I went to store this week and had the best conversation with one of the cashiers. She worked at a nursing home during you know what. The staff threw away everything in the library, they took the mailboxes out of the residents rooms and took and opened their mail. The residents were completely cut off from family and each other. She quit after two weeks because residents were constantly crying from isolation after just two weeks. We must not let this happen again. If you can bring family home or help them with independence, please pray about doing so. If you have neighbors that are independent, but need a little help, please take time to check on them, bake them some bread or offer to run errands. As I got the notification for this video, I was reading an article in the WSJ about how “rosy” the economy is. I’m not an economist but I did take economics in college, and the economy isn’t that rosy. The benchmarks they used can be easily explained using common sense, but they won’t tell you that. Stock up and prepare now, fill your pantry, fill your freezers. That’s your best hedge against inflation, it’s going to be bumpy and the road will get rougher but we will make it through this. I have a full sized fireplace with a full "heatelater" insert. I have 2 squirrel cage fans that pull air over the manifold and insert the duct directly into the central heat & air intake. Lost power 6 days once and ran both fans off a little 2000 generator and heated the house during below freezing temperatures. We cooked over fire, stayed warm and had a great time as a family using wood. Please don't tell Joe Biden we did this, he will blame the next hurricane on the climate change we have caused by burning wood.

Patra, just wanted to share something with you. For people that burn pine. Or any wood for that matter. And old lady in our community told me years ago. That she put her potato peels in the wood stove and it kept creosote from building up. I know that she and her husband lived in the same place many years. They decided to have their chimney cleaned. The man that cleaned it couldn't believe how clean it was. He asked them. When was the last time it was cleaned. They told him never. WHAT, she told him about the potato peels. He was amazed. Anyway this is what I was told. Ask some of the old timers and see if they have ever heard of that. Love you channel. Thanks sharing with us. God bless
You guys are going into autumn. Collect those acorns. Spring has sprung in Cape Town...sort of...some warm, some chilly, some whet days. Had a really cold winter (for us), looking forward to summer.🌻🌞🐝🏖️🌊🍦
Thank you. We (misses/me) heated our NH home with a wood stove for over 30 years. It warmed us. We used it to cook on, dry our clothes (on racks), kept a kettle going on it and often sat reading near it. We maintained a 3 to 4 year supply, mostly from our wood lot. In NH you can purchase a permit to harvest cord wood on Nat'l Forest land, buy truck loads of log length from loggers, get some free stuff from the power line clearing, buy from folks who sell it. We even got free wood from storm cleanup. We miss it.
I live in NH and I am so thankful for our woodstove. It's in the basement but keeps the main living area of our ranch toasty. I can cook on it with my cast iron when I want or need to. It was a lifesaver when an ice storm in Dec '08 took out power for 10 days!

PHX AZ. Gas last month was $3.55 and yesterday I paid $4.59. Last year I started collecting recipes like 2 ingredient biscuits, 2 ingredient cakes and others like that. Getting food with less ingredients is cheaper and helps my pantry last longer. Prepping and praying. 💕
I was working full time and pregnant with our first child when Carter was President and I can remember paying 12.5% interest on our mortgage payment!😳 Wow! Yes, we all should be preparing for the next few years. Inflation isn’t going away; not with the way our government is handling things.😘❤🙏🏻✨
Besides trying to be frugal and pull back on certain things what we eat, I personally am trying to watch my portions, for the sake of trying to lose weight but also stretching the meals out as well. Like you said, Patara, do it now "while the wood is green", instead of waiting until we're in a situation where we must cut back just to make sure we have enough. I've been prepping for a while now, and praise God, I'll be ok; it's the darn oil heat I'm worried about once again this winter (I live in SW PA). My landlord was hoping to get it switched out, but because of other things happening that he had to fix here and there, we're all stuck with most likely paying huge bills again 3-4x between Oct-April. Thank you for all you do to keep us sharp and ready for whatever else comes down the pike! 🥰🥰
I didn’t live through the Great Depression, but I was raised by my granny born in 1901, so we lived as though it was still the depression. Granny didn’t know how to do it any other way. I thank the good Lord for that upbringing. It taught me how to pray, plan, and above all be prepared for anything. She loved to say, pray for the best, but prepare for the worst! Thank you, Patara 🥰
I live in a small town and the businesses started doing challenges to other businesses filling the blessing boxes through out the town so each week they fill each one ❤
Love, Love, Love the 'Blessings Challenge' that your small town is doing each week. Kindness and generosity and 'blessings' in every gesture! Sending love your way and all the best to everyone♥♥♥
God works in mysterious ways. My 95 yr old mother died right before the the Big C farce. She was in assisted living. While saddened at our loss, we were so grateful that she didn’t have to go through any of the BS. My heart breaks for all of our elders that will have to going through this again. Don’t forget to stock up on books and non perishable items for your older family members on a fixed income. That includes pet food for any of their pets, they play an important part in an elder’s life.
