    i have about 400 hours of DR and DR2.0, I have tried wrc 9 and 10. as soon as i downloaded the rbr Hungarian mod i uninstalled DR2.0, the way the car moves just makes much more sense, even if there seems to be a bit of grip missing in certain places, the car gives you much more confidence as you can feel everything the car is doing even though its more punishing for our mistakes. I have no idea what a real wrc drives like, but rbr makes me believe their interpretation a lot more. amazed how old and how good it feels

      I've tried to play DiRT Rally and Rally 2.0 and they never felt the way I expected.
      They're okay in their own ways. I can see why people like them, however they weren't my favourite.
      WRC 9 and 10 felt nice on a pad for me, the initial response feels a little too grippy but I don't mind that feel of the rear of the car always floating on loose surfaces.
      By no means I'm saying this is 100% realistic, nor that the driving model is flawless, but it matched my interpretation of how real rally cars looked on videos and most importantly I had fun.
      After playing WRC Generations, I'd much rather play DiRT Rally 2.0, a game I never felt like I fully understood, or RBR with the physics mod in the video, which apparently captures the feeling of a real car pretty well.
      However, Generations has an issue regarding the tyre sim, it could very much be the bane of the issues I'm having.

      @@L0CALDRUGMAN no, dirt rally feels like a swivel, the ffb effects are nicer though( although sometimes a but vague) . but the way the car moves is exaggerated. there's no continuity or logic to balancing the weight of the car. if wrc had better roadfeel it would be great. but to me it's already better than dirt. just the stages themselves are something else.

      Playstation controller I’m assuming?
      Since RBR doesn’t allow you to setup deadzones, I run a global steam input virtual controller.
      The program I used is called GloSi and it emulates an xbox controller, using Steam’s pretty good input setup, and hides the real controller to stop double inputs.
      Then, I’m using the Hungarian RBR launcher, they also have a plugin that allows for left foot braking for controllers where triggers use the same axis allowing you to use the virtual Xbox controller with no problem.
      Side note, with GloSi and Steam Input you can actually map buttons to
      navigate through the menus with the controller by mapping keyboard buttons.

    I will write like this ... RBR is a successful product, to this day it is simply a phenomenon. WRC Generations is based on real telemetry of current rally cars and it is hard to say how much realism there is in relation to route modeling. Of course, looking at WRC onboard or dashboard, none of the current games is able to reflect the behavior of a real car, the creator of Dirt Rally said that it is not difficult to make a game like RBR and you can make a game even more real, but the average player would wrap such a car around trees on the first bend. The game is to reach a wide group of people as fun from the game, the rest is breaking time records on the steering wheels for a narrower group that is able to spend many hours playing it. S. Loeb once said in one of the interviews that new rally cars are more precise and predictable in driving, therefore they are able to break certain barriers that could be dreamed about in old rally cars from the 2000s. I think WRC Generations is a successful fun rally game which somehow pretends to be 🤔🤔🤔 a rally simulator - somehow the effects of the collision physics rule it out and tyre floating as well.
    I can also add that the assistance and hybrid mapping system in WRC Generations is not real even when comparing it with a real ordinary Toyota hybrid car that I drive on a daily basis, which is not in fact a rally car, but the power mode response is faster response to additional battery power, where the smooth transmission of torque or its efficiency is reduced more to a power splitting mechanism like physics in this game where the torques are three times higher in the power transmission in rally cars. So in this new WRC game hybrid boost its the same like turbo hole in old cars 🤔 and on my opinion should be patched.

      @martineering.evoluzione ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nismo97 It was an interview with him from a few years ago where Dirt Rally was still exclusive on the PC. I don't remember what blog it was on, but he did mention how close Codemasters back then was to the rally world and how they tested the physics themselves in Subaru near Somerset in the UK and the road mapping. He recalled that when he asked real rally drivers about their impressions from the RBR game, none of them experienced the realism that could be obtained in a real car on a similar surface and that in the real world the RBR driving model could kill many drivers by wrapping their cars in a tree. Codemasters then cooperated with many rally companies, drivers, journalists, etc. In this they themselves recorded sounds while driving a real rally car on real routes ... probably nothing better could be done then for the world of rally games and players.

