering how to listen to music for the first time, full of wonder. starstruck is loosely based on personal memories of listening to the first prelude of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and of playing in hardcore bands when I was in high school.
ii. stopgap blues
I have moved every year of my life since 2014, often multiple times. Because of this, I often feel unsettled, as if I don't have a true sense of home, and I fear that I won't for quite a long time.
stopgap blues is somewhat related to this feeling. It's my emotional reaction to chronic impermanence. I've often found myself yearning for childhood recently, which was the last time I knew where home was.

Wow. This makes me love the electric guitar. The entire piece is just dynamic and gently insists upon being heard. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
objects in my room begin to levitate
What I love about this and your string quartet is how you still predicate quite lush pop/rock chords - major 7ths, minor 7th - then encourage the listener to step *just* outside that comfort. In this context the B half-sharp at around 14:05 becomes achingly beautiful
Very well done Max!
Emotional, innovative and stunningly beautiful music!
This is beautiful! I'm totally considering getting a quartet together right now, just because I would like to play this.

this is an amazing ensemble! I hope to have the opportunity to write music like this
Great piece! All theese sonorities you achieved inspired me to use electric guitar in my new piece for chamber ensemble.

Love your e-quartet! Jeté notation with dots and spaces … .. . is your invention o there is a background?
Hi! This piece was beautiful, loved the sound. I was wondering, what kind of pedals do you use for the guitars?