Today our whole family which includes my husband , myself, 2 sons, daughter-in-law, and 4 grandkiddos picked apples at my daughter-in-law 's Dad's house. Wonderful apples to make all kinds of great stuff! It didn't cost us anything and we created wonderful memories! Busy busy busy!
Praying and getting into God's word each day. Cleaning out one cabinet at a time all the while making sure I find something from the garden to preserve while it is still available. See you on the next one.
A huge festival that’s been going for 40 years up here in PA said they weren’t opening this year, just two weeks prior to opening. Reason: not enough employees. Restaurants are BEGGING for people to work. On the flip side, corporations are hiring and I know first hand, people apply and never hear back. They’re “creating” jobs they never intend to fill. All to fudge numbers.
Shelling butter beans, water bath canning homemade pasta sauce and listening to you. We are asking prayers that we can get our small home finished. We are doing all the construction ourselves so we can have no mortgage. I have essentially been “without a permanent home “ for almost 18 months now and living with either family or in our RV.
Dehydrated tomatoes overnight. Picked green beans. Going in a few weeks to an Amish area to stock up on staples to put back. Working slowly but surely. It's all we can do! ❤
We were married in 1980….weeks worth of groceries for 2 was $40….and we cooked meals at home…thank you Patera for your honesty and speaking the truth! Love and prayers to all your viewers❤ and anyone still hiding from the truth.
Went to the store today for just a few items. $65 for sandwich ham, bagels, cream cheese, mayonnaise, vinegar, and a red onion. We also bought some Sparkling Ice drinks. The vinegar and onion are for pickled eggs, they'll keep 4 or 5 months in the fridge and we have plenty. The mayo was to make egg salad out of the eggs where the yolks were to close to the edge so I couldn't pickle them. The mayo is $9! It's going to get worse folks, buy extra when it's on sale and put it away. And can like your life depends on it, because it does!❤❤❤
@@whatsittoyou1984 looking up recipes right now lol! I have oil in my preps and eggs in the coop! We didn't put in a garden this year because we are going to buy a larger property soon and wanted our yard to stay nice for the new buyers but I already have my seeds for next year! We won't be buying much from the store after this year.
That is so wonderful!!! I am peeling apples as I watch Patara. Got up to get a cup of coffee and read the comments. I got a 5 gal bucket of pears to do soon.
We're fortunate to have access to free kiln dried lumber. My hubby just got both a trailer and pickup truck full. It burns very well and heats our little home in no time.
Picked up some replacement handles for garden rakes, shovels, axe and wheelbarrow today at a flea market and decided to buy three more boxes of Roma tomatoes to can more spaghetti sauce.
I watch you all the time, and my hubby and I are in Lenoir City this weekend to visit two widow ladies we just adore and hubby said, “Are you going to call Patara and ask her and James to lunch?” LOL he feels you are part of the family too. We live in So IN and learn everything we know about prepping from you! Love ya and keep up the good work!
A lady in our town, gave us 3 shallow case bottoms (like from the grocery store) of tomatoes and a box of cucumbers yesterday. She said she had filled all her jars, and was done canning. They don't do "extra" stocking or canning. While I am so very thankful, I sat outside just thinking I cannot understand why she didn't can it all. Its so obvious we are going to need as much as we can lay our hands on. I'm canning every single thing in sight ... even if its one jar of something. I'm sure there are at least 7-8 qts worth of tomatoes there. Pickles will be next.
Just a suggestion on getting some free firewood. If storms go through ask the tree service guys if they can drop some wood into your yard. I was able to score some free wood. But we have to cut it and split it ourselves.
the cat tails in the background😂 love you patera. I wish I had the money to convert my fireplace into a wood stove. just gonna keep working hard and trying to save. yall, you can prep...2 cans here...there...you CAN do it😂
I am so blessed to have wonderful neighbors, I know I brag all the time. My family has had a woodstove since the 1960s ice storm. We, children were sent to our Aunt and Uncle's. Mom and Dad put in a woodstove, I've inherited the house and the stove. One neighbor gave me a cord of wood last summer. One neighbor has had trees cut. He cut and split a bunch for me. One neighbor "sold" me some last yr, way to cheap. Loans the rest of us his splitter! I also bought 2 cords earlier this spring. I think I will be set with what I have for this yr and what was left from last yr. Along with the maple tree that landed on the house. Neighbor cut it off for me. They know how much I appreciate them. The one man is a bachelor so when I make a big pot of something, I always share. There are some really good people in the Adirondack Mountain Region of New York State.