      @nismo97  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@stburr91 One thing is people preferring WRC G’s physics, which I honestly don’t understand, but to that I say to each one their own.
      My problem stems from the marketing material for the game saying it’s more realistic than their previous games, when it’s very much the opposite.
      WRC G is less realistic than WRC 10 and far less realistic than RBR NGP, and what makes it less realistic is how clunky, unresponsive and unstable the cars are.
      Cars shouldn’t be two wheeling over crests, nor driving like they’re on ice.
      I take issue with people liking this game by saying it is more realistic when it’s clearly not.
      Worst case scenario, the developer will now think that by “realism” people mean needlessly clunky and non intuitive physics.

    • @classic7376
      @classic7376 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nismo97 From my little experience with real rally driving, I can't understand, on the other side, the hype and the hard fanbase that RBR (NGP 6) has. I don't think it's so good as most players claim. The grip many times is not natural for me. Real cars dive into the corners, especially tight corners. In RBR there is always more slide than normal.
      Dirt rally 2.0 is closer to real life in my opinion (at least on gravel). The cars lose and gain grip with more realistic way, the brakes "distances" are better as well.
      WRC 10 (I have not played Generations) is very bad - no doubt about this: too much grip, the lateral grip is non existed, weightless cars, the cars accelerate/decelerate like Hot Wheels cars, in many cases you can overcorrect any wrong only with downshift! Absolutely arcadish physics.

    • @nismo97
      @nismo97  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@classic7376 Thank you for your input, so far I feel like you’re one of the few I can agree with.
      Also, keep in mind I used NGP 7, when I tried NGP 6 the grip felt way less consistent than 7.
      NGP is nowhere near perfect, it has issues that likely come from the not-so-great vanilla physics.
      Depending on the car, some feel like they grip too much, some feel like they float away from the turns even though it feels like you had the right entry.
      The suspension simulation also seems off, the cars feel too bouncy still and weight shifting is weird to say the least.
      As for DR2.0, I always had the feeling that the grip model is too extreme.
      One example of this is how competitive players drive in rally-x, basically doing gymkhana style reverse entries into tighter turns and somehow shooting out of the turn with ridiculous amounts of speed.
      Basically, people seem to abuse how strong the clawing grip of the tyres is on gravel to compensate how the cars have initially too low grip when going in a straight line.
      Still, it could very much be the game that is closest to the real thing.
      WRC 10 has a plethora of issues like you mentioned, but Generations makes all those flaws even more pronounced.
      Even less sideways grip, even more wheelspin like you’re driving slicks on gravel, brakes are super weak but turning the wheel full lock slows the car down better, and like the video shows the cars also two wheel over crests like they’re a top heavy truck.
      At the end of the day, I’m not expecting any game to be realistic. It’s very hard to get every bit of a real car correctly simulated and have it work flawlessly in every situation.
      I feel like many games are now going for what the fanbase seems to perceive to be realistic, instead of trying to get the closest possible to realism.

      don't get me wrong, I love a realistic and challenging rally as much as the next sim nut, but I also just simply like rally games!
      I remember having such a BLAST as a kid playing top gear rally and sega rally! Simply the idea of driving at breakneck speeds while listening to turn instructions is great heartoumping fun in its own, even if the physics aren't that great
      Besides, physics are one the most notoriously difficult things to code. they also have to hire ACTUAL PHYSICISTS to help them get the formulas correct.

      @@angelinadash2396 I'd argue modern rally games became very unfun while also becoming less realistic.
      There's a video from Donut Media about Dirt 5 and one of the devs said how their "simulation" games (F1 and DRally) are designed around what people think is realistic, not necessarily full blown realism.
      I've started with arcade games, as many probably also have, but these days I prefer simulators because they're way less bullshit than whatever arcade games recently came out.
      However, simulation games are clearly not free from bullshit mechanics like the iRacing grass abuse for example.
      Basically, arcade games are now overcomplicated clunky games and simulation games are harder than real life so players have something to boast about.
      For me, none of that means fun. Dirt 2 and 3 were the last good arcade rally games and RBR with mods seems to be the only rally sim where things mostly make sense.
      As for the argument of actual physicists being needed, these formulas have been around for a long time and devs don't need to reinvent the wheel. I am very aware of what limitations there are when going for extreme realism but that doesn't excuse why some aspects of the physics gets worse while better technology is made available.
      Many people use the the complexity of a physics model as an argument for realism, but sometimes simple does it better.

      @@nismo97 there is an term for a game that mixes slightly arcade physics with simulation aspects, its called simcade.
      You didn't like dirt 4 and 5 at all? ;( dirt 4 really was great! so was 5.
