    Some years ago I knew a man who was a mule skinner during WW1. He had a team of 8. He earned himself a LOT of money with betting that his team could pull trapped vehicles out of the mud. Bets increased when he cut the number down to just a pair. He said they never let him down.
    After the war he bought some land, worked it and then in WW2 went back to work with another team of mules. More money in his pockets again.
    When I knew him he had an Arab Stud Farm. Had here been a call for mules in the U.K. He would have bred them.

    Did the same thing when I was breaking rough stock years ago. Only our set up was for two blocks one on top of the other, sheet metal and noise and uncomfortable as hell. Had a old saw buck I was a master at rebuilding. Seriously though I really think it made a better horse when as a colt they carried a lot of salt in those things. All the horses we kept for us to use ranching spent their time with those. A lot less recks later in life.

      @BroncsAndDonks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey that's a good idea. Do you have any pictures you can send me of those panneirs?

    • @MrSanteeclaus
      @MrSanteeclaus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry no I don’t - we didn’t have the technology for it short of cameras back then. However a section of a truck tire big enough to accommodate 2 blocks and some cutting away of the bead is needed. Then add strapping of some sort of. Nylon -old Ladigos or seatbelt material. You can haul loose salt or minerals in a section of truck tire inter tube. Two of these tied together can be draped over the decker or sawbuck or even a riding saddle. Use the oppose end to fill and empty. Tied close with bailing twine.
      I like your fence stake pannier

      BTw the tire panniers are great for hauling a roll of Barb wire.

    Do your horses and mules sustain many injuries? Looks hard on them! Are they sore after a ride like that?

    • @BroncsAndDonks
      @BroncsAndDonks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I very rarely injure a mule. First off, a mule will never do something he doesn't want to do. Secondly, hurting mules is not a good business plan. How are we supposed to run a ranch with crippled mules? Plus, I wouldn't be able to sell them. last and most importantly, I respect and love mules so I would never put them in a situation they could not handle.
      Notice all my mules are repeatedly showing up on the channel. They may become sore after a long hike but nothing out of the norm. My mules are great athletes and are in great shape!