Working on elderberries this week end. New skills being learned at 70 years old. Picked more tomatoes. A drive to the discount grocery this morning. Saturdays are 10% off frozen foods.
Patara's face @ 11:39 Click stop. Your eyes are the windows to your soul. Mouth wide open, and a raised hand! The light outshines the dark. Keep shining brightly!
wow youve even got a ton a books on all this.. james is so lucky to have such a handy and bubbly little cutie like you! godbless yall thanks for your great show!
Our woodstove saved us during the 2008 ice storm we had in the middle of Massachusetts. Most people went to hotels but we stayed in our home. We heated and cooked on it for the 8 days we were without electricity. We even boiled water for bathing etc also. Glad we did because alot of people who didn't have that heat source had frozen and broken pipes -major expense. We measured the temp in the house and hubby kept it at 55 degrees.
Just came home from grocery shopping 😮 Prices there, have certainly NOT come down. Aldi is still pretty much the most inexpensive option. And Aldi prices are a lot higher than they were in 2021.
Thank you for your message and reminders Patara! Its a busy, busy season here on the homestead. Just started up lessons for our homeschool year on top of preserving our 1/3 acre garden, milking the cow, feeding and moving the livestock. Cooked down a 5 gallon pot of spaghetti sauce today while my kids harvested 3 bushels of sweet corn after their homeschool lessons. Staying up late tonight to get all of the corn into the freezer. Tomorrow we start again making cheese, butter, canning spaghetti sauce, putting all the canning jars on the shelves. Little by little every day. Its a hustle before the snow flies!
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. They are really helping me to stay motivated to keep going. One suggestion for your viewers. Find one like minded person with whom you are committed to support to keep doing the next thing. My daughter and I have been practicing this for some time now. No guilt... prayer and encouragement for each step. It is not a sprint; it is a marathon. Just do the next thing.
Used only wood last year for our 3,000sqft house even when it got down to -20F. Electricity bill was less than $150. Wood is from trees that fell during the year, harvested the logs, cut them down, season the wood. It's not easy work for sure, but rewarding, like many other chores on the farm. Preach on lady!! Love y'all.
:) My daughter and I just went to McKay's on Thr! Love that place! Love you Patara for taking time to share parts of your daily life and everyday lessons we all need to hear, learn, and share. Sending a hug and a smile :) from central TN.
We had the opportunity to practice living off the grid during Idalia, it was actually a blessing in disguise, as we could see our weak spots and things we needed to do differently, and things (like another generator) that we need to get yet. I also need to get busy canning meat from our freezers! Luckily we didn't lose any, THIS time.
My dad brought slabs (the outer part of the trees ) every year from a saw mill. 3 big bundles was always more than enough for the year. He only heated with wood. So his winter bill was only $75.
There is no higher high than being able to help someone. I've always said this, because it's true. It's such a wonderful feeling. Please, help those less fortunate than you are.
I live in a rural area in southeast Kentucky and we are noticing a lot of homeless people living in the woods and coming onto private property. We are finding out that counties are receiving grants in exchange for bringing these people here. They have backpacks and government given boots on. Our food banks have said they are not from here, definitely a different accent from ours. I’ve never had to lock my door at night and it breaks my heart to have to start 😞
I could not have said it better Patara regarding job numbers. I mentioned in one of your recent videos my experience of trying to have a prescription filled at CVS where I live. Well, I was in the same CVS Thursday and talked with the manager. I said, "Mam, " if things don't improve here I am going to move my business Walgreens. She said, "People call me wanting a job and I refer them to the application on line." She said, "Those people who apply don't score high enough on the questions they must address." I asked, "Are the questions have a scenario with a customer and how you would handle it?" She said, "Yes, exactly," I replied, "I believe the problem lies with what schools are not teaching critical thinking skills or just downright common sense. They believe that alll answers are on their iPhone." The lady said, "Absolutely." Being a retired educator, it breaks my heart to learn what these schools are teaching with critical race theory and allowing these horrific transgender books. No-one is helping the homeless. The Blessing Boxes here are the same Patara. As soon as they are filled up, they get empty shortly thereafter. Thank you for your awesome video and message.
To prepare for this coming winter, I have stocked up on pellets for the pellet stove, and I bought another blanket. I also bought batteries for my flashlights and the smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. Of course I am still buying and stocking food - I think I am pretty well set for provisions. Thanks for always urging us onward.
