    Very excited to see where this game goes! Lots of cool concepts and callbacks to RPGs of yesteryear and an intriguing setting. It needs some work still, but I will be keeping my eye on it.

      The name of the province in the Karu language is Aruden, Ardenfall is a bastardization of the name by the Sand Elves, who are kind of the empirical force in the game.

    Loved watching the play through, great witty commentary and sensible deductions on the game! Instant sub!
    Appreciate showcasing our passion project! tons of feedback are noted. We are hard at work on an Early Access (TBA) which will be much more polished with tons more content!

    I'm downloading the demo as I type this. I'll give it a try on Saturday and see how I get on with it.
    I'm not sold on the graphics, but they do have a Torchlight 2 sort of feel.
    And that starting area is straight out of Daggerfall.

    Was glad to catch some of this live. Wish I could have stuck around. I'll jump in next time for sure. Was dope being able to interact with the silly coffee dude 😂

    Not a fan of Cell Shading graphics. I know that this is just personal taste, and there are notable exceptions.
    For example, I think that Journey is a stunning game. But I probably will never play a Legend of Zelda game. Sounds a bit contradictory, but it's just personal taste.
    But I completely appreciate that sometimes choices such as this are the result of development limitations, and I don't think that it's fair to throw shade at a game due to sacrifices based on limited resources of a small, but passionate dev team.
    But regarding the mechanics of the game, I think that they have done an incredible job. The combat is far more refined than any BGS game.
    The skills even have a tiny bit more depth than Morrowind, which was the last TES game with any depth. The movement looks really smooth. And sacrificing graphics allows for more computing resources to be devoted to the actual gameplay.
    AND, I hope, though Coffee hasn't looked as far as I can tell, that there is an option to turn off Quest Markers. If not, I'd recommend adding this feature...

    At 32:00, you should consult your game settings - I have no idea, but you may have the option to turn off Quest Markers.
    Again, IDK, but I have a suspicion that you can...

    you cant pickup plants, you cant pickup the lantern, you cant pickup the shovel, you cant loot absolutely everything that you see on enemies corpses.. just because there is a mushroom tree and a dark elf rip off race does not make it morrowind

      @@iRemainNameless man, we should build a community to make an ACTUAL morrowind style remake.
      All these people just see any random RPG and say “oh it’s morrowind style!” And then you play it and you can’t even pickup the fork off the table.

    • @zrobotics
      @zrobotics ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@hungariannerd8445 I mean, have you played starfield? being able to pick up absolutely everything isn't that great if there isn't anything else to do in the game
      That said, this does look like a pretty bare-bones ripoff that just takes a few themes from morrowind with not much else behind it.

    • @jarridkamphenkel2117
      @jarridkamphenkel2117 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You actually can loot everything off enemy corpses and pick most plants haha
      But yeah, not everything is a physics object like in creation engine.

      You can pick up plants, and you can loot stuff off corpses. Picking up everything is overated anyways
      What are you honestly gonna do with a fork and a shovel in a first person rpg anyways ?

      @thecoffeeman1  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. It needs work, combat is the most glaringly obvious area, but I do look at it with a lot of grace since it is still pre-early access. Still cool to see a modern developer take some queues from the Morrowind design.

  • @MaMastoast
    @MaMastoast ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I appreciate the effort, but there is a long way to Morrowinds quality.
    As a 3d artist, its fairly obvious to me that they have chosen this artstyle to compensate for a lack of people with with proper 3D art experience, something that is also clear from the quality of their animations and designs. I respect that choice, and im not trying to be mean, but its telling me that there arent necessary people behind this project to truly make the world immersive and detailed.

      @jarridkamphenkel2117 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It’s actually due to the number of modelers we have - one. We’d have to make the world about 10 times smaller if we raised the fidelity and textured. 😅

      As someone who is a writer on both those games, Ardenfall will be out much sooner, and WR is more of a Daggerfall successor. Either way, thanks for the support!

    I don’t like how this looks, how this feels, or the fact that it thinks it can blatantly ripoff the Elder Scrolls while trying everything to ignore that it’s doing this. Just being honest!
    Calling it a “spiritual successor to Morrowind” is an insane statement, as well, and you should be really careful using buzzwords like this.

    • @jarridkamphenkel2117
      @jarridkamphenkel2117 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No one at Spellcast has ever called it a spiritual successor to Morrowind. Just for the record. It's definitely a huge inspiration, but no one at the studio has ever called it that.

      @sacredxgeometry ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jarridarridkamphenkel2117 Thanks for hopping into the comments, not only here but on the others as well, to update on the game! Really cool to see a team member active in the community, even on a video this small.
      I have trimmed that statement out of the beginning of the video. I was trying to convey exactly the above, that the game has taken some heavy inspiration from TES 3, but realize the way I said it at the start may set an unfair expectation. Change was done directly via the YT editor so will take some time to appear versus when I'm posting this.
      Wishing you and the team at Spellcast the best on the remaining development! Will certainly be taking another look whenever it hits the next stage.
