  • Marileidy Paulino dominated the 2024 season by winning Olympic Gold in 48.17 seconds, making her the 4th fastest woman ever over 400m. But even more importantly, she has been leading arguably the greatest generation of 400m running since the 1980s.

    The women's 400m, to me, is the most exciting event in women's track and field today. Looking at how many outstanding established runners like, Paulino, Kaczmarek, Nasir, and Adeleke there are several outstanding young talent on the horizon like, Nickisha Price and possibly a return of Britton Wilson. With possible cross-over stars like McLaughlin, Bol and even a return of Abby Steiner the women's 400m is loaded with talent, the WR is no doubt in sight!

    The most exciting thing from my perspective is the number of young athletes running 49's. As you stated, most women peak around the age of 24-28 in the 400m and we have numoerous women younger than 24 running low 49's and even 48's in the case of Nickisha Pryce. Then you have the likes of Sydney and Femke running really fast times despite it not being their main event and without specific training. I'm fairly sure we will be seeing 47's by the next Olympics.

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  5 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yea 47 in 2028, if not sooner, seems likely. At a minimum, Paulinio and Naser are 27 and 26 right now and have already run 48.1. So assuming they slightly improve next year, then were looking at 48.0 or 47.9. But then the women who are younger than 24 like Pryce, Adeleke and all the others. So much to look forward too!

  • @AllInTheGame01
    @AllInTheGame01 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

    There's potentially at least 10 women who at their best & if they decide to commit to the 400m that have either run sub 49s or have the potential to do so which has never been the case at any other point in the event's history; Paulino, Syd, Shaunae, Naser, Nickisha, Femke, Kaczmarek, Adeleke, Britton, Kaylyn, Athing & Amber Anning.
    Then there's another deep tier below in that solid mid-to-high 49s range; Sada, Klaver, Gabby, Shamier, Aaliyah, Rosey, Alexis, Kendall, Candice, Nielsen, Jaeger, Talitha, Charokee & Stacey Ann.
    Then there's the U20 youngsters coming through who've displayed great ability in the event this yr; JaMeesia Ford, Lurdes Manuel, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Michaela Mouton & esp Kaylyn Brown again despite the technical issues with her 31 Dec Bday date :) The event's never been in a better place, looking forward to seeing how Britton & Shaunae slot back in next yr!

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      Britton is the one who I have my eyes on in terms of getting back next year. She of course can run 48 seconds once healthy, but I also felt she was on pace to do what Anna Cocrkell did and run 51 seconds in the hurdles. Will be interesting to see if she ever returns to the hurdles once her injury issues are in the past.
      But yea, its getting hard to wrap my head around just how deep the event is right now and its crazy to think that Paulino and Naser are still only 27 and 26 years old, meaning they have a few years to keep getting faster than their 48.1 PBs, especially Naser considering she is finally getting back into form after her ban

    • @AllInTheGame01
      @AllInTheGame01 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@TheFinalLeg Don't see the point in Britton given her injury issues touching the 400mH next yr as she needs a full healthy season in the 400m as I had her on a similar trajectory this yr to Nickisha Pryce's 48.5 & 48.8. Also wanna see Shamier do the same given just how poor she was in the 400mH post OLY where she was great in the relays as she has untapped potential in her secondary 400m event given her 49.68 PB. I think both can make a US WC 400m Team along with Kaylyn Brown esp if Syd decides to once again go for the 400mH along with Jasmine Jones & Anna Cockrell. Given how badly Paris went for her, very interested in seeing if Paulino's 48.17 & overall depth of the event is enough to entice low 48s Shaunae back to the event one last time for an all season long 'Big 3 Battle' with Paulino & Naser!

    Paulino is a great 400m runner - she’s really underrated and still unknown outside track and field circles but she had a brilliant season. I really hope we see Sydney attack the 400 next season - with a dedicated 400m season from her and Paulino still seemingly improving, we could finally see Koch’s ridiculous world record banished from the sport, which would be great thing.

      Yea I want to see Sydney attack the 400m all out next year. But I'm still not sure if the world record will be taken down. Its really really far out there. A woman will have to run 47.5, which is insane. One day, but who knows. This generation of women may push each other to get under 48 though sooner than later!

      Not sure considering most of the top women don't run the 400m indoors. Paulino, Sydney, Naser, etc just wont run it. It also sucks that I didn't mention Femke here because she doesn't run the 400m outdoors much. She should be running 48 seconds for sure if she ran it at a few more meets during the outdoor season.

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      As a whole? I dont think so but I would have to go back through history. Maybe in recent times it was, but I think 2008 was really good with a bunch of world records and Olympic records. 1996 was also really good. Historically, 1968 was crazy and probably much better, but that was in Mexico City with altitude so hard to do a direct comparison. What do you think?

    • @Track4all
      @Track4all 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @TheFinalLeg Yes, as a whole. Go back and check the time and look at the events and races. You talked about the women's 400m but what the men's 100m finals, 9.91 gets you 8th place.

      @TheFinalLeg  6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Track4all Yea I think there are individual races that were better, but wholistically, Im not sure 2024 was the best. For example, in 1968, there were 14 world records broken between the men and the women. That's unheard of. But your right that individually, I think 2024 had the best race in the men's 100m, men's 400m and women's 400m dashes. But then the field events didnt see very crazy marks outside of mondao. So not sure, its a good discussion to have!