We stacked two loads of firewood that has been seasoning since last year, and cut and chopped more wood to start seasoning for next year. We are finally ahead on something!!!
Went to the amish community near me Friday. Purchased vegetables at the auction and stocked up at dent store and bulk store. Canned salsa and spaghetti sauce yesterday. But a bunch of tomatoes and rhubarb in freezer. Next peaches and more sauce then tomato juice.
Love your thinking !!!!!!........... Im lucky enough to live in an area of hardwood mills and tree services , I get alot of limb drop offs and free falls of oak ...ash....birch...apple ....cherry ans walnut and Im very thankful for each piece of it!!.....our home was set up with forced hot air oil heat and its pricey up here in the northeast.... we added our wood stove to sublet the heat and it saved us over 1200.00 in last year heating season alone......... it can get cold here with below zero temps that can go a week at a time!.... once we lost power for 2 weeks and it was below zero for a week of that and we were warm and toasty !!!......... back ups and alternative methods are wise decisions
Was at Costco this afternoon, they were almost wiped clean of paper towels and toilet paper!!! No pun intended. I'm going back during the week to see if they will be restocked ( thankfully I'm prepared, but other family is just now waking up,).
I have had wood heat over the last 48 years sometimes my only source sometimes backup. I appreciate your channel very much I am single and 70 so I pay a firewood provider and I always pay him extra to take his wife out to dinner as I tell him and he has always told me when I call he has me at the top of his list. He always brings me dry hardwood that is split for my stove size. I trust my supplier never have a chimney problem. If you are able please have a 2 year supply at home.
Keep on Trucking Lady Patara, wise beyond your years. I am trying my hand at canning this month for 1st time. Maybe an old dog can learn a new trick out here in the NC woods. Never burn pine except in a campfire is my motto. I admit I love my window a/c unit. But my solar cells won't do it, consider it a waste of DC battery power. Food Prices have got stupid expensive. I saw that if you are not making north of 90k a year, you are worst off than they were in the Great Depression because of Inflation. Research it. Practice your skill sets that YOU have. On the Homeless, not all are bad, but. Eyes Open - No Fear. Protect Your Freedoms and Your Garden / Resources. Blessing upon You.
I just started canning last year (thank you Patara for the inspiration and lessons!) and thought the amount of food I did can would last me a year. Total newbie mistake. I had to rely on canned food since my new home did not have a refrigerator and it took a while to get one. I also lost my job during that time so relied on canned food to save on groceries. What I thought would last a year is almost gone. Lesson learned..,,,can more than you think you need,
It's just me and my 91 yo mom! I keep my eye on Aldi sale ads! I bought a package of 5 big sausages for $2.99, and cooked all 5 up and frozen them! Thawed one out, sliced and cooked them in with scrambled eggs! We had that for dinner with toast! Another one in with frying some taters and we had that with a can of vegetables! Stretching our meat out as much as we can!
If you leave the fans on your furnace running, turn on your gas fireplace, and turn your furnace off the blowers will circulate the the warm air from your gas fireplace. That’s a tip from our furnace guy, which really helps with the bill, as it costs almost nothing (compared to the furnace), to run your fireplace.
Just finishing 16 pints of ground beef and will be canning chicken liver next. Have a great evening! Canning during the night time hours while it is cooler. Peace
I would give anything to have my old wood stove again. Not allowed under HOA rules here in my part of TX. Possible harsh, cold winter coming. No backup heat source. I miss my wood…
Love my wood heat.. wouldn't be without it here in New England...been burning wood for 40+ yrs.. I baked some sour dough bread today, and I have some sour kraut fermenting... I have lots of books, including the lost book of herbal remedies.. nice to be prepared as much as possible.

I paid 18٪ interest on my first home during Carter. I was fresh out of nursing school being paid $5.35 /hr.
The first of many life lessons...
How did we ever do it? I guess we cut back on everything and never splurged!@@karingarrett7862
Everybody, pray for nation. America has lost her way.
I have gas heater but worried it won't be there or be expensive so I bought a Mr. Heater and propane bottles at Walmart.
6 cord down, 4 more to go here. Then the next 10 arrive next week. Labor day here means work.
That’s so encouraging 💕🇨🇦
I put up rice, sugar, and wheat berries in Mylar bags today. We’ve also been cleaning out and organizing our second floor.
Do the mylar bags keep the rice fresh? I've been trying to figure the best way to save a large amount of rice without it going stale.
So true I lived through the Carter years too and this doesn't even compare!!!
And can like your life depends on it, because it does!❤❤❤
Making mayo with farm eggs and healthy oils is a small act of rebellion my love 😮
@@brendahoffer5534 mayo rebels unite!!! Blenders, ho! :)
A lot of woodworkers are being let go, lay’d off in North Carolina.
@@fancythat5136 that's so sad. I'm from North Topsail :(
As a cabinetmaker I have all the wood to heat I can use! It’s always a warm winter!
Massive canning weekend for me. All stuff i got from my garden. Which is awesome because I've never gotten enough out of a garden to can before
That’s awesome! Very exciting I bet💕🇨🇦
Replacement handles … I didn’t think of that! Thank you!
Yes I have been stocking up on supplies as quickly as possible
I bought “The Tightwad Gazette” and can’t wait to read it!!!
I was just fixin to head to bed when this came up. We got free pallets and built our fence for our chicken run. Hardware cloth over it and above it.
I was blessed by my Gramma and mom to learn Depression era cooking. Both lived through it, my mom was the oldest so she grew up fast.
the cat tails in the background😂 love you patera. I wish I had the money to convert my fireplace into a wood stove. just gonna keep working hard and trying to save. yall, you can prep...2 cans here...there...you CAN do it😂
We have a Better than Ben's insert. I cook on it like a wood stove.
Made a cardboard box oven and do all my baking in it.
I've been moving as fast as I can It's really satisfying to know I got a couple of things less to worry about
I am so blessed to have wonderful neighbors, I know I brag all the time.

I remember that ice storm. We were cold. I ha e since gotten a wood stove because of that. It will only heat my upstairs but we will be warm.
Finally got all my ingredients to make my vegetable soup tomorrow. And got six cans of campbells chicken noodle soup for .99 a can.
Just came home from grocery shopping 😮
Prices there, have certainly NOT come down. Aldi is still pretty much the most inexpensive option. And Aldi prices are a lot higher than they were in 2021.
Aldi had ground beef on sale for 1.99 this week.
In my area we tie winter hats and gloves to street signs etc. for the homeless.
I had sticker shock Friday at Walmart here in SE Kansas. 10 pounds of russet potatoes were $12.98!! Glad I planted some this year.
Oliver Anthony's words are speaking so true ❤️🇺🇸❤️
Thank you for talking about blessing boxes in the past. I found one in my town and I look for sales and help fill the box. Its usually empty.
Worked out, cut grass and canned today.
We always use 1/2 of the amount of sugar in a recipe for cookies except meringue cookies.
I've been living in the same house for almost sixty years
Prayers for all of us 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Me too!🙏
I could not have said it better Patara regarding job numbers.
I have been doing the things after my daily stuff. I am tired but very happy with the slow progress. Thank you. It is a great feeling.
Slow and steady, we’ve got this
Was at Costco this afternoon, they were almost wiped clean of paper towels and toilet paper!!! No pun intended.
I'm going back during the week to see if they will be restocked ( thankfully I'm prepared, but other family is just now waking up,).
I love my dishwasher and washing machine, too…YES! Praise HIS Holy Name!❤ 🕊️ ✝️
Thank you for being you
Your a gift from God
Wish I would have met you 45 years ago. You tell James he’s a lucky man. I hope he it. God loves you.
Saw mill wood has saved us more than once, when we mis-calculated for our first few winters here
Keep on Trucking Lady Patara, wise beyond your years.
Lesson learned..,,,can more than you think you need,
Your kitty-cat's tale is soooo cute walking back & forth behind you!!
You’ve grown a tail, lol. Love the kitties.
I appreciate you & love you! You are always encouraging - very bold & honest but encouraging. Have a blessed weekend. Laboring together!
Thank you so much!
Those background tails 😂❤️
So wise....test things out now. Gotcha.
Peddling as fast as I can👍 prepping for fall planting...
I'm right there with you, worked on it today!!!
I can do the same thing with a wood stove, correct?
Just finishing 16 pints of ground beef and will be canning chicken liver next. Have a great evening! Canning during the night time hours while it is cooler. Peace
Please guide me in canning chicken livers. Tia.
I hope you know that your videos fill my heart. I talk to my husband about you and call you my friend 😂 bless you and your family!!
I would give anything to have my old wood stove again. Not allowed under HOA rules here in my part of TX. Possible harsh, cold winter coming. No backup heat source. I miss my wood…
I always enjoy your honesty. Iget a little extra every month.
Love my wood heat.. wouldn't be without it here in New England...been burning wood for 40+ yrs.. I baked some sour dough bread today, and I have some sour kraut fermenting... I have lots of books, including the lost book of herbal remedies.. nice to be prepared as much as possible.
Goober smoocher!!! I love it! Gonna have to remember that one! 👍 We did the same thing with our wood this year too! Great bargain! Love you Patara!💖
